How To Be A Failure

For centuries, leaders have been trying to teach how to be a success. I decided to show you what leads to failure so that maybe, just maybe, you will stop doing that and change! Unsuccessful people, failures, do things differently than people who are successful.

They think crappy thoughts. Do you think negative; think like a loser? Don’t believe you can. Excuse, whine, accuse, blame others and the world around you for your situation. Crappy thoughts lead to crappy feelings. You feel bad then think more crappy thoughts.

It is a cycle. Crappy feelings don’t make you feel like doing anything. You are unmotivated so you take no constructive actions. No actions leads to no results or bad results. Bad results lead to more crappy thoughts and more crappy feelings and doing even less. It’s a cycle.

What Consumes Your Mind Controls Your Life

Bad thoughts lead to bad feelings, lead to bad actions, lead to bad results, lead to bad thoughts. The cycle perpetuates itself. IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT? If the answer is ‘no’ then you must start by changing your thinking. That IS the very FIRST step.

If you want your life to change you must change things in your life. You cannot continue doing the same things repeatedly and expect it to be different. That is crappy thinking. Your habits of thought, feeling and action define you. Your reality is created by you.

If you want to change, you change your thinking. Positive thoughts lead to positive feelings, which lead to positive actions, which lead to positive results. The cycle perpetuates itself. You have a choice. You have a decision to make each moment. Which cycle do you prefer?

You Become What You Think About Most Of The Time

Which one is your present reality? If it isn’t what you want decide to change it today. Begin reading and listening to positive, inspiring, motivational material. Recite affirmations. Visualize. Take an active approach to changing your thoughts. Take charge of your thinking.

Shift from the negative. Don’t repeat negative thoughts out loud. Stop telling stories to family and friends how things suck. Begin to think differently. Start thinking and saying, ‘I am not sure, yet, how it is going to work out but it will all work out for the best.’ It will!

DO things that make you feel good. Get a massage. Go for a walk, a swim, a movie. Enjoy a nice meal. HANG OUT with positive, inspiring, motivating, encouraging people. Take a seminar or workshop. Express your gratitude. All of this makes a difference.

What You Say Is What You Get – Change Your Self Talk And Story

If you keep doing what you always have you will continue to create what you already have. If it isn’t what you want that is a shame. There is no one who is doing it to you, but you. Right now you can change that. Start today. Be grateful! You can. Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes

Why Pain May Persist: What To Do About It

“Some of you know I have been healing from nerve pain in my back and legs. A friend stated that it seemed like a long time to be dealing with this injury and wondered if I shouldn’t choose a quicker option, such as surgery. I answered him this way.

I had wanted to get back in better shape for some time. Still, I put it off. I’d work on the computer instead of exercising or going to the gym. It was convenient, easier, less disruptive to just continue than to add more exercise in. I put it off for quite some time.

I got injured. The pain is tremendous. The only way out is through. My chiropractor said, ‘you need to get your back, back in shape’. I understood that. It was clear. Yes, I must. AND it hurts!! It meant pushing through discomfort. It mean accepting the hurt.

First Step Toward Change Awareness Second Step Is Acceptance

I have written about this in previous blog posts. The point I want to make today is, having this pain persist and having to work at feeling better, gives me the time needed to establish new routines and habit. If the pain went away immediately, I might not continue.

If it were miraculously resolved I might very well have gone back to the old, routine of working, instead of exercising. The continuation of pain is motivation to get better. Now daily, I see the chiropractor, I do PT in the pool and I walk around the block frequently.

It has been 3 almost 4 weeks now. I am into the habit of taking better care of myself again. I am grateful for this experience and for the duration of the pain. It is truly a blessing even if it seems not to be, or that it hurts. The pain is doing its job. It is awesome!

Time Doesn’t Heal Everything – Acceptance Will Heal Everything

I am proactive about my health again. Eventually the pain will subside. By then, I will have grow accustomed to working out. I do actually look forward to it now, each day, as I did when I was quite fit. I am building good habits, again, and I am pleased about that.

Pain is a signal and a means for me accomplishing some important work on myself. Does the pain know this? Is it ordained by anyone or anything? I haven’t a clue. It may be only a useful reframe, but useful it is. Perception is everything. It really is!

If I state the pain persists to get me off my ass so I take an active role in being in better shape, so be it. It works for me. It truly does, in that I do get relief when I do the PT. So the pain will be around for as long as necessary. Then no longer. All is good. It IS as it is!

Whatever The Present Moment Is – Act As If You Had Chosen It

What we think and how we think about things is important. As I began to celebrate the pain, and consider it a blessing, it began to change and diminish. Sadly, many people don’t consider the benefit or value of pain physical or emotional. We try to avoid it.

Embracing it is a whole new freedom. Things do shift. It allows for much new insight and evolution. While I don’t wish this on anyone I can say, learn to be grateful, it makes a difference. Acceptance moves you through it quicker than resistance. It is all perfect.

It is what it is. I also focus on where, what part of my body feels the best. Which sensations do I enjoy the most? I focus on the water, how wonderful that feels. I emphasize the movements I can make easily. I shift from what hurts to what feels great. It is about focus.

Work With It Not Against It – What You Resist Persists – Accept

So the pain serves many useful purposes. I get to workout and control my attention to things. I focus on the good feelings not the bad ones. Anyone can do this. Anyone can learn. The more we focus on what we want and the good stuff, the more we get back.

So celebrate and enjoy! Find all the good, groovy, cool stuff to marvel in. Find the silver linings. Get to the gold beneath all the dirt. When digging for gold you look for the gold you don’t care about the dirt. Get it? Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes

The Universe Is Always On Your Side: Are You On Your Side?

“Imagine a game, similar to what we played as children. Let’s play  hide and seek. Only in this version, you hide yourself. You take on a disguise and then you forget that is what you did. You have amnesia for who you actually are. You only remember the disguised persona.

Think of it this way. You are the ocean. You pretend you are a droplet of ocean. Then you forget you are the ocean. You only think you are the droplet. Separate from the ocean. Limited by who you are and what you can do. You forget you are the powerful ocean. Imagine!

Yet, that is what many ancient mystics and philosophers allege. We are source, playing a game with ourself. We hide that we are source so we can find ourself once again, sometime. We make the game challenging so we have fun discovering who we truly are.

The Universe Is On Your Side – Always Working In Your Favor

If true, this means that everything that happens is for a reason. Everything is designed to wake us up to who we actually are underneath the disguise of self. This means, everything, no matter what it is, IS a blessing. It’s helpful to us even when it doesn’t seem it.

If you can find within yourself a way to be happy and contented, to feel grateful, no matter what is occurring around you, then you are becoming free and beginning to be able to design your own life. You aren’t the victim of any people, events, or circumstance. Get that?

You no longer are the victim! Whatever life hurls at you, you can handle. You are bigger than any obstacles. You can go with the flow. You adjust and continue. You find or create a way. You don’t blame, or excuse or whine, you celebrate and live joyously and victoriously.

Be Mindful Your Self Talk Is A Conversation With The Universe 

I say, recognize who you are. Wake up. Learn from everything that happens to you in every moment of the day. You always have choice points. You can react from prior conditioning or you can learn to respond from awareness. You choose which you prefer to live by.

Make your life the life you want by appreciating everything you have, don’t have and all that happens to you. Imagine that it is the Universe’s way of getting your attention so that you delight more, find the good more, and feel grateful more often. When you do this, you are able to celebrate everything. Learn From Pain It Teaches You

“There are many forms of pain and discomfort; Mental or psychic; Emotional; Physical and Spiritual . Through the ages people have questioned whether or not there is an advantage to pain. What is the purpose? We are told it is a way to stop and care for ourselves.

Still, we don’t want it. We do anything to avoid it or escape from it. I can’t tell you what to do about your pain or what it means to you or for you. It is highly individual. I am not qualified to provide medical advice. I can share what I have discovered for myself.

This may be meaningful for you. I don’t like pain anymore than the next person. I’ve learned more on how to welcome it and embrace it. I have learned how to utilize it and go through it. What I discovered, and continue to, is that pain is a signal and a great teacher.

If Everything Were Perfect You Would Never Learn Anything

Pain lets us know there is something amiss in our body, mind, heart and spirit. It signals us so we can address whatever is not right. We get that, most of us do, anyway, when it comes to physical pain. Most of us miss it when it is mental, emotional or spiritual pain.

These forms of pain show up in many ways; regret, anguish, negative thinking, laziness or procrastination, apathy, melancholy, depression, anxiety, anger, loneliness and more. These seem harder to identify as signals but they are signals, none the less.

People, myself included, give in or wallow in these forms of pain. We want out. We want to escape but we accept and live with it. Instead of recognizing these signals that a change is needed or that there is a lesson for us, we succumb to the pain as if there’ s no alternative.

If You Are Not Learning And Changing You Are Not Growing

There is an alternative. Stop. Breathe. Shift your thinking. Focus on what you want, not on what you don’t want. It isn’t always easy but it gets easier the more you do it. You train yourself to move away from what you don’t want and towards what you do want. It IS training!

You train yourself to act instead of giving in. It is a conditioning. You  replace an old habit with a new productive supportive one. You learn to recognize the less than glorious signals, for what they are and, then stop, breathe and shift your thinking to what it is you want.

When your thinking shifts your feelings can follow. Another way you can alter your feelings and thinking is through physical activity. Change your breathing, work in a garden, take a walk, sing, dance, meditate. Do something that changes your state for the better.

Learn To Listen In Silence To Your Inner Wisdom And Voice

Many people use drugs and alcohol to escape. You don’t need to do that. You can change your physiology, your activity level and shift your thinking and emotions without drugs. You can positively influence yourself to grow and evolve and transform wonderfully.

Another method is to embrace the pain. Stay with it and go through it. Ask what lessons and beliefs are hidden within? What is it trying to get you to learn? Some of use get the same events, circumstances, people, and pains in our life over and over. There is a message here.

What do you need to learn so you can become free of these repetitive patterns? Explore and discover. You can shift and manage the pain while asking the same questions and learn from it. Be still! Listen to your inner voice. You may have been loud for too long.

Be Still And Know – In Every Obstacle Is The Seed Of Opportunity

You have to become still because you haven’t listened to yourself. You’ll need to re-learn how to. When you accept and celebrate and are grateful for the lessons and the pain you may find yourself becoming free of them. As you learn, you let go of the old.

Gratitude and appreciation are so powerfully transformative! They open the doorways to vast treasures within yourself and without. Express your thankfulness for everything good and not so good. Feel blessed by everything that comes your way. Then you ARE free!

Accept. Let go. Be thankful. Stop. Breathe and shift. Move, dance, sing, Allow. Embrace. Explore. Reflect. Discover. Feel blessed. Express it. Journal it. State it. Declare it. Affirm It. Visualize it. Dream it, Imagine it. Celebrate it. Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes

Why You Keep Creating The Same Mess And How To Change It!

“Our outer world is determined by our inner filters. We respond from subconscious filters we adopted and developed, unconsciously, growing from infant into early childhood. These filters form the basis of our habitual thought and feeling habits. We think they are us.

Expanding thoughts from my last post on perception. They are not us but these filters determine what we notice, see and act on. They determine what we don’t notice, do not see and do not act on. Filters determine what we think is possible or not; what is ‘good or bad’.

These form the basis of our rules, evidence procedures, feelings, and actions. These become beliefs and values. Each moment our brains cycle through beliefs, values, memories, experiences,  associations and these filter are our connection with the outer world.

You Can Be Anything You Want If You Give Up The Belief You Can’t

So what is a filter? Think coffee filter. It lets certain things pass, water, while trapping the grounds. It works the same inside us. We notice or don’t based on our filters. That is why you can miss seeing your keys when they are right in front of you or even in your hand.

We are conditioned and habituated to these. We follow the same or similar ways of thinking, feeling and behaving every day. It’s as if we are our habits. We aren’t but we go to work the same way. We come home and do the same thing each day. We are routine.

We are routine in our relationships, our work, our passions, our hobbies, and our leisure. We are conditioned. Can we ever change our filters or our habits? Absolutely! It begins with awareness and dedication. We can begin to experience other ways to be. We can!

You Can Do Anything You Want If You Give Up That You Can’t

We can begin to examine our beliefs and whether they support us or not. If not, we can choose to begin to believe something more positive, productive and supportive. Don’t think right or wrong. Don’t think true or false. Think supportive or not supportive.

Does what you think, feel and do move you closer to who you want to be, what you want to do and have? OR Does it keep you where you are or move you further away? This is a useful way to begin to examine and become aware of what your filters are. Examine!

It is useful in discovering what may be holding you back. Habits are changed by deciding not to engage in the old ones. When you notice you are acting from habit, stop, breathe, and do something else that promotes what you want to promote. Replace the old with the new.

You Can Have  Anything You Want If You Give Up That You Can’t

Become aware when you think, feel and behave in less than glorious ways. From the moment you become aware, you have a choice point. You can make a new decision. That decision will determine whether or not you change what you are doing and change your life.

If you always do what you always have done you will always get what you always got. You will remain the same. To be different requires you change some things. No one else can do it for you. Only you can. AND YOU CAN! So it is up to. Add novelty to your life.

DO different things. Eat different foods. Go to new places. Learn new things.. Expand your horizons. Change things up. Every time you feel less than glorious or think negatively you encountered a belief or value, some filter that is old conditioning. Notice the feelings.

Whether You Think You Can Or Think You Can’t – You’re Right

Examine your beliefs. Do they serve you? If they don’t then doubt them. You don’t have to continue to believe them. Many people doubt they can do something they want to do. I say doubt that you can’t and then go ahead and do it. Be smart. Doubt limitations.

Be willing to not believe them, even though you have for so long. Let them go. Drop them. Be willing to try on a new and different belief. The old, chronic, negative, habitual conditioning  rises up automatically whenever you do new things to keep you the same.

Your beliefs and filters work to keep you the same. They keep you within a certain comfort zone even if that comfort zone is a painful one. It is what you are and do. It is your conditioning. The point is drop the old conditioning and choose new conditioning.

Whatever You Whisper To Yourself Has The Most Power

Gratitude and appreciation may be a new habit for you. Positive thinking and optimism may be new to you. Persistence and follow through may be new to you. Discover YOU are NOT your conditioning and habits. You only think you are. You are not!

When you discover you are not, you are free. Your conditioning masks who you really are. Trade it in for better conditioning. You aren’t your hand. You use your hand. The same is true of your habitual thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

When you trade your old conditioning for new conditioning everything can work better. Why? Because this time YOU choose it. YOU DECIDE IT! You are in charge. You choose what to believe and when. You create what you want. You are in charge. That makes the difference. Celebrate everything!”

What Can You Do When Someone Shocks Or Disappoints You?

“My recent blog was, what you can do if you shock or disappoint yourself? This one, examines what you can do if someone else, perhaps a loved one or friend, shocks or disappoints you. Guess what? What you do  is really not that much different.

Stop. Take a deep breath. Let go. Sit with it. I know there is a tendency to blame the other person. It is a normal part of our prior conditioning to examine and complain about their behavior. We want to put it on them. Stop. This is an old habit pattern.

It is part of your brain’s ability to look for what is wrong. It looks for matches in our experience and finds what is wrong. Just stop. It won’t be easy. Shift  away from blame and complaining to neutral. Take a deep breath. As long as you blame, you continue in the habit.

Accept What Is Let Go Of What Was Have Faith In What Will Be

In order to get free, explore what happens in you. What were you expecting? What did you hope and want?  This is an opportunity for you to stop reacting and learn how to respond instead. Obviously, there is some trigger, some anchor in you that went off.

Whatever the catalyst, you reacted. Wouldn’t it be much nicer if regardless of the stimulus, you didn’t suck into it? The other does whatever they do and you remain centered, the eye of the hurricane. Examine this instead. What do they do that is a reflection of you?

Their behavior is a mirror of some aspect of you. Something you can let go of and change. Don’t blame yourself. Attempt to be open, available and don’t judge. Don’t judge or label them, what they do, yourself or, what you do as bad or wrong. It just is what it is.

Learn To Accept People For Who The Are – Let Go Stop Judging

Get it? You don’t want to over analyze this, either. You want to examine why you might react as you do. Whatever you find, let it go. Imagine how you can be free and how you would prefer to behave positively in the future. How could you respond differently?

How could you act more productively? How might you be more loving; compassionate? How might you be non-plussed and remain balanced? These thoughts help you to create a more wonderful future. Focus on what you want, not on the issues you have or had.

“What Can You Do When You Shock Or Disappoint Yourself?

“What do you do when you shock or disappoint yourself? You plan for the best but somehow you behave the opposite. You argue when you try everything not to. You break a commitment. You hurt  a loved when and didn’t mean to. What to do? What can you do?

You stop. Take a deep breath. Let go and release. Do your best not to blame yourself or others. Don’t make excuses. Sit with it and reflect. You may not have an answer but somewhere there is some old conditioning rearing its head. It happens to us all. It really does.

Despite your best intentions and efforts you behaved counter to what you wanted to. You wanted a nice evening and it all went to hell. You hoped to enjoy the weekend but it became a disaster. It takes two to tango and you were party to it. What gives?

One’s Best Success Often Comes After One’s Worst Disaster

Some old habits die hard. Sometimes, crap happens. Life hands you lemons. That is just the way it is. I wouldn’t write too much into it. I would however, wonder what I might release to be different. I would really let go and just sit with it as much as possible without judging.

I wouldn’t discard it or be flippant in regard to it. I’d assume everything happens for a reason so that I can learn to be a better person. That somewhere I may have been harboring resentments, or issues, or ‘whatever’ that needed to come out. AND they did.

They may have come out when least expected. Bad timing, perhaps. What I am trying to get at is, crap happens. Don’t invest in it. Don’t judge or blame yourself or others. Don’t regret. Make corrections and apologies if you are able to. Don’t over analyze. Just be.

The Kite Rises Highest Against The Wind – Learn To Soar

It is what it is. What can you learn from it? How can you transform because of or in spite of it? How can you grow and evolve to be an even better person? Use it to learn how to be better now and in the future. There is no ultimate answer that I know of. It just is.

Find the blessing. Find the silver lining. That doesn’t mean you excuse your behavior if you were at fault, or if you did harm. It means learn, grow. Own up. Take 100% responsibility for your thoughts and actions. Don’t deny. Don’t ignore. But don’t wallow.

Don’t pity. Don’t berate. Don’t hate yourself. Forgive, love and accept that you are human and sometimes screw up. That’s what humans do. We are not perfect. We all make mistakes. Accept that you will continue to make mistakes, hopefully not the same ones.

There Is No Failure – Only Feedback – Don’t Beat Yourself Up

Mistakes are opportunities to get feedback, make corrections, adjust and improve. If you let someone down or violated their trust, if they allow you to make amends, then perhaps, you can. They may or may not forgive you. That’s up to them. You can forgive yourself.

You can forgive them. It doesn’t matter whether they know it or not. Forgive them for yourself, so you can let go if you harbor any ill will. Recognize that tomorrow will be another day. Who knows what it will bring. You fell down. Get up, dust off. Move forward.

Expect the best again. Don’t lose hope. Don’t give up because of an event. Stay the course. Get back on track. Shift away from the less than glorious and to the positive and productive. Focus what you want to create. Now, you know better what you want. Don’t you?

You’re Not A Finished Product – You Are A Work In Process

You know you didn’t want the ‘incident’. What is it you want instead? Phrase it in the positive. What good do you want? Focus on bringing that about even if you aren’t yet sure how. You know what you don’t want to happen. Now, turn your attention to what you do want.

Stop focusing on the event. You don’t want to give it energy and recreate it. You want to create something else. Put your energy and attention on what you do wish to create. For example, you had a fight but you want to get along. Don’t think about the fighting.

Imagine all the ways you can get along, all the wonderful, nice things, you can do to create rapport, trust and understanding. See yourself, feel yourself, behaving in loving way. Program your mind for what you want to include and leave what you don’t want, alone.

Be Thankful Even During The Trials – Celebrate Everything

I think this is how we remedy a bad situation. We look at it realistically. We sit with it a bit. We learn what we want, instead. We forgive and let it go. We put into practice making what we want a reality. From within to without. Our thoughts create our reality.

We celebrate the opportunity. Consider everything a blessing. We move forward. We choose to feel the best we can about what was a less than glorious situation. We transform ourselves by the renewing of our minds. I don’t have all the answers, but I hope this helps. From our learning we can celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes
