Do This! It’s One Of The Best Things You Can Do For You

“Times can be easy or difficult. Easy or difficult can be compounded by how we think, talk, and label the circumstances. Depending on our view, our perception, our mental filters, labels and judgement, easy can be really easy and difficult can be tremendously difficult.

It isn’t just what it is. IT IS what we THINK it is. Our filters and conditioned thoughts and beliefs weigh heavily on our experiences of people and events. We determine what the reality will be by how we think about it, perceive about it, and what we expect it to be.

We make our own versions of events. Most probably, much of the time, our versions are worse than the actual reality. Our mental worries, fears, doubts, anxieties, sadness and anger paint the experiences. They color and cloud reality big time.

Life Is All About Perceptions And They Affect Your Outcomes

So what can we do to make it different for ourselves? How do we get out of our own way and begin to see more clearly? How can we create better moments and have fewer of the difficult ones? The way out is simple. Not always easy, but it is simple to do.

It requires that you become aware, that you wake up to your habitual conditioning, whenever you do, and make a new decision about how you will proceed. It is up to you how you will make your future and your present moments better. You DO IT! YOU DO IT!

You drop the old filters and put on a new set of filters. From the new filters you will perceive things differently. The only way to do it, is to decide to do it. Decide not to do the old and decide to begin the new practice. Then keep doing it, until it becomes a new, positive habit.

What’s Behind Your Eyes Holds More Power Than What’s In Front

Here is what you do. You adopt this ‘mental filter’ so that you can view things differently. This is the filter you adopt: EVERYTHING is PERFECT as it is. You come to accept and believe everything is perfect. You are perfect just as you are. Everything IS perfect as IS.

The people around you are perfect, just as each one of them are. All circumstances are perfect, just as they are. Stop judging. Let go. Stop labeling. Drop it. Become aware. Operate from this new filter and embrace acceptance. Allow it. ALLOW yourself to do this.

I know right now many readers, yourself, may be thinking, ‘yes but what about…’ You find objections, counter-examples, areas where you don’t believe that this could be accurate, or valuable or even work at all. You think not everything is perfect. Right? Don’t you?

Positive Or Negative Affects And Reflects Your Results

That is normal when confronted by a new paradigm. You want to cling to the old. Your brain wants you to stay the same ole reliable you. It wants you to remain the old, chronic, habitually negatively programmed you, to stay that way! It doesn’t want you to change.

It will fight to keep you the same by raising all sorts of objections to keep you from implementing anything new and different. It is actually trying to keep you the same. It is your old, reliable friend supporting you in keeping the old behaviors. It doesn’t know better.

It just does what it always has done. Adopting new filters is good for you. Seeing in new ways and expanding your horizons to be able to be, do and have whatever more good you want is good for you. Practicing new thinking, feeling and behaving is good for you.

Your Perception Of The World Isn’t The Same As What’s Occurring

When you let go and accept unconditionally what IS you raise your own vibrational level. The higher we vibrate the more we are able to create and make things happen. The more good we attract to us. Remember, we attract what we are not what we want.

If everything is perfect it opens the door to allow more good things to come in. It is a mindset and a filter you adopt and adapt. What we believe about ourselves and the world, how we view people and circumstances, determines the results we get. We make it happen.

So keep this in mind. Allow and accept. Don’t judge. See others and everything as, just fine the way it is. This is a decision  we make about how we view things. We choose how we will look at ourselves and the world. Become aware that you do have choice. You truly do.

Change Your Perceptions Of Things And You Change Your Reality

Most people live from the conditioned habitual thoughts, beliefs and programming we adopted growing up. When we become aware that we don’t have to continue living from the old habitual conditioning, and that we have choices we can make, we become free. Be free.

Celebrate. Consider everyone and everything a blessing. Be grateful. It is perfect. You can’t see how it all works together presently, so trust it is all good. You don’t know all the unexpected good that is coming your way. So stop preventing it and start allowing it.

Be grateful. Be glad. Be optimistic. Be delighted. Be fun. Enjoy all of it. The tough times are perfect. The tough times are there just for you to learn from. Feel blessed. Feel gratitude. The more you do the freer you become and the more blessed you become. You vibrate high and you attract more good. So practice this and notice your life transforms. It happens most readily when you celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes

Stop! Distractions And Judgements Cause You To Fail

“With so much unrest in current affairs it is easy to get caught up. It is downright seductive. It is a major distraction. How much time is lost, spent finding out about, watching, worrying and fearing the worst about our present day affairs?

It’s a  preoccupation beyond one’s personal issues.  We get caught up in national and global ones. I have to admit it is difficult not to watch the news sometimes. I even find myself, at times, picking sides and posting on FB my own displeasure with what occurs.

Then I stop, remember and realize I am getting caught up in less than glorious thinking and acting. I want to put a guard before my words and thoughts.  I want to think and speak only to bless, heal and prosper. I don’t need distractions I need to focus on good often.

Starve Your Distractions – Feed Your Focus – Take Action

I recall I wrote quite a blog on being willing to forgive those who do us harm and to forgive others and ourselves. I remember this, and then  I realize I need to make a shift. I need to move away from the less than glorious and discover more of the truly glorious.

It is time to give up the fascination with news and current issues. I don’t mean we have to turn a blind eye. I am not saying there aren’t serious issues that require addressing. I am saying focus on what I  want. Focus on what I want to create, not on the circus. Get it?

I have been labeling and judging people. Instead, I should send them positive energy, love and light, I should bless these people and wish them the best. I should project positivity into all my relationships and doings, private, public, national and global. I should walk it.

If You’re Not Moving Toward Your Purpose – Leave It Alone

Not just talk it. Live from the heart. Live connected to source. I should rise above the current reality and imagine the reality I want to create instead. Then I should take positive, inspired, action steps toward making that come to pass. I don’t build up by tearing down.

Speak only to bless, heal and prosper. Love and forgive. Suspend judgement. Bless your accusers. Bless the naysayers. Bless those who seek to do harm. Forgive. It isn’t about them. They will be who they are. It is about you. It is about me. It is about how we live.

It is about our character, our values. It is about living from higher self instead of getting caught in the morass. Drop pretense. Drop judgement. Drop feeling superior. Let go of the ego. Allow what is to be what is. Imagine everything happens for a reason. Allow, let go.

Be About Actions Not Distractions – What You Focus On Expands

Imagine it is all a divine cosmic play. Live in love. Live feeling blessed. Life is too short to worry and fear and hate. Love, live, laugh, learn and let go. Let go and let god. Go with the flow. Send positive energy to everyone. Seek to raise consciousness not dampen it.

Yes, it is tempting to get caught up and I sometimes do. When I fall down, get up, brush off and continue. Live loving life. Enjoy, delight, sing and dance. Life is short so make the most of it. Fill each moment with what you want to have more of and you will get more of it!

Create what you want. Focus on what you want, what you enjoy, what you love, and what you want more of. Let go of the rest. Have fun. Seek to uplift yourself and others.  Be grateful. Be filled with gratitude and a sense of being blessed. Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes

Don’t Give Up Now For Something Less Important

“My message today is: Simplify your life. Recently, I have shared about taking small steps, getting clear of clutter, reclaiming your time, energy and you. Each of these can be accomplished more easily than you may have imagined. You can may be surprised! Reclaim it!

‘Take time to smell the roses’. A favorite saying of many and me. Take time. You don’t get time. You don’t luck into a free moment. It isn’t given to you. You take it. You choose how to spend it. Take time doing something nice. Take time to appreciate what is going on.

Take time to notice what is here and enjoy it. Breath it in. Delight in the fragrance. The same can be done at any moment regarding anything. Stop, take time to be grateful. Take time to savor life. Take time for yourself to let go, relax, and clear head and heart space.

Take Your Time Back Moment By Moment – Make It Memorable

Take time to enjoy your meal quietly. No phone. No texts. No computer. No TV. No noise. Just you and eating. Notice when you leave the present space and are thinking about what needs to be completed or started. Are you here now? Did you go elsewhere?

Stay present. Slow down. Enjoy the moment. Savor the delicious tastes. Focus on these. Notice how good this is. Many of us race through these moments. At the end of the day we haven’t live much because wherever we were we were actually somewhere else.

At the end of our life we notice we haven’t live much because we were too busy thinking about other things, we thought we important but weren’t. We got caught up. Right in front of us were our children but we were thinking about work. We missed being present!

Live Fully – Be Present – Become Fully Alive – Be Here Now 

We can only physically be in one place at one time, as far as we know. However, mentally, we can be in any number of places but where we are physically. This is a great talent. It can be very beneficial. It can also be a great distraction and disappointment.

We need to control it. We need to aim it. Don’t miss life NOW by being somewhere else in your head, or on your phone. Walk and look at the world, not at your phone. Texting can wait. Perhaps, your children can’t. This is why they grow up so fast. You aren’t there!

Take time. Take time to enjoy. Delight. Take time to rest and renew. Take time to love and share. Take time for the important people in your life. Take time to nourish yourself. Take time for silence. Take time to appreciate. Take time to live fully. Take time to be here now. Take your time back. Live, love, laugh and celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes

Focus On The Present To Create The Future

“Would you like to enjoy life much more? Would you prefer life be more like a graduation party and less like a pity party? It can be if you do some simple things. The first thing you must do is decide to take charge of your life and run it instead of being run by events.

It is your life. Imagine you created it all just for yourself. All the good and all the bad you designed it just for you. Whether it is true or not isn’t the point. It is a useful frame of mind to adopt that can make a difference in how much enjoyment you experience.

If you are doing it to you and for your benefit then whatever happens is good. Right? Good AND bad. Okay, we have discussed this before. It bears repeating. Everything can be a blessing. Most people miss this. In fact, most people miss most things.

Celebrate What You Want To See More Of

They live as if wearing blinders. You need to see. You need to sensitize yourself and become more aware. Really, you do. We all do. Begin to put your attention on all the wonderful things that happen to you and around you. Celebrate all of them. There are many!

Big moments and little moments. Those that happen to you and those that happen for others. Celebrate all of them. Notice all the good around you. DO you realize there is more good in the world than bad? There are more good weather days than inclement days.

That is just the way it is. Media has sensitized us to all that is wrong, not only near us, but around the globe, day in and day out. Stop! This is insane. There are things that are bad and wrong that DO need to be righted AND yet, there is a  lot of good all around the globe.

What You Focus On Expands – Celebrate The Goodness

There is more than most people realize, notice or appreciate. Appreciate it and enjoy it. Celebrate your wins and others too. When you can celebrate other people’s wins and success and happiness you open the door to create and attract more for yourself.

Genuine delight in others good fortune is a tremendous boon for the soul. Count your blessings. Find the good in each moment. Be happy in all things. Delight and enjoy! Savor it. Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes

Another Reason Why You Are Suffering And How To Stop

“Some people, maybe most all people, worry about the future. We have been trained and conditioned to try to solve future happenings. We think if we think it through enough maybe it will change. Some people can’t seem to stop thinking about it. They worry and fear.

Others drag the past around with them endlessly sifting through painful past moments. They have yet to let go. These people are weighted down by past experiences and spend much of their time reliving the hurt and disappointment. They regret so much.

Fewer live right now. It’s true most aren’t encouraged to do this. The present seems to always be sacrificed for some other moment. The difference with the present, from the past and the future, is the present is all we have. How we spend it IS how we live.

Do Not Look Back In Anger – Do Not Look Forward In Fear 

We can be present right now, in the here and now, or we can be sort of here now thinking about and feeling about other times. We have learned to rob ourselves of the pleasure of now. Right now there is no pain from the past and there is no anxiety about the future.

Those feelings are for other times. Right now, focused on right now, is all there is. Be right where you are. This moment. You can be happy right now. Mentally be where you are. It is perfect. The future has a not arrived, the past is over, there is nothing to worry about.

There is nothing to regret. Be here now. This moment is perfect. This moment you can be happy. This moment you can feel bliss. Gurus and sages have told you through the ages that now is when ALL IS available. That, this moment is perfect as it is.

Be Here Now In Awareness – Be Present

True, we have habits of thought, feeling and behavior. Shifting our focus from what we chronically do may not be the easiest thing to do but it is simple to do. The gurus say simply be here now. DROP the past and present. Bring your awareness to this moment.

What is going on right now? Can you feel the wind? What is the sensation? What are the smells? The sounds you hear? What are you seeing? Bring your attention to this moment and pay attention to whatever is going on. THIS we can learn to do. Shift our attention.

We must shift from the other times to pay attention to this time! Notice your breathing? Notice how the activity you are engaged in feels. If you are eating notice the flavor of your food as you chew. Put your attention on right this moment. Let go of all else.

The First Step To Changing Your Life Is Awareness

It is similar to how you learn to be a positive person. You shift your attention from the less than glorious to the glorious. You focus on what you have to be grateful for. You can shift to what is wonderful and you can be grateful for right now. YOU can do THIS! You can!

If you’re focused on right this instant you won’t be worrying about what’s coming.  You’re not concerned with what was.  Here and now is what your focus is on now. Some people will bother to concern themselves with thinking, how will they do anything in the future.

It will take care of it self.  Believe that, trust that for now. Don’t rob yourself of another moment with an excuse or a reason to put off what is good for you. You will encounter many thought red herrings that will take your attention away. Shift it back gently. Do it now.

The Mind Has Skill – Functionality – It Is A Robot – You Must Run It

Stay present. Begin the day, end the day focused on now. Whenever you can through the day draw your attention to now. It develops in increments. It develops in practice. It is done habitually as all else is. Learn to live now. Learn to focus and enjoy now. Learn to let go.

When the moment arrives to plan, you will plan in the here and now about the future without feeling anxiety about something that hasn’t happened yet. You do not know what will happen. You can’t see it yet. Enjoy the journey, notice where you are and step forward.

If it is around the bend you aren’t able to see around the bend so focus on where you are at.  The point of this discussion is, YOU always live from your conditioning. So to change you must change what you are conditioned to do. Stop feeling bad. Start feeling good.

Life Should Not Be Lived – Life Should Be Celebrated

To have change you must be change. You must do it. You must cease some things and initiate other things. The question of what you want for yourself will determine what you decide to do or not. It isn’t easy to learn to shift your focus but it isn’t easy to live in pain either.

It may be more comfortable to live in pain than to change it. That is because it is habit. If you change it one day living free from pain will be habit and comfortable too. It is your choice. Your decision right now determines what you have now and later. The power of choice!

If you put it off you put it off. You can begin this moment to live with greater awareness. You can begin to live life meditatively, more joyfully. You can ease your burdens and your worries and begin to find your bliss.  The power is In your decision.

Here And Now – That Is All There Is – Celebrate – Be Here Now

Work, whine and worry, fear, fret and despair OR live, love and laugh. Your choice. What you do next is completely up to you. My suggestion, if you struggle with this concept and practice, is do the least you can. Make one percent change your goal.

One percent, done correctly, repeatedly, consistently for enough time will result in  great change. It will result in incredible change! Do that, but don’t do nothing. Invest in yourself. Bring your attention to now. Deliberately delight. Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes

Do This To Feel Better And Get What You Want

“What is it that holds people back from happiness and success? Predominantly, it is not specifying what they want and focusing on it. People drift instead of focusing.  Most don’t take responsibility but complain and blame.  They lack of focus and don’t go for it

How did you do on the questions exercise? If you haven’t done it I hope you will. If you did it what did you discover? Repeat it every so often. It can be immensely helpful. Search my blog for questions, directed questions, and well-formed outcomes too. There is more!

What You Focus On Expands – You Get What You Focus On

Using questions is so powerful. We ask questions of ourselves all the time without realizing it. At other times we should be asking questions instead of making less than glorious affirmations or negative statements we accept as fact. Check into it.

As for the rest of the post today consider this:

Stop complaining. Do the best you can to change the situation. Know the direction you want to head in and head into it. Build what you want instead of tearing down what you don’t want. Direct yourself in positive ways. Learn to enjoy now for no reason.

It Is All About Focus – Focus Is What It Is All About – Focus

Go after your goals positively. Feel your best. Be optimistic and enjoy all life offers.  Explore the positive ways to feel good. Ask positive questions and maintain positive thoughts. Go for a walk, take a bath, do some form of physical activity. Something you enjoy!

Spend time with positive people. Read or listen to some inspirational material. Listen to some positive music. Dance, skip, get a massage, sauna, steam, take a bath. Have a wonderful meal. Whatever makes you enjoy more of life, do it. Concentrate on it and delight.

What Are You Focused On – It Is All About What You Focus On

Spend time feeling grateful. Count your blessings. Appreciate yourself, others and events that are pleasing to you. Meditate and reflect on the good in your life. Relax, take a nap, get some rest. Take a moment to enjoy yourself and celebrate everything.” Rex Sikes

Want To Be Happy And Successful? Then You Must Learn This Habit!

“To do what you have always done is easy. To do what is patterned, routine and habitual is both easy and efficient. That is how it is supposed to work.

Our brain makes habits of things so we don’t have to think through them consciously. Imagine having to relearn to drive every time you got in a car.

Instead, our brain makes habits. It lays down neural pathways. It streamlines. That is HOW our brains work. That is WHAT our brains work to do.

You Are Today Where Your Thoughts Have Brought You

That is why change can seem difficult. Because our lives are run mostly unconsciously. It is estimated we are 95-99 percent creatures of habit. We run most of the time on autopilot.

If we don’t like the results we are getting the good news is we can change our habits. We can create new ones to replace the old. We change, make new habits and overlay them on top of the old habits.

It takes a while to build the new habit. We  need to do it the same way we learned the original one through repetition over time. It takes getting used to the new programs.

Tomorrow You Will Be Where Your Thoughts Take You

Once we do they are as reliable as the old ones we replaced. Have you ever moved from one location to the other? For the first few days or weeks you’d discover yourself going the old way home.

That is what habit replacement is like. The old one, like the old home is still there. Sometimes you find yourself returning to the old way. One day, you no longer do. You simply go to the new address.

That is what it is like, because that IS what it is. You have laid the new habit over the old one and it takes the brain a bit to get used to doing the new one. Eventually it will. Eventually it does. Hooray!

You Cannot Escape The Results Of Your Thoughts

Once it does it is reliable and as automatic as the one it replaced. The issue for many people, what stops them from simply replacing old non-supportive habits for new supportive ones is imagination.

They, or you, can’t yet imagine living with the new habit. You don’t know what that life is like, yet, because you live from the only thing you have ever known. Guess what, that is?  Another habit.

How you think about and view your life. What you think is possible or not is habit for you. The only way to change it is to do what it takes to change it. Think differently, repeatedly, until it takes hold.

If You Always Do What You Always Did…

You must make thinking and imagining positively what you want the new habit. Then you will regularly begin to think the new positive, productive thoughts instead of the limiting old ones.

You do. In order to manifest what you want you must think about it habitually. That is how you have got everything you ever have got. Routine, habitual thinking. You made it happen that way.

So, if you haven’t liked the results you have been getting it means it is time for a change. It requires you to do things differently. You must get rid of the old thinking and think in new ways. That’s it!

…You Always Get What You Always Got

Do things differently, often enough, frequently enough until the new things become reliable, automated habit. It won’t always be easy, you will find yourself going to the old address a number of times.

If you stick with it and persist, no matter how seemingly difficult, you will succeed. With the new thoughts taking hold of what you want, in positive ways, you can begin to create the life you want.

Whenever you discover old, chronic negative thinking you replace it for positive new productive thinking you are taking control of your mind. You are directing your thoughts in a positive fashion.

Repetition Is The Mother Of Skill – Repeat Repeat Repeat

This means you can begin to target what you want, focus on it, and think the thoughts you need to think to make it happen. You think the thoughts of the desired good you want. Imagine it fully.

You think the thoughts needed for you to perform the right actions to make it happen. It won’t land in your lap because you think it, although with new thought, it can seem that way.

You do what is required to succeed. You take action steps because your thoughts and feelings align in such a way to produce new results. You do the thinking and the working. That’s how it works.

The More We Do The More We Can Do

The cool part is it feels really good. You feel yourself going after what you want and getting closer. It is like playing a fun game, you are doing really well and you know you are going to win.

Everything lines up! You do win. Why? Because you played well and eventually you could tell you were going to win. Also, you saw it through to the end and did not quit. You made it happen and enjoyed it.

The same is true of our goals and dreams. With new wonderful thinking , comes new feelings. With new wonderful feelings comes new actions. When these are all lined up come new wonderful results. Enjoy the process. Have fun. Be diligent and persistent.

What We Want To Do With Ease We Must First Do With Diligence

Keep going, don’t quit, see it through to the end. Commit to do this for yourself no matter what. Replace the old negative habits with positive new ones. While you are doing it live in appreciation.

Live in gratitude for being able to replace the old thoughts and make positive changes. Gratitude changes everything. Your energy, your thinking, your feelings are uplifted. You are lighter and at ease!

Begin to imagine the new life by truly enjoying everything about right now and about then. When you can enjoy everything, everything works for you. Live fully in the present and delight totally. The new life will be wonderful so celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes

Have You Accepted The Powerful 7 Day No Complaining Challenge? Yes Or No, Read This!

“If you decided to take the 7 Day No Complaining Challenge, congratulations! You have just decided to put a moratorium on complaining for at  least one week. This is a tremendous opportunity for you to grow and learn some important things about yourself.

You may wish to keep a journal. I highly recommend it. Journal what you noticed as you went through each day, each moment. There will be times when you become aware of complaining and stop it. Notice and journal it. Congratulate yourself too. Celebrate!

For example, I started to post something to FaceBook and realized it was a complaint. I stopped, deleted my comment before I posted it, and congratulated myself for becoming aware. My comment was just opinion. It wouldn’t have made anything better.

If there is a fire don’t throw gasoline on it. The point of the ban is to notice how often we complain, about what, perhaps why and to get over the need to do it. What are the triggers?  If it doesn’t uplift or contribute positively to you, why engage in it? Habit.

Most of us do it unconsciously from habit. We don’t control it. We don’t control our thoughts nor our behaviors. It is time to reclaim choice, make positive decisions and develop positive habits. Habits either build you up or tear you down. Increase or decrease.

In putting a ban on complaining, whining, blaming and excusing you have the incredible opportunity to move into new wonderful ways of being and doing. Once you start making positive changes you will discover more in return. Enjoy this process. Be rigorous AND enjoy!

There will be those times when you went right on complaining, most likely. Journal it. Don’t beat yourself up. Congratulate yourself that you eventually realized it. Do you understand? This is an opportunity to evolve not criticize yourself. Uplift don’t destroy!

If you started and you caught yourself complaining. Start over. That’s what I would do. The idea is to go for 7 Days without complaining, blaming and making excuses. Obviously, you don’t have to, it is entirely up to you, but it is a worthwhile choice.

Share what you notice in the comments if you feel inclined. It would be wonderful to support each other. Most importantly, once you made your commitment, keep your promise to yourself. Don’t throw in the towel, keep going. There is much waiting for you!

Enjoy the ‘ahas’! Have fun. Notice what happens to your experience, to you, to your life. This can be a small set of wonderful moments, or really huge. Whatever it is for you celebrate it. Stick with it and celebrate everything. It is a tremendous opportunity!” Rex Sikes

The Secret To Success Few Realize: Actor’s Improv Training

“Among other things I am an actor. Since I was three. I love it. As an actor there are many forms of training. Scene work, theater or on camera, commercials, audition, and improv. Believe me, there are many other approaches to this art and craft too. I mention this because there is an important concept I hope you will grasp.

The art of improv means spontaneous, extemporaneous, think on your feet, (comedic as is popularized by clubs  but there is also dramatic improv) acting entertainment. So let’s deal with what most people might know. The improv club. You go, have a few drinks or food and watch people respond to audience requests.

Topics blended together in unique ways, chosen out of a hat, so to speak. Actors then work together to entertain. A rule of improv, an important rule, in order to advance the premise and the scene is to say ‘Yes’ to whatever is offered. Say ‘yes’ and you have forward progress. Say no and the scene stops.

Live Love Laugh Celebrate And Enjoy

A lot of training goes into getting talent to go for the ‘yes’ right out of the gate. It keeps the ball rolling as long as the actors say ‘yes’. This is not uttered verbally, necessarily, while it can be, it is a concept.

A principle for good improv. Whatever is offered you you accept it, say yes to it, and add to it. Steer it. Your partner respond likewise. Together you keep it moving.

I am quote, a wonderful current talent, Tina Fey, who posted, back in 2011 her ‘4 Rules Of Innovation’ from her book ‘Bossypants’. ‘The first rule of improvisation is to AGREE. Saying “no” grinds invention, innovation  (and improv) to a screeching halt.

‘Obviously in real life you’re not always going to agree with what everyone says. But saying YES reminds you to respect what your partner has created and to start from an open-minded place. Start with a YES and see where that takes you.’

Wake Up And Live

‘The second rule of improv is to not only say YES, say YES, AND. In improv, you agree and then add something of your own. If your partner starts with, “I can’t believe it’s so hot in here,” and you just say “Yeah…” the skit has stalled. But if you respond with, “What did you expect? We’re in hell!” things keep moving forward.’

I’ll let you go find the other two rules, but I will nutshell it for you by briefly quoting her again. ‘Whatever the problem be part of the solution.’ and ‘there are no mistakes only opportunities. The next big laugh is around the corner.’  I love this and it fits so well with the philosophy and approaches I have been sharing in my blog.

I was reminded of this listening to friend and Casting Director, and expert, Amy Jo Berman implore actors to get improv training so that when things get switched up on them at an audition; when the sides (pages of script) are changed on them moments prior to going before the casting director, they are prepared, they are skilled, well trained talent and able to say ‘yes’. Nothing throws them!

Be Happy Smile More

I want to thank Tina and Amy for such great insight. I want to thank all those from ancient texts to modern day authors who have said the same thing, forever, in so many inspiring ways.

What we need to do is hear the message and then act on it. This is another reason why repetition is so necessary. Too often we miss what is really important!

As an actor in life we need to accept and affirm what is handed to us. Say ‘yes’ and add to it. Don’t let it stop there. We can steer it, just don’t resist it. Direct the energies in productive ways.

See it all the way through to the conclusion. Let go of preconceived notions of how things should be and go with the flow. Create some flow. Allow it to become better. Attitude is everything. Have fun and learn!

The more you practice these life skills the better you get at it, just as actors do practicing and rehearsing their craft. If you do it, repeat it, again and again, correctly, the logical outgrowth is you get better at it. You develop reliable, habitual skills. You evolve new neural pathways that serve you better.

Yes I Can

‘Start with a yes and see where that takes you’. Get in the habit of affirming life, of co-operating with others. moving forward, and adding value to all.

Keep moving it forward in positive ways. SO when life or someone throws you a curve ball you step in to bat. You aren’t thrown by changes.

Step up to the plate when life switches things up. Go for the run. Say ‘yes’ and move forward. Opportunity exists and the next big one is around the corner. Remember that! Set you attitude right and you can be, do and have anything. Live, love, laugh and say ‘yes’ to life! Celebrate! Rex Sikes
