Your Suffering Is All In Your Head But You Can Change It

“Buddha said  all suffering is due to thought. All suffering stems from not being present. The mind is conditioned to go backwards and forwards, to go anywhere but right here and now in the present. We have been conditioned from birth to not be present.

To be here now is to be totally present in the moment. Drop into the moment and be fulfilled in ways the mind can never know. It is beyond the mind. If you must think it is best to think the positive and focus on what you want to create and build. Stop negativity.

You can learn to gain control over your thoughts and feelings. You can be in charge. In learning control you can will learn how to still the mind. You learn how to focus, to concentrate, on what you want and to let go of what you do not want. Drop what you don’t want.

What You Resist Persists – What You Befriend You Transcend

People are concerned about what will be.  They fear or negatively anticipate, they worry, about the future.  They feel regret, shame, anger and guilt about the past. The past and the future keep us from the present moment. The worry or the shame locks us up negatively.

Try this on.  Go for a walk and noticed how your feet contact the earth. Put all your awareness and attention on your feet.  Feel the contact. Notice it. Notice the rate of your movement. Feel your legs moving, your arm swinging,  your body moving through space.

Feel the wind or lack of it. Feel the elements. Do nothing but feel. Attempt to be still. Quiet the voice, the sound track in your head. Whenever you notice you are not feeling, gently return your attention to your walking and continue to notice. Become  aware.

Do Not Identify With Your Thoughts – Stop Being Possessed 

On another walk focus on your feelings. Add observation. Observe your surrounding. See what you see. Notice.  Look at the space between the trees and the plants and the grass. Notice everything. Objects and the empty space between them. Simply look.

Focus on noticing and looking during a walk. On another walk  listen to the emptiness, the silence, the gaps in the sound. The gaps between thoughts. Notice sounds simultaneously occur. Listen for the silences between the sounds. Concentrate on hearing nothing.

During another walk simply walk. Feel, observe and listen. Be as present as possible. None of these walks, these exercises, need be rushed. Take your time. Indulge yourself. Go slowly. Be present. Go slowly. Do a little each day. Make it a ritual practice. A sacred art.

You Are Not Your Thoughts – You Are The Thinker Of Thoughts

In the present moment notice everything that is. Draw your attention to being in the moment. Notice when your mind goes elsewhere and gently bring it back to the present walk. The ancients called  it the monkey mind centuries ago because it jumps around.

You can’t suppress the monkey mind. It is a conditioned part of you but you can transcend it. You can go beyond it and simply watch it. You gain control by returning each time you stray. You learn to focus and shift your attention and keep it in one place. Be the watcher.

Learn to control your thoughts so your thinking can be more positive than negative. Learn to control your thinking so you can be more present, in the here and now. When you can control your thoughts, and you can be positive more than negative great things can begin.

Negative Thoughts Stick Around Because We Believe Them – Stop

Stay positive. You will think and feel better. During your practice stay aware. Notice when you are positive and when you aren’t. When your thoughts stray from positive gently return them. Don’t resist. Don’t push. Don’t  fight. Be patient, positive and gentle.

To do so requires awareness. Another exercise to do. Bring your attention to the moment. Let go of your past and future. Let go of the thoughts and simply watch them as if they were leaves on stream going by. Notice which are positive and which are negative.

We are so much more than our thoughts. People think they are their thoughts. They are controlled by their thoughts. Their thoughts torment them. YOU are the thinker. YOU should be in charge. We aren’t our thoughts. Discover who you are. Realize who you are.

Awareness Is The First Step In Positive Permanent Change

Learn to be present. Allow distractions to move on by. Stay in the present.  Learn to sit without thinking. Just sit and observe and listen and feel without thinking, without judging, without the describing. Be here now for there is nowhere else to be. Go with the flow.

Watch the white clouds as they drift in the sky. Listen to the gaps between words, between musical notes. Simply be. When you are here and now you are positive. When you are here and now you can be truly grateful. You can, in this moment, celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes

A Method For Getting Over Any Fear You Have

“My recent blog, ‘ A Method For Getting Over Your Fear Of Heights’ includes a powerful approach for making changes. For decades I have successfully helped people use this to get over fear of heights, flying, getting out of their house after years shut in, meeting people and many other irrational fears. People can change.  So can you!

Fear is good. Pain is good. It is only a signal that we should pay attention to. When fear becomes immobilizing for an everyday activity that most people engage in, then it is worthwhile addressing and overcoming it. Most fears can be readily dismissed quite easily.

While I use a myriad of approaches and methods I shared one incredibly effective approach so that you, or anyone, could begin using it to overcome limitations of any kind. What works for fear of heights works in other situations as well. Use it. Yes, use it!

Whether You Think You Can Or You Think You Can’t You Are Right

The key to being more effective in your life is gaining control over your own thinking process and emotions. Sometimes that means reigning in thoughts and feelings that are wildly flooding us. It is a tad more difficult after the flooding occurs than prior to it.

This means you can learn it as a preventive measure. You can learn it in advance of when you need it. You can practice and make habits those thoughts, feelings and actions when you aren’t pressured by taking the time to train them to work in your behalf.  Practice!

Preparation is a huge part of any endeavor. If you want to be able to do things more easily and live the kind of life free from worry and fear then take the time to learn how to do it right now. Practice. Act as if you already have made the change and are living as you want.

What We Want To Do With Ease We Must First Do With Diligence

ACT AS IF. Notice how good that feels. Notice the thoughts you have. Feel this fully and think the thoughts repeatedly. Condition your mind and body to work for you instead of against you. It is only doing what it has learned to do in the past, for whatever reasons.

Now train it to do what you want it to do instead. It will learn the new way too. Be patient and take the time to learn and condition yourself. Body shaping, food management, learning to sew or play basketball all take time. Be patient and expect the best. Visualize.

Support and encourage yourself. If you wish, get some training, get a coach or mentor, however, you can do this with a friend or on your own. Take your time and learn thoroughly. Enjoy the process of making changes. Control your mind and feelings. Affirm! Declare!

Correct Repetition Is The Mother Of Skill – Learn To Use It 

The benefits are beyond belief. You can’t yet imagine how wonderfully your life will change for the good, and it will when you take the appropriate action. Then, in time, step by step you will begin to notice how much more delightful everything is all around .

Change can be fun and easy. Inertia, getting up off the coach or out of our comfort zone, is what prevents most people. That, and that they don’t think change is possible for them. I am here to tell you it is absolutely possible. Don’t believe me. Prove it to yourself! You can!

You absolutely can! Start feeling gratitude for everything. Even your outrageous fear that has attempted to keep you safe. Be thankful for everything. Express your gratitude for your ability to change and for the changes you have made and will make. Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes

Stop Whining And Go Get It!

“People drift. Many don’t know what they really want or what to do. They vacillate. They fret and worry. They are lost or caught up in less than glorious circumstances. They seek answers. I have, you too. Pundits have offered answers and hope; some good, some not.

What I like about Napoleon Hill is he tells it like it is. Many proponents of the Law of Attraction make it about wishing, wanting and hoping. They promote magical thinking. They claim, make a wish and hope it comes true. Sadly, many give up when that doesn’t work.

Hill pointed out that you must have an obsessive desire to obtain what it is you want in life. You must crave it such that there is an intensity behind what you want; so much that you will be willing to do anything positive and productive to accomplish or attain it.

A Champion Is Someone Who Gets Up even When He Can’t

You don’t wish it to happen. You don’t just want it to happen. You don’t hope it will happen. You don’t just dream it’s going to happen. You actually act and make it happen.  You know what you want. You focus on it to the exclusion of all else. You concentrate intensely.

You make it your burning  desire. Believe that you will make it happen regardless of circumstances. Believe in yourself and that you can do it. Hill says you need Applied Faith for when the going gets tough AND it will get tough. You need to believe your way through.

He is one of the few people who point out that on the path to success there may be difficulty and obstacles . He asks, if you know anyone who succeeded right from the very start without any difficulty. The answer is usually no. There may be rare exceptions.

Champions Train – Losers Complain

Hill modeled over 500 of the wealthiest people and discovered that on the path to success many succeeded and failed numerous times prior to ultimately making it. Most encountered severe obstacles that seemed insurmountable, yet, they prevailed. They had will!

Because they were severely challenged they learned how to attract money and wealth. They learned that they had to keep going, in spite of unbelievable odds. They were convinced they would succeed. In doing so they became invincible and unstoppable.

It begins with mindset. Attitude makes all the difference.  Champions know it will happen.  They are convinced it will happen. They expect to make it happen and they do. It happens because THEY persist. They are committed . They NEVER give up!

What You Are Thinking Is What You Are Becoming

They keep going until they accomplish what they set out to do. They have steel willpower.  They continue to do the right things, repeatedly and consistently for long enough to get their goals. This is the formula for success Napoleon Hill reveals out in his books.

Other proponents promote the airy fairy fluff.  Just wish it to happen. This is magical, mysterious thinking. The problem is that you and I buy into these notions. We want the lazy, easy, ‘no work’ way to riches. We want it fast and sweet. We want it yesterday. Am I right?

People exposed to this concept, read or see ‘The Secret’ and expect it to be a piece a cake. They think all all they have to do is imagine it coming to them and it will rain down into their lap. When it doesn’t happen quick enough they get confused and frustrated.

You Are Confined Only By The Walls You Made Yourself

They get disappointed and give up. Some might keep at it for a while hoping to make it work. They try to find the right way to have the heavens release their goods. Ultimately, they feel misled. Meanwhile, all along they are creating negative results.

Either you get positive results or negative results. You get what you want or you get what you don’t want. They are good at creating negative results. They get what they don’t want because they don’t focus correctly on what they do want. Correct application is needed.

They don’t do what they need to do in order to get what they want. You need to concentrate on it and make it a burning desire. Remember? Yes, expect it to be easy but know there can be obstacles. Know too,  that you will see your way through anything!

Champions Are Made Of Desire – Determination – Hard Work

It is all YOUR mindset. It is all attitude and thinking management. How and what you think determines your feelings and emotions. You either feel inspired and motivated or you don’t. You either feel it is possible or impossible. You feel you can do it or you can’t do it.

How you feel determines how you behave. When your mindset is right your feeling lead to inspired actions. You act! You behave congruently with your thoughts and feelings.  From your inspired actions you develop success habits.

Habits either support your success or detract from it. You either have habits of success or failure habits. You either get going and get doing those things that make you a champion or you doubt, fear, procrastinate and do those things that prevent you. Get it?

Champions Are Propelled By Desire – Not Compelled By Fear

To make any behavior a habit it you repeat it. You do it correctly, consistently, for long enough and it becomes a habit. It becomes automatic and reliable. You grow new neural pathways. You evolve your brain. You develop new thought, feeling and behavior habits.

These success habits, in unison, lead to positive results. As Hill revealed, you program your mind. You direct your mind and inform your subconscious mind what you want. It then goes on the lookout for opportunity and plans how you can get those results.

It is not magic.  It’s brain science. It’s not voodoo it IS how your brain works. The ancient thought leaders didn’t have science to back up their claims. They only knew what worked and what didn’t. Today, we have research that verifies it for those who need more proof.

Rock Bottom Has Built Way More Champions Than Privilege

The bottom line is you can have the success you want if you really want it enough. You must take charge of your brain. You have to control your thoughts! You need to focus exclusively. Concentrate on what you want. Feel like you’re already have it. Act as if!

Visualize. Affirm. Expect it your mind.  Think about it day and night. Plan to get it. Plan how you will get it. Start whether you are ready or not. Step out on faith that you can do it. Work ur plan and revamp your plan until you do get it! Keep going no matter what.

Develop this attitude! Do these things and you will get everything you want. You will make it happen because you will unstoppable! You will have shaped and conditioned and evolved yourself into a powerful ‘go getter’ force. You will develop the will to succeed.

Champions Keep Playing Until They Get It Right

You will do whatever is good, positive and productive to make it happen. You can help others and celebrate their successes along the way. You aren’t competing against anyone else for anything. You are making YOUR dreams come true and celebrating their dreams too.

It may not always go easy but that is okay. That serves to make you stronger and wiser. More important than what you get in the end is WHO you become during the pursuit. Evolve towards the highest good and you ultimately win much more!

Become the kind of person the world needs and you will succeed. The more people you help, the more of their problems you solve the more wealth and good will you generate. The more lives you positive influence the richer you become. Good news! That is telling it like it is! Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes

What And Why You Must Read To Be Happy And Successful!

“I write long posts often. There is a reason for that. Leaders are readers. People who read tend to get further in their lives than others who don’t. Most famous leaders and innovators spend large portions of their daily time in reading and most importantly in study.

Reading to  gain knowledge is important, but it is also important for brain development and health. When you read you make mental images and mental connections. When you watch movies most of the images and sounds are supplied for you. You don’t do much.

When you read and when you implement what you read you grow new neural pathways. You grow your brain, the structure is actually enhanced. When you write and take notes, BY HAND, in script, you enhance brain structure and grow new neural connections.

Reading Reduces Stress And Mentally Stimulates Your Thinking

When you review and re-write your notes you are helping to wire in your learning, to make it more memorable and available for use. Learning is active and passive. The more you put into your learning the more you get back the benefits from it. It is very brain healthy.

You should read daily, as much as you can, but a least a page. Fill your mind with that which you want more of. Inspiration, motivation, creativity, positivity; use your imagination. Your brain is like a muscle that grows the more you use it. Review, re-write and re-word often.

Put what you read into your own words. Share it with others. Talk about what the author wrote. Every week or two review your notes. Re-write them. Re-word your own notes. The more you frequently review the more insight and understanding you derive.

Reading Increases Your Knowledge Your Vocabulary And Memory

Today, people don’t want to read. There are too many electronic distractions. Today, people flit from thing to thing without keeping their energy or attention on one subject. Focus and concentration is lost. We need to re-develop that. Learn to concentrate again.

When you spend time reading positive and inspiration material you fill your mind and being with possibilities, as well as, know how. You open up your horizons and expand your world. There really is no replacement for reading. Spend time reading each day.

I know some people won’t read my blogs because they are long. I also know those who take the time to read my long posts will benefit in many ways those others won’t. Read, study, engage your mind. Fill your mind positively. Pick up a book and dive into it.

It Improves You Analytical Skills Your Focus And Concentration

Find out what books those who live ultra happy and successful lives like to read and read those. Read what thought leaders and millionaires are reading. Discover which books and authors influenced them onto greatness in their lives. Study success!

Spend more time reading and reviewing and re-writing and re-wording and you will change your life for the better. Make the material you read your own. Embrace and embody what you learn rather than just adding facts and figures to your knowledge base. Read, learn, delight, APPLY and celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes

How To Change Or Eliminate Prior Past Conditioning So You Can Get What You Want

“What your life is like today is the result of prior past conditioning and decisions. You learned and co-opted beliefs and values from others while growing up. You came to some of your own conclusions, based on those you co-opted, from experiences you had.

You believe you are a free agent and independent thinker. To some extent that is accurate. Another way to consider this is that your mental mindset was formed before you had choices about it. You got it from others, it is habitual and it runs the show.

Your reactions are wired in. You are preprogrammed, it works reliable and it makes you predictable. We all are. This is both marvelous and not so marvelous. On the marvelous side it means we are able to learn and learned while very young and very well.

Your Past Never Defines Your Future If You Don’t Allow It

It operates without much conscious thought so it is reliable and consistent. We don’t have to relearn things over and over again. It works well for us. We are resourceful in many ways. We are conditioned and able to function perfectly.

The down side is much of what we learned is outdated. It served us better at one time than now. It is mostly other people’s opinions of life and of ourself that we live from, rather than our own. It can run counter to our own conscious desires and goals.

At the same time it may be why we have certain desires and goals and not others. We are a mix of really wonderful incredible processes and abilities and some not so great software, to use an analogy. If we have some faulty software we get faulty results.

Your Future Is Programmed By Your Thoughts Not Your Past

If your life is crap it is because you ALREADY, outside of you own awareness, decided it is crap. The decision was made for you, by you, out of the old chronic conditioning. Your very own habits determine how you would react to things.  Do you understand this?

Your prior programming is both a blessing, it truly is, and a limitation, it truly is. It is absolutely both. Many good and wonderful things have come about because of who and what you are. Some limitations present themselves too. Don’t succumb to blaming self or others.

You are both wonderfully resourceful and limited. Accept yourself and love yourself for who you are. Your past condition is not unchangeable. Some of your past is excellent too. Remember that. You can keep the good while ridding yourself of limitations.

Let Go Of The Limitations Of The Past And Keep The Good Past

Since these programs, this conditioning runs on and on, consistently and reliably, if you want to change things YOU have to do it now. Others programmed you in the past but now only YOU can change that programming. This next piece is important to understand.

You react before you have any awareness of what is happening. That is how the brain works. It learns to do things and then it does them automatically. Something internal or external triggers a programs and away it goes. It runs on and on, often, before you even know it.

Until or unless something happens to alter it or stop it, it does what it learned to do.  Habits are wired in. There are good habits and good programs that run a lot of your life. There are other habits many might label less than glorious. We are a mix of many things.

The Best Way To Predict Your Future Is To Create It

For example, getting very mad because traffic is ‘bad’. You don’t have to. Some people don’t, but, you do because that is what you’ve always done. Somewhere at sometime you reacted that way enough until it became a reliable neural highway! It became habit.

You could have learned it from parents. If a particular role model always yelled and screamed at traffic, it is reasonable that you might. It isn’t written in stone that you would, but there is a good chance you learned to do similar things. Experience and modeling shapes us.

Chemicals squirt and electric impulses fire off in a particular sequence and voila’ ROAD RAGE! It is reliable. It is automatic. It happens so fast. It happens nearly every time. You live with road stress. You’d prefer not to but you haven’t changed it, yet.

Everything Is A Blessing – A Learning – An Opportunity 

Imagine this occurs day and night, to work and back. That is NO way to spend your time. It is no way to spend your time in a car. Some people are worse, but many others are far better. They aren’t bothered at all about traffic. For others it may be a mild nuisance.

The only way to change it IS to change it. You have to get inside and make a new decision before the old one fires off.  BUT how on earth can you do that? How do you extinguish the chronic behavior? You have to teach the brain ‘Not That’ but ‘This’ instead.

You have to train your brain to NOT DO THAT but to do this other thing instead. You have to shift from rage to relaxed. HOW? Awareness is the key. You can’t get inside before the trigger results in a flood of electro-chemical activity.

You Have A Rare And Unprecedented Opportunity Before You

You must catch it shortly afterwards. The sooner the better. SO you must become sensitized to what sets it off. You must know the trigger. You must know the trigger point. You do this by deciding to change it. That is the first step. You make a decision.

You catch yourself after it happens and re-direct it. This is one way to approach changing it. The other is to pre-program what you want. Imagine it, visualize it, the way you want it to go instead. I’ll discuss this aspect in another blog post soon. Stay tuned.

One thing you can’t do successfully is think ‘I won’t get angry’ or I will not get angry.’ What is the key word in that sentence? Angry, right. SO if all the rest of the sentence weren’t there what are you left with? Angry. If you take away, ‘won’t’ and ‘not’, what have you?

Start Your Day With A Smile – Enjoy Every Moment Of Your Life

You are left with the thought ‘I will get angry’. The mind doesn’t accept negatives. It works only on positives. Similar to computers that function by code the brain has its own way of doing things. It says yes to everything. It ignores and doesn’t process, the ‘no’.

If you say, ‘I won’t overeat’ you are communicating ‘I’ll overeat’. If you say, ‘I do not want to be poor’ you are saying ‘I want to be poor’. Your subconscious responds to your thoughts AS commands. It does what you are telling it not to do, over and over again, habitually.

To begin to change you must change your thoughts and language by rote repetition and will. You must specify and say what you want. If you say, ‘I will only eat healthy’ does you brain know what you intend? It is better to specify. ‘I will eat green leafy vegetables.’

You Can Change Your Life – What We Think We Become

You can soften it a bit, at first, by saying, ‘I will learn to enjoy eating green leafy vegetables’ or ‘I will eat green leafy vegetables and like it.’ If you say ‘I want more money’. How much is more? 50 cents, a dollar or two is more money. Will that satisfy? Specify the amount.

Say, ‘I will make an extra 50 dollars a week.’ Or whatever amount you actually believe you can make. If you said a million, while it may be possible, it certainly is, if you don’t believe you can do it right now, start with a smaller amount you do believe and work your way up.

Then you get things working together for you. It’s important to believe your new declarations. If you say, ‘I will exercise everyday’ and you don’t believe it, chose a number of times you know you will and start with that. Then gradually add to it. Work up to it.

Believe You Can – Believe You Can – Believe You Can – Believe

Success breeds confidence and confidence breeds success. The more you successfully take small steps toward a positive outcome the more likely you will succeed. You will build your wins and as a result win more often. Drop by drop the tub gets filled.

It begins with awareness. The first awareness is that you want to make a change. Specify and clarify what you want in positive terms. Say, ‘I will behave in loving ways towards my children when they…’ rather than ‘I won’t get mad or upset when they…’

Know what you want. Specify it. Use positive phrasing for the declaration. You subconscious doesn’t care what you choose so you must. If you say, ‘I am stupid’ you subconscious mind says, ‘YUP’. If you say ‘I am smart’ your subconscious mind says ‘YUP’.

This Is Your Life Shape It – Take Charge Of It – Or Someone Else Will

Either way it will find examples from your past and your circumstances that demonstrate precisely what you said you were, stupid or smart. So learn to clean up your language. Whenever you utter something that leads to a bad conclusion you can change it.

The instant you hear yourself utter a less than glorious phrase, think or say, ‘Cancel’. or ‘Cancel that’ and change it to a positive phrase. You can think or say to others if you slip, ‘That is what I used to say in my past’ or some variation of that.

Put any behavior you don’t want into your past. That is something you used to do, but ‘thank goodness, I do ________ (insert positive behavior or thought) instead’. Become aware when you make assertions or declare how things are, when you don’t want them.

The Smallest Things You Do Can Lead To The  Biggest Changes

Assert and declare what you want even if you don’t have it yet. You will eventually because you focus your mind on what you want to go after instead of what you don’t want. It will go after either without care, so you must determine which is goes after the most. Get it?

Clean up your language. Place less than glorious behaviors and thoughts into the past. Frame it in your mind as something you used to do but thankfully you are wiser now and you think and do better things. Stop reinforcing what you do not want. Is this clear?

Reinforce ONLY what you do want. Whenever you think ‘I don’t want that’ STOP and switch the thought and the utterance to what it is you do want. Clarify what you want and affirm that. ‘I want this’! This is how you begin to train you brain and mind to work for you.

Age Is Of No Importance Unless You’re A Cheese Or A Wine

You train it to work for you to do what you want it to, instead of what it learned to do while you were very young and not in charge of it. NOW you take charge. Whenever you ask yourself a less than glorious question you change the thought and the language too.

When you catch yourself asking things like, ‘Why do things always suck for me?’ or ‘why am I unlucky?’ STOP and ask yourself a positively phrased question instead. Cancel the first and ask ‘Why I am I so blessed that good always happens for me?’ or ‘How come I am so lucky?’ Phrase it in the positive for yourself and ask away!

To change you must change what you are doing and do something you rarely did or never did before. You must clean up your thoughts and those things you say to yourself. A useful exercise would be to write out the limiting statements and questions you make .

I Am A Product Of My Decisions Not My Circumstances

Then write out their opposite positive statement or question. Take your ‘will nots’ and make them ‘I wills.’ Create a  list for yourself of the ones you know you do. The others, you aren’t aware of, you will catch as you make progress. You can absolutely change this!

You can end what holds you back and begin living in a new, positive, delightful way. Remember, every declaration you make about you, others, your circumstances, anything that follows the words ‘am’ ‘have’ ‘is’ or ‘are’, are affirmations, whether positive or not.

Stop negatively affirming and your life will improve. You get what you focus on. Stop putting energy and attention on the less than glorious and put it onto the positive and glorious. Focus on the good right now in you, others and your circumstances and your future.

If You Want Success Start Thinking Of Yourself As A Success

You will make the invisible good that you desire, the good you don’t yet have, visible and you’ll come to own it as you focus on creating it for yourself. Be proactive! Make these changes and you will bring about incredible opportunities and blessings.

Never Let Circumstances Bring You Down – Learn To Live Triumphantly

“Have you ever been on a roll and then excrement hits the fan? What’s up with that? Have you wondered, ‘WTF?’ You are riding high and then something comes along and levels the field or worse. It might suck, right? What if it didn’t have to? What would that be like?

Yesterday was a very different day from Monday’s blissful day. Some might say, the day presented some challenges. Certainly, there were numerous situations. For the purposes of illustration I’ll call them challenges. Still, the days WAS blissful and wonderful. One example.

Everywhere I drove during rush hour was jammed up. Each road I took, for the span over an hour, was a dead end, no outlet road, and detours to nowhere. It was amazing. I never before experienced anything quite like this. It was a twilight zone like.

Words Are Seeds – Be Careful What You Plant

I drove around trying to get out of a certain section that bounded a freeway and had construction, road and building, all around. After driving and trying each turn only to find it ultimately blocked I found one back road open! Hooray! Except it was closed by an accident!

There was no getting around it. I backed up, tried going back the way I came, to look for other avenues of escape. Finally, I found a way out. Once I got out I turned onto a major road which went up and over a bridge. As I got onto the bridge all traffic stopped. I was stuck.

I couldn’t go forward or turn back around. A truck broke down on the bridge shutting it down to one lane. Traffic was slowly merging right to go around. It was a good long while. I had never seen the traffic this congested, in this area, as far back as I can remember.

All That We Are Is The Result Of Our Thoughts

It was a different sort of busy driving day. After about an hour I managed to drive on into much more heavier bumper to bumper traffic. In my teen years in L A I’d have had road rage to the max. It was pretty tempting yesterday to let go and get angry about it.

Fortunately, I had the presence of mind to realize getting upset wouldn’t have changed the situations. I’d be stuck in traffic and mad, instead of stuck in traffic. Plus, as I have often pointed out, traffic is a fantastic place to learn to surrender and let go. So walk the talk, Rex.

I relax, and let go. I decided to assume I had created all this JUST especially for me. This is my mental construct, my fantasy. I wanted to discover, IF I had engineered this, or god or universe or whatever, why, what lesson might I take from it? Multiple lessons o’plenty!

Change Your Thinking And You Change Your Life

I examined and reflected. I gleaned insights for myself that I think are useful. Most importantly, the trite aphorism comes to mind, when life gives you lemons make lemonade. How do you make the best of a bad situation? If you label it bad to begin with, it’s tougher.

It is better not to label it anything at all. Don’t call it a problem or a challenge or an obstacle. It just is. Why start one down? It is what it is. The less we label the better off we are sometimes. Perhaps, we call it a situation or an opportunity. Yes, call it an opportunity.

Some think I must be mad. An opportunity! I can almost here them exclaim it. What are you outta your mind? Yes, I absolutely hope so. I hope I am out of the conditioning that says, if you have a hammer you treat everything as a nail. Problems do not make you feel good.

Thoughts Create Your Reality – Choose Your Thoughts Wisely

Opportunity may make you feel good. So it is an opportunity to relax, let go, enjoy sitting still, reflect, people watch, take a breather, learn from the situation. It IS whatever you decide it is. You determine whether it is good or bad. It is ALWAYS  YOUR choice.

Whether others agree isn’t the point. You can find plenty for whom misery loves company. You can band together and complain long and hard and it won’t change anything except your emotional state for the worse. Fewer will choose to look at it as a blessing. Yet, it is.

IF YOU decide it is. Everything IS as it is. You decide whether it is a blessing or not. As for me, I prefer that there are more blessings and opportunities than problems and obstacles. I want my blessing ration high so I declare more things blessings than otherwise.

Once You Become Aware Of How Powerful Your Thoughts Are …

You want to learn mental control? You want to be more resourceful?You want to live a better life? THEN live blessed and filled with gratitude! Enjoy everything. I point this out, this happening yesterday for a reason.  Some think, well it’s easy if your life is easy.

Some think, positive thinking is wearing rose tinted glasses. Some think, easy for you to say if you don’t have any challenges or face everyday constraints like the rest of us. I do, you do, we all do. Few lived charmed lives and aren’t touch by hurt or despair. Few, maybe.

Most everyone has to live with the day to day situations. Ups and downs, highs and lows, goods and bads. Most people have grown up learning to complain about circumstances and to long or wish for other circumstances. There are preferences and habits.

… You’ll Realize Everything In Your Life Is How You Allow It To Be

Habit has most people whining and complaining, excusing and blaming. Stop living your life dictated by circumstances. Instead dictate how you respond to the circumstances. Be larger than the problems. Call them anything but problems. Call them opportunities.

Practice this correctly long enough and you can get pretty good at it. Get good at letting go, living well and enjoying all events and circumstances as much as possible. Then as speed bumps occur you can find yourself at ease instead of getting bent out of shape.

You change habits with awareness and understanding. You change habits through correct repetition. You change habits by willpower and persistence. You change  by being committed to changing no matter what. As you change, what is difficult at first, becomes easier.

You Create Your Own Reality For Goodness Sake Have Good Taste

Awareness is the key. Whenever you realize you are thinking or feeling less than glorious make a purposeful, deliberate move to shift from the not glorious to the more glorious. Shift from negative to positive. Deliberately, with intention, as often as necessary.

Sometimes, you just have to do it a lot, over and over again. Other times it is easier. Just as with my two blog posts, sometimes it is wonderful sometime’s it ain’t. HOWEVER, it will always be whatever you make it. It will always be whatever you declare it to be.

You either affirm it as a problem or affirm it as a blessing. The choice is yours. The decision is yours. Learn to make new decisions and consider more and more in your life blessings and you will create, attract and re-frame more things as blessings.

What You Think Is What You Get – What You Say Is What You Get

You and your life will become richer and more blessed. The trade off is marvelous. It is! It can be beyond glorious. You only find out, however, by putting these principles into action. To know and not do is to not know. You life becomes glorious WHEN you take action!

Enjoy and delight more. Get hooked into trauma drama and crap less, regardless of what is occurring. Refuse to name things as problems but look at them as opportunities to discover cool things and they will be. It ain’t over till the fat lady sings! It is never done.

What you SAY is what YOU GET! Say what you want it to be and it will be that! YOU ARE THE AUTHORITY – you are responsible. No one else is. Make your life the life you want! Delight in everything. Enjoy everything. Feel blessed more often and you will be. Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes

Another Reason Why You Are Suffering And How To Stop

“Some people, maybe most all people, worry about the future. We have been trained and conditioned to try to solve future happenings. We think if we think it through enough maybe it will change. Some people can’t seem to stop thinking about it. They worry and fear.

Others drag the past around with them endlessly sifting through painful past moments. They have yet to let go. These people are weighted down by past experiences and spend much of their time reliving the hurt and disappointment. They regret so much.

Fewer live right now. It’s true most aren’t encouraged to do this. The present seems to always be sacrificed for some other moment. The difference with the present, from the past and the future, is the present is all we have. How we spend it IS how we live.

Do Not Look Back In Anger – Do Not Look Forward In Fear 

We can be present right now, in the here and now, or we can be sort of here now thinking about and feeling about other times. We have learned to rob ourselves of the pleasure of now. Right now there is no pain from the past and there is no anxiety about the future.

Those feelings are for other times. Right now, focused on right now, is all there is. Be right where you are. This moment. You can be happy right now. Mentally be where you are. It is perfect. The future has a not arrived, the past is over, there is nothing to worry about.

There is nothing to regret. Be here now. This moment is perfect. This moment you can be happy. This moment you can feel bliss. Gurus and sages have told you through the ages that now is when ALL IS available. That, this moment is perfect as it is.

Be Here Now In Awareness – Be Present

True, we have habits of thought, feeling and behavior. Shifting our focus from what we chronically do may not be the easiest thing to do but it is simple to do. The gurus say simply be here now. DROP the past and present. Bring your awareness to this moment.

What is going on right now? Can you feel the wind? What is the sensation? What are the smells? The sounds you hear? What are you seeing? Bring your attention to this moment and pay attention to whatever is going on. THIS we can learn to do. Shift our attention.

We must shift from the other times to pay attention to this time! Notice your breathing? Notice how the activity you are engaged in feels. If you are eating notice the flavor of your food as you chew. Put your attention on right this moment. Let go of all else.

The First Step To Changing Your Life Is Awareness

It is similar to how you learn to be a positive person. You shift your attention from the less than glorious to the glorious. You focus on what you have to be grateful for. You can shift to what is wonderful and you can be grateful for right now. YOU can do THIS! You can!

If you’re focused on right this instant you won’t be worrying about what’s coming.  You’re not concerned with what was.  Here and now is what your focus is on now. Some people will bother to concern themselves with thinking, how will they do anything in the future.

It will take care of it self.  Believe that, trust that for now. Don’t rob yourself of another moment with an excuse or a reason to put off what is good for you. You will encounter many thought red herrings that will take your attention away. Shift it back gently. Do it now.

The Mind Has Skill – Functionality – It Is A Robot – You Must Run It

Stay present. Begin the day, end the day focused on now. Whenever you can through the day draw your attention to now. It develops in increments. It develops in practice. It is done habitually as all else is. Learn to live now. Learn to focus and enjoy now. Learn to let go.

When the moment arrives to plan, you will plan in the here and now about the future without feeling anxiety about something that hasn’t happened yet. You do not know what will happen. You can’t see it yet. Enjoy the journey, notice where you are and step forward.

If it is around the bend you aren’t able to see around the bend so focus on where you are at.  The point of this discussion is, YOU always live from your conditioning. So to change you must change what you are conditioned to do. Stop feeling bad. Start feeling good.

Life Should Not Be Lived – Life Should Be Celebrated

To have change you must be change. You must do it. You must cease some things and initiate other things. The question of what you want for yourself will determine what you decide to do or not. It isn’t easy to learn to shift your focus but it isn’t easy to live in pain either.

It may be more comfortable to live in pain than to change it. That is because it is habit. If you change it one day living free from pain will be habit and comfortable too. It is your choice. Your decision right now determines what you have now and later. The power of choice!

If you put it off you put it off. You can begin this moment to live with greater awareness. You can begin to live life meditatively, more joyfully. You can ease your burdens and your worries and begin to find your bliss.  The power is In your decision.

Here And Now – That Is All There Is – Celebrate – Be Here Now

Work, whine and worry, fear, fret and despair OR live, love and laugh. Your choice. What you do next is completely up to you. My suggestion, if you struggle with this concept and practice, is do the least you can. Make one percent change your goal.

One percent, done correctly, repeatedly, consistently for enough time will result in  great change. It will result in incredible change! Do that, but don’t do nothing. Invest in yourself. Bring your attention to now. Deliberately delight. Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes

Why You Must Change Your Unconscious Habits Now!

“If you always do what you have always done you will always get what you always got. That means if you struggle, if you fail, if you can’t get ahead you will continue to struggle, fail and be held back until you change what you are doing that prevents you!

In the 1980’s I taught meditation and personal development programs including Neuro Linguistic Programming and related disciplines. I enjoyed sharing state of the art, up to date, cutting edge thinking and research of that time. I still do all of it and enjoy it.

The available information based on research, then, indicated that humans operated at least at 95% on automatic. Subconscious habitual programs run the show. The thinking then was this might even be a low estimation. Since then this has been corroborated.

We’ve Been Programmed In Small Bits Repeated Day In Day Out

Today, researchers believe the same based on research over those years. I believe the estimation goes back further, to even ancient times, and that the language changes to describe the same ‘news’. Ancients meant the same thing using different words to describe.

We are creatures of habit. We learned beliefs, attitudes and behaviors from before we could speak, walk, read and write. Early on, we were conditioned in various ways to learn our family, our cultural values, ideologies, religions, and all the rest that we have.

We have been conditioned and live out that conditioning. We repeat endlessly throughout our lives thoughts, feelings and actions. We hardly notice unless for some reason we become aware. Unless we have an aha moment, good or not so good, we continue on and on.

Success Is The Sum Of Small Efforts Repeated Day In And Day Out

For some it occurs with a thought, ‘why do I always feel this way?’ or ‘how come I always screw up?’ or some similar variation. At some point we become illuminated to a reoccurring, less than glorious, theme and we decide to change it. Or at least attempt it.

When we do we encounter the habitual machinery’s awesome power. 95% of us, that force, maintains the ‘show’. Our tiny 5% conscious decision to change has to contend with 95% conditioned, well entrenched, well traveled neural pathways of habit.

Many who decide to change, give up. They give in. They exclaim, ‘I tried that and it didn’t work!’ Face it, if you have ever tried to give up smoking, drinking or eating, or certain habits such as nail biting, or pulling your hair out, worry and anxiety, it can be difficult. At first.

The Difference Between Who You Are And Who You Want To Be …

The problem with many people is they don’t make it past the first tough times. People will tell you that you can’t change. Obviously, that isn’t true or no one would ever change. People do change. Some will tell you that you need help. That may be true in certain ways.

A mentor or coach is a great idea. Support for changing with other positive people who encourage you, yes. People who have done what you want to can be most beneficial to learn from. Help as long as it is actually helpful is a good idea. Help in name only isn’t.

It is important to realize that your feelings can help you but often don’t. It all begins with thought. Whatever your first thoughts are produce your feelings. Those feelings in turn produce your subsequent thoughts. Might I add, this too is habitual.

… Is What You Think Feel Do And Make A Habit

We tend to think, feel and do what we have always thought, felt and done. Over and over and over again. Some people decide, ‘I will do it! Habitually, they add from their programming, ‘but it won’t be easy. It is hard. I may not succeed. The odds are against it.’ or some variation.

Then they feel less than able, they feel like they can’t, that it will be impossible. They are too tired or too weak. Their emotions are  not supercharged and motivated, they feel unable and unmotivated. Their next thoughts are ‘I can’t, too hard. this sucks, oh well!’

‘I tried and it doesn’t work!’ Their thoughts and feelings, because of their habitual conditioning, didn’t serve them. At this point you might wonder is there any hope then? YES! There is! Hang in there. There is much you can do. More than I can share in this one post.

Good Habits Are The Key To Your Success – Develop Good Habits

I have been sharing all along and will continue in the next posts too. You must choose to change. You must make the decision! You must commit to making it happen. If you always do what you always did you will always remain the same. Nothing will change.

You must decide you really want to and that you will no matter what. Yes, that is 5% conscious mind exclaiming, ‘I am going to do it’.  Have you ever heard the children’s tale ‘The Little Engine That Could’. ‘I think I can I think I can’. Well, thinking works and is the beginning.

Some say positive thinking won’t work and isn’t enough. They are completely wrong and somewhat correct. It begins with positive thinking. BUT we never think without accompanying emotions that support and reinforce what we are thinking.

What You Think Is What You Get – Results Begin With Thought

When we think negative thoughts we feel bad emotionally and our body changes. Even our brain structure detrimentally changes if our negative thinking lasts long enough. When we think positive we feel good and our body and health and brain can improve.

We must think positive thoughts and have the positive feelings. So work on having both. Think the thoughts and feel the feelings. Do the things that make us feel positive so we can more readily think positive. It is cyclic. Think and feel, feel and think. We do both.

If you know you want to change and must change that is the starting place. You can and will do it if you want it enough and dedicate yourself to making it happen. You must be willing to see it through to the end. Even if you are unsure at first, you can do it. It does work.

Success Is Not A One Time Thing – It Is A Way Of Life

Begin today! Fill your mind with great thoughts. Need help? Read this blog, read Napoleon Hill, Norman Vincent Peale, Jim Rohn, Zig Ziglar, and others. Devote a portion of your morning to reading positive material from the masters of thought. It works.

Pick one or two positive, powerful, simply worded, affirmations and chant them over and over as if you were cheering on your favorite team. Get enthused when you do it. Be awesome and powerful. Exaggerate it! Shout it! Do it! I’ll share more in the next post.

How You Talk To Yourself And Others Physically Changes Your Brain

“What you say silently and out loud to yourself, and others, has a physiological effect on your brain structure and density. You grow new neural pathways on the left side or the right side of the prefrontal cortex according to research. Positively or negatively.

According to various researchers, Doldge, Merzenich and others, plus research conducted at UCLA by Schwartz and Gladding, what you say and how you say it dramatically affects you, your behaviors and the results you can get while physically reshaping your brain.

Research demonstrates that negative thinking, your thoughts, images and words, negatively grow more neurons (neural pathways) in the front right part of the brain known as the right prefrontal cortex. Negative thinking closes one off to discovering opportunity.

What You See – Imagine – Is What You Get – Replace the Negative

People who think negatively literally close off possibilities, ideas, opportunities and slow down brain processing speeds. The brain slows down because it has to deal with fight, flight or freeze instead of focusing on advantages and solutions. It is a literal drag.

Negative thinking has a physical and operational effect on the brain. Whereas, people who think positively reshape and stimulate their brain on the left prefrontal cortex making it more likely they will notice advantages, solutions and opportunity. Beneficial results!

People who think positive tend to make better choices. When you think and talk positively to yourself you wire in the neural pathways that positively alters the structure of your  brain. This causes you to look at life more positively, feel better and increases your options.

What You Say – Declare – Is What You Get – Replace The Negative

When you look at life optimistically, feel good and have more possibilities you tend to be happier and more successful. Remember, thoughts lead to feelings, feelings lead to actions, actions lead to habits and habits lead to results. You create neural pathways.

Either you create neural pathways that support you and become successful habits through inspired right action or you lay down less than glorious neural pathways that tend to slow you down and keep you stuck. It is your choice. Which you will do more of? Your choice!

If you want things in your life to change you must change how you think. Taking control of your mind means you stop old habits and begin new positive ones. You steer your mind to do what you want it to do. You train it to think how you want it to think. You are master.

What You Feel Is What You Get – Replace Negative With Positive

Withdraw energy from the negative and put it into the positive. If you stop supporting negative habits AND you encourage and support new positive habits you can make the changes you desire. It is a conditioning process. Persist all the way through and you’ll do it.

You will bring about the changes if you keep going until you get here. Don’t quit because it might be tough at times. Push on through. It is far easier than most people think it is prior to trying it out. Dive in. Change your thinking and change your life! The process is simple!

It won’t change if you don’t. It will change if YOU do! Begin with gratitude. Find things you appreciate about yourself, others and the world. Count your blessings often throughout each day. Delight in it all.  A new world can and open up to you when you take charge.

Always Believe Something Wonderful Is About To Happen – It Will

Fill your mind with positivity. Read and listen to inspired materials. Stay focused. Speak only to bless, heal and prosper yourself and others. Keep the stories of your life that you speak about to others positive. Do this and soon you will discover your life improving.

The Reason You Must Be Tough And Speak With Authority

“Most people seek and find problems. They don’t think they do but that is what they spend most of their time doing. They put out daily fires. Then they re-live them by talking about the fires of today and from long ago. They keep the issues alive in their minds talking about them. They even seem proud to share them much of the time.

They look for where things are wrong. They look for poverty, lack, frustration, crap and they find it. They seek limitations and what they can’t do and they find them. You can’t move forward always focused on what’s behind you. You must look forward. You must look forward free of what holds you back.

Stop looking at limitation and problems! Reverse the direction. Seek what is good and new. Seek and find what is enjoyable and positive that you can delight in. The brain provides you with either. It is up to you to direct it. The brain’s default is problems and dangers. It evolved this way to protect you in the jungle. It does a great job too!

You Must Focus On The Finish Line To Win Not The Starting Line

It is good at finding what is wrong so you could deal with it if you had to. This is WHY you must take charge of your brain and learn to direct it. You want to move it from operating at default to working for you. It will work perfectly for you when you train it to. It is a wonderful servant but a terrible master. You must master it.

The reason it seems difficult at first to make positive changes or gain control over one’s thoughts and feelings is because it runs by habit automatically. You want it to do that. You want it to be somewhat difficult to change because you want it reliable. You don’t want it  randomly changing all over the place. You want it to be consistent.

So it seems tough at first. It may be a little but you can change it. You must absolutely, positively change your focus from what you currently see, what the ‘reality’ currently is, and focus completely on the reality you want to create. You must focus on, and maintain your concentration on, the future reality as though you already have it.

Refuse To Succumb Emotionally To Negative Events Around You

Don’t talk about what is. Stop. That is what you must no longer do. Talk only about what will be as if it has already happened. Create what you want. Don’t reinforce what you don’t like. Yet, that is what most people do. They discuss what is wrong far more often than what can and will be. That is why what can be never shows up.

Command the future to become your present. Demand it. Declare it. Affirm it with strong emotions. Expect it. Be certain of it. Then you will make it happen. You most likely can’t get to this place over night. It takes work, dedication and persistence. It takes will power. That is why many abandon the pursuit. They don’t develop what it takes.

People will tell them, ‘you can’t do it’. They will read articles that state, if you focus on what you want and don’t get it you will be disappointed. So don’t try it is too hard. There are all sorts of messages from others, and reasons from oneself, why not to attempt it. If you never attempt it you will never know what might have been.

A Journey Of A Thousand Miles Begins With A Single Step

The courageous and the steadfast make it happen. That is the plain truth. Those who go after their goals, in a smart and wise fashion, can and do make them happen. There are plenty of examples of people who get what they want and even exceed their own expectations. Learn from them. Learn from success. You can do it.

Don’t learn from those who haven’t done it and tell you not to. You are listening to the wrong people. Listen to those who try and who win. Stop listening to those who don’t and haven’t. They may mean well, so be polite, but if they are holding you  back, if you are holding yourself back, then what is certain is, you are held back if you listen.

Stop and move forward. How? Do what I have been sharing in these posts. Condition you mind. Learn from successful people. Focus on gratitude and ‘can do’. Do something each day. Exercise your mental muscle as you have to to condition your body. Eventually, the results will begin showing up. It isn’t magic. It is how it works. IT does work!

The Pain You Feel Today Is The Strength You Will Feel Tomorrow

You don’t get in physical shape overnight. It takes time. The same is true with mental toughness and the renewal of your mind. You condition it for success. Remember, the quote I shared from Muhammad Ali, ‘I hated every minute of training, but I said, ‘Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.’

You must become the authority of your life. You must take charge, be in charge and stay in charge. You must think, and speak and act from authority. Stop being the victim of your own mental processes. Develop the direction  that serves you. Your brain is already serving you well. NOW you have to learn how to aim it positively. That’s all.

Your brain is working perfectly well on default to get keep you focused on what is wrong so you are aware of it. That is marvelous appreciate that. NOW learn to turn your attention from the problem to the solution and what works and what is good. Stop focusing on what is broken, wrong and bad. That is what you must learn. Steer it.

Develop The Mental Strength And Toughness Of A Warrior

Out of control it will run on and on as it always has. Take control and you will discover how powerful your are. If you don’t have enough money stop, shift the focus. Be thankful for the little bit of money you do have! Be grateful you have any money. Be grateful money flows.  Be grateful you can spend that money even if it is on bills.

You are circulating energy. You are making things move. If your attitude sucks, if it is is, ‘woe is me I am  broke, I’ll never have enough, this is awful’ what do you expect to attract and live from. You live from that attitude. That is your reality. Why? Because you go no further. Yes, you wish it different but you don’t demand it.

If on the other hand you begin by emphasizing what you are grateful for, what you have, ‘I have money, I can spend money, it is good to circulate money, I am able to put money toward my bills, money flows to me and I use it as a tool’.  Then you have a much more productive mindset. Speak with authority that which you want.

Whether You Think You Can Or You Think You Can’t You Are Right

Inside you mind live as if you already have it. Imagine this, see it, feel it and say it once or twice a day. Work your way into it. Concentrate on having wonderful feelings when you imagine and speak what you want your future to include. Imagine this future IS your present reality. Live within that reality, experience this fully in your mind.

‘I am glad I have money. I am glad I can spend money. I am happy to take care of my bills because it means I have money.’ This may seem foreign to you if you have’t done it. If you haven’t and you have been stuck for awhile realize that if you want things to be different in your life you are going to have to do different things.

You can’t do the same things and get different results. You must be different to get different. Be, do and have. Mindset first and actions will follow. Speak with authority. Live from your own strength and power. It will take a little while to develop strong muscles but you will as you work at it. Keep going and don’t give up. Commit.

If You Want Quality Act As If You Already Have It

Know what you want. Imagine it as if you already have it. Feel good and enjoy the marvelous feelings. Believe in yourself and expect to make it happen and never quit. You will make your dreams come true. Enjoy the journey all along the way. Learn from obstacles and keep going. Keep the faith. Feel positive. Plan for success!

You become what you think about most often. What you focus on expands. Energy flows where your attention goes. If it is going to happen it will be up to you. Remember and repeat, ‘If it is going to be it is up to me!’ It truly is. Enjoy making positive and powerful changes. Have fun with it. Delight and celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes
