How To Speak And Write More Powerfully And Persuasively

I posted this previously, some time ago. However, it is useful to know and apply so I post it again. Study it and use it. Go deeper and learn more and your effectiveness will grow and grow. When you learn how to direct your own mind you become its master. Enjoy! Enjoy!

The following article I wrote for Joe Vitale long before he appeared in The Secret. It is based on my work from the 1980’s onward. The article is formatted as it was for Joe’s site and includes date and copyright. Truly, learn from this and master it. Benefits are great!

You may notice many things from this article that are common place today. They weren’t so common place back in the 80’s 90’s and early 21st Century. Much of my work is now widely used in other’s books and programs all around the world. This pleases me to no end. I’m glad to be able to help! The work made its way near and far.

How Questions Can Make Your Writing More Hypnotic  Article by Rex Steven Sikes

Did you know there are actually three languages inside the English language? That’s right, at least three!

There is the language of pictures or how things appear, how we see or view them in our mind as well as out there in the real world.

Second, there is the language of sounds or what we say to ourselves and what we hear on the inside.

And third there is the language of feelings, like when something wonderful grabs hold of us and makes us feel warm and special inside.

Knowing the three languages and incorporating them into your hypnotic writing makes your appeals even more powerful. Words like “paint, picture, imagine, bright, dim, flash,” are visual words.

Words that convey sound or auditory information are words like “discuss, hear, harmony, tell, say to yourself”. And words that help us feel things are words like “warm, cold, shudder, feel, grasp, walk through, get a hold of, heart to heart”.

By spicing up your writing with these words you help others begin to imagine more clearly what you are saying because you appeal to at least three of our five senses. And that’s a tasty thing to do that will spice up your writing and make it more vivid to the people who are reading your work.

But that’s not all there is. There is something even more incredible, that directs the human mind to pay attention. Do you know what that is?

Not yet, but I have just given you some great examples. It is the power of questions. You see questions direct the mind. That is true whether you are asking a question of yourself or another person.

Perhaps you say “Yeah, who says?” See there, you just asked a question! And the incredible thing is that this is what our brains are designed to do: Ask and answer questions posed to it and find solutions and new behaviors.

Brains love questions! That’s what brains do all day log. They go in search of things they can do that make life more interesting. Your brains already know how to search for and find information. The key is learning how to use questions to direct your mind in powerful and positive ways.

The problem with most people is that they already use questions to get results they don’t want. They ask things like ‘Why do bad things always happen to me?’ or ‘How come I never do anything right?’ or ‘How come others always get ahead?’ or ‘Why am I so stupid?’

And guess what? Your brain knows exactly where to go in your personal history to find the answers. What your brain does is go on a search, and then comes back with things like ‘Well, it’s because you stuck your head in the toaster when you were four years old’, or ‘You didn’t have the right kind of teachers, or parents,’ or ‘Bad things always happen to good people’.

You see, it is automatic. Ask a question of the brain and it answers in a great variety of ways. In fact the brain keeps on working on the questions long after the answers start being delivered. You know how that is, don’t you? You certainly do if you ever experienced that critical voice that keeps ragging and nagging on you long into the night.

Would you like to find a way to end that? Would you like to be able to direct your mind in powerful, positive ways? Do you want to be more influential and positively persuasive in person—and in your writing?

The key to having more wonderful things happen within you is to help the brain help you by redirecting what it already does well. If instead of asking questions like the negative ones above, we learn to instead begin asking questions about how wonderful things are, then the brain has a positive direction to follow.

And by focusing our attention on what we want instead of what we don’t want our brains can help deliver the good things to us. There is a rule that states, ‘What you focus on you get.’ So if you are focused on negative questions and negative things, the brain goes “okay I can deliver that”.

The brain isn’t biased. Good or bad, it just does what it knows. So we need to grab hold of it and utilize it to our advantage by redirecting it and then letting it run.

For example, you ask this instead: ‘I wonder how soon before I begin to realize how talented I am?’ or ‘I wonder how quickly I can realize how fortunate I am?’ or ‘How delighted will I be to discover my powers of persuasion increasing rapidly?’

You see, when you direct your mind to what you want, your brain says, ‘I don’t know the answer but I’ll go and find out.’ And that is the key! You ask a question which sends your brain in the direction of what is positive that you want to have, but to which you don’t know the answer yet.

If you are familiar at all with powerful hypnotic languaging, you will already notice the kinds of useful hypnotic language patterns I use in these questions. If not, well then be happy there is more for you to learn which will help improve what you do.

The incredible thing is your brain already knows exactly what to do. For example, if I ask you “Where did you get the shirt you are wearing as you read this?” Your brain probably knows what store, when, where, or that it was a gift. It won’t answer me by telling me you were abducted by aliens when you were a teenager or some other kind of frivolous answer.

It knows how to go after the class of information you present it with. And realize that I directed your mind with a question to the kind of information I was after. If others were listening to us as we spoke, their minds would be directed to where you got your shirt, as well. This is powerful to know although it may seem obvious.

So the key for your own personal improvement is asking yourself questions which lead your mind in useful directions. If you want positive results, you ask something like ‘How soon can I begin to discover the wonderful results I am already getting? And as I begin to notice those how many more can I discover that delight and amaze me?’ You would do the same if you were talking to, or writing to, another person.

Now let’s say you are selling another person a pen. And you ask, ‘Want to buy my pen?’ The person obviously can answer with ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Because the question you asked didn’t lead to further exploration. It lead only to a single “I want it” or “I don’t.”

But notice if you ask ‘Do you know how delighted you will be when you buy my pen?’ You aren’t directly asking them to buy it. (Well, in fact you are using another hypnotic pattern known as embedded commands). You are focusing them on something they can’t yet know the answer to: And that is the amount of delight they may experience.

I call this Mental Aikido. You side-step the issue of buying by focusing them on a positive attribute of owning the pen: the delight. So they can say ‘no, I don’t know how delighted I will be,’ in which case you have a door open to go ahead and demonstrate it for them.

Or they say ‘Yes I know how delighted I will be,’ and then they go to buy it. Or they give you further information that would be necessary for you to know to go ahead and make the sale. Any which way you cut it, you now have a powerful tool in your hands to help you influence and sell. Follow?

You can influence others by directing your own brain! In fact, when you learn how to direct your own brain and use its already existing features in a user friendly way, you will enjoy more influence, power and happiness in your life. That’s because you turn your brain into a powerful ally. And you certainly would want to do that, don’t you?

While this method ofDirected Questions™ is something I teach for incredible personal power and life enhancement, I thought you might be interested in a strategy for being able to get your readers to really respond to your hypnotic writing. So here is something else you can use to really add to your hypnotic writing abilities:

These next questions are ones to ask yourself to help you become more creative and begin to be able to paint word pictures for others, so they can readily see what it is you are talking about, so that they more readily feel like going ahead with what you propose.

The brain and eyes are wired together. This means that when we move our eyes we access certain portions of our brain. When we look up we mostly access the visual portions of the brain. When we look laterally side to side or down left we mostly access the auditory portions of our brain.

When we look down to the right we mostly access the kinesthetic or feeling portions of our brain. We actually access more than just these areas but we access these areas in greater portions when we move our eyes in this manner. Hence, we can learn to move our eyes systematically to gain greater access to the wonderful information stored in our brain.

Step 1. Look up (don’t move your head, just your eyes) and say ‘What do I want to show my readers?’ ‘What is it I want them to see clearly and how can I best get them to picture that in their mind?’ Spend a few seconds entertaining that question while looking up, entertaining how you can help your reader picture in their mind what it is you want them to see.

Step 2. Now move your eyes down to the left and ask ‘What is it I want them to say to themselves as they read it?’ and ‘How best can I tell them what it is I what them to really pay attention to?’ Again spend a few seconds in your own mind entertaining how you can best help your readers say those things to themselves that you would want them to say as they read your writing.

Step 3. Now move your eyes down right and ask ‘What is it I want them to feel as the read my writing?’ and ‘How best can I get them to have these feelings?’ And spend a few moments getting a grasp of what you want them to feel as they progress through your written material.

Once you have asked those questions, now take a short break and do something else for a little while. Let your unconscious mind work on it. I used to go watch TV and get caught up in a show. But soon I would find the wheels start churning, and I would hop over to the typewriter (in those days) and begin writing. Things began to flow.

If ever I got stuck, I simply asked the questions again and took another break. Later I would go back and edit and re-write the paper to polish it. But this unlocked the creative juices in a very particular and powerful way.

You ask yourself how you can show them in your writing, tell them and get them to feel in your writing. You can additionally ask ‘What is it I really need to say to get them to buy? What do they really need to know? How can I best word my letter to really get my points across? How soon can I find the words and ideas flowing through me in a way that amazes and delights me?’

Or ask any variation of those questions that leads you to the results you want. Then take a break and let your unconscious mind go to work. But remember to come back to the project after your unconscious has had a little time to work on it for you. Often I found that once, maybe two or three times, were necessary to get it the way I really wanted it.

Remember you want your reader to be able to picture themselves using your product. You want them to imagine what it would be like to have it or to miss out on it. You want to paint vivid detail in the mind’s eye of your reader to help them to have the feelings of wanting, desire, or need for your product. Or to feel that’s enough to stop whatever they are currently doing and follow through on what your proposal is.

You want them to say ‘yes’ inside their head and hear positive sounds and voices as they read through your letter. Yeah this is great, this makes sense, wow I can do this yes. And you want them to have the feelings of desire, certainty and taking action.

You really want to take them by the hand and walk them through this process. Combine this with your other hypnotic writing skills and you become a real powerhouse.

So remember to ask the questions which direct your mind to what you want your reader to see, hear and feel. Direct your reader to what you want to be able to show them, tell them and help make them feel. You do this by using questions to direct your mind to what you need to pay attention to first in order to influence some body else.

By previewing in your mind what you need them to see, hear and say, and feel to themselves, you can begin to paint pictures with your words that will get them excited about your product or service in a way that makes them feel they have to have it.

And this truly is hypnotic, isn’t it?

Stop Being A Wimp Start Being A Champion


“The very moment you begin to affirm who you are and what you are going to do you leave the victim role behind. When you positively declare, ‘I will make it so’, or ‘I am a powerful creator’ you step into your power. You stop being a wimp and start becoming a champion.

This is only the first step. You learn you are not helpless. You discover YOU CAN do things to make what you want happen. You claim your life, your abilities and your will power and begin to put them into action. You acknowledge your power and move forward.

That first step is incredible. It is life changing. It is magnificent! It is powerful BUT it is not enough. YOU MUST take the second step, and the third step. You will never get to your destination taking only a single step. You must continue on your journey. You must  continue.

Don’t Quit Suffer Now – Live The Rest Of Your Life As A Champion

You must persevere. Once you begin declaring your true power and ability to shape your destiny. Never, ever give up. Adjust, adapt, be flexible, make corrections AND continue. Don’t start the race if you don’t intend to cross the finish line. Keep doing. Keep on affirming.

The first step is life changing. So are all the other steps you will take. Sometimes it will be easy. Sometimes challenges will seem insurmountable. Correct and continue. Keep doing. Keep affirming. Keep declaring and using and wielding your positive power. ‘I am!’

Declare. Make your word the law! Claim your power and your authority and continue onward making positive changes for yourself and others. Make your life and the lives of those around you better. Help make the world a better, more enjoyable, positive place.

A Champion Is Someone Who Gets Up Even When He Can’t

You can do it. Fill you mind with positivity. Fill your heart with gratitude! Make each moment count. Stay optimistic. Know inside, deep inside, you can accomplish your dreams. Be passionate. Be clear. Be certain. Delight all along the way no matter what happens or doesn’t happen. Live fully and celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes

Expert Reveals: What You Do Now Determines Whether You’ll Be A Have Or A Have Not Person!

“Is there something that separates the successful from the not successful that can be defined? You bet there is! Is there something the successful do that non-successful don’t do? Again, yes! Are there things the successful don’t engage in that others  do? Absolutely!

The practices of the successful and the wealthy differ greatly from the practices of those who are not successful. Often, times people make lists of different activities for each to compare. What is first and foremost important is the differences in mindset!

The right mindset is critical. The wealthy and successful are not perfect. In some cases, far from it. What the wealthy and successful share in common is an unwavering faith that they will make happen what they want. They don’t doubt themselves. They believe!

Success Occurs When Your Dreams Get Bigger Than Your Excuses

They know they will prevail. They know where there is a will there is a way. They decide on what they want and they go for it full steam ahead. The gather their personal resources and those who can help them make it happen and they go after it optimistically.

They expect good to happen. They expect things to work out. They expect the best. They know it will happen. Whereas, other people worry things will sour and turn out badly the successful people know they can handle any obstacles. They keep the faith and forge ahead.

One cannot think  ‘yes but, it is difficult’ or ‘yes, but, I don’t have the money’ or  ‘what if it doesn’t work out’ or ‘what if I lose my screw up?’  ‘Yes, but’ and ‘what if’ are problem thinking. Typically, that thinking focuses on on the negative or what won’t work. Stop it!

The Price You Pay To Be Great At Something Is Repetition

To stay thinking on ‘what if’ keeps one focused on excuses and blames. The successful do not worry much about what ‘can’t be’ done because they are too busy making what ‘can be’ happen. The difference IS mindset. One is positive and powerful the other isn’t.

The successful maintain unshakeable faith in oneself and one’s abilities. To succeed that is required! We call these people successful because that is what they do. We call people who win lotteries or are born into something, lucky. Those who are successful are people who make it happen. They do it with what they have. They go for it!

Successful people focus on what they don’t want only long enough to clarify what they do want. They entertain what they ‘can do’ and don’t give time to what they ‘can’t do’ because they know we get what we focus on. They know if it is going to happen it will happen because of them. They know they have to do it to have it.

Change I Can’t Into I Can And Soon You’ll Say I Did

Many rich people may not be nice. There are plenty who are  be greedy, ruthless and will do almost anything to beat others to the profits.  Obviously,I don’t suggest you emulate any of those traits.  What one should emulate is the conviction ‘I will succeed!’

‘I can do it.’ ‘I will do it’. Then act. Move! Do something each day towards that end. Be proactive. Expect the best. When challenges arise handle them. Have no fear. Be relentless. Be happy and optimistic. Adopt the Nike motto and ‘just do it’.

Another aspect of the wealthy mindset we will explore soon is that they never concern themselves with how, only why. Once you learn this important principle you can begin getting better results. It is a distinction that makes a huge difference in the results you get.

A Positive Attitude Changes Everything

Right now, dedicate yourself to becoming a ‘can do’ person.  Develop the faith that you can learn to do anything you put your mind to and stick with. Napoleon Hill’s famous quote is ‘What you can conceive and believe, you can achieve.’ Your belief in you, is crucial.

I’ll leave you with a few quotes. ‘Any idea, or plan may be placed in the mind by repetition of thought.’ Napoleon Hill. This is how we come to think and believe everything. Repetition of exposure and repetition or action. Because this method worked we can use it!

‘Whatever we plant in our subconscious mind and nourish with repetition will one day become a reality.’ Earl Nightingale. We can change ourselves and the results we get this way, or we will keep on getting what we have been getting because of this.

Repetition Is The Mother Of Skill And The Key To Success

Either way the formula is powerful. ‘It is repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen.’ Claude M. Bristol We can affirm positive things OR we can affirm negative things and get those results.

Whatever we continuously affirm by repetition we get. Whatever we speak most about we end up with. Do you think I can or I can’t? Do you talk most about what you will make happen or about what happens to you? Are you focused on solutions or on problems?

Whichever is predominant in your mind is what you will get. The wealthy and successful focus on that which is supportive and gets them what they want. They believe in themselves and don’t worry about problems because they are too busy making it happen.

Your Attitude Not Your Aptitude Determines Your Altitude

So can you. Believe it. If you don’t already you can develop that strong belief. This is what you can AND must do. Begin today conditioning your mind for the positive and for success. Enjoy everything along the way. Make it happen.  Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes

Are You Up For A Challenge That Can Easily Transform How You Think And Live?

“Would you do something that could make a real difference for you in your life? Do you want to think, feel better and enjoy more? Are you up for a challenge? It will help you create  concentration, focus, energy and momentum. Well, are you? It’s completely up to you.

If yes, then decide on a positive affirmation or a mantra. You know, a declaration. A positive assertion. Something simple, something short. Make it a positive phrase that makes you feel great and go ‘oh yeah’ when you say it or think it. See below for examples.

Make sure to pick a powerful, juicy one for yourself. One that you believe is possible; one you believe you can have. Pick the best one you can think of that makes you feel marvelous. Now, commit to saying it as many times as possible during the day and night.

Energy Flows Where Your Attention Goes

When you get up, before you leave bed, say it 10, or 25 times. While brushing your teeth, shaving, showering, or otherwise occupied continue to focus on it and repeat it. While safely driving. Any time you drive repeat it. Think It! Say It! Feel It!  Believe It! Become It!

Say it out loud with great enthusiasm as often as you can each  day. Set a timer on your phone if you need a reminder. Before bed say it as much as you can prior to falling asleep. When with others at home or work silently repeat to yourself.

Do it. Again and again and commit to no fewer than 7 days. If you really want to give it a powerful go make it no fewer than 30 days. Pick one powerful affirmation and recite it with positive feelings as often as you can for at least the next seven to thirty days.

You Become What You Think About

Concentrate on your one idea as much as you can. If, during this time, you become aware of thinking neutral or less than glorious thoughts, shift to your mantra. The goal is to constantly occupy your thoughts with it. Stop neutral or less than glorious thinking.

Feel great repeating your mantra. Emotions are what make the affirmations work. Merely reciting anything without emotion is practically meaningless. Put some real juice or ‘omphh’  into this. The military makes use of repetition and strong emotions. You can too!

Imagine you are impressing this thought on your subconscious. You want it to grab hold of this positive message and ‘get it’. You deliver this message by repeating it as often as you can or will with positive emotions. Keep at it and your subconscious mind can and will get it.

What You Focus On Expands 

Chose an affirmation that makes you feel great. Such as, ‘I am awesome’. ‘I am unstoppable’. ‘I am powerful’. ‘I feel confident’. ‘I easily clean the house.’ ‘It is easy to find ways to make extra money’. ‘I am able to look people in the eye when speaking with them’.

‘I feel marvelous.’ I can eat healthy foods and feel great.’ ‘I can grow my business.’ ‘I feel marvelous’. ‘I am healthy.’ ‘I am rich in many ways’. ‘I have plenty of money’. Create your own. Make sure you feel it positively and you honestly believe it. Start with that in mind.

To boost its power imagine yourself, see yourself, already being or doing or having the good you desire. Take some time to visualize while you chant it. 5 or more minutes. I do it while on the treadmill at the gym. I set a walking pace, hold on, close my eyes and do it.

What You Think About You Bring About

I walk and hold on so I am safe. Then I imagine what I want while repeating the mantra to myself. If I am on the treadmill for an hour I have now exercised my mind and my body. I enjoy doing this. I also do it with eyes open on the treadmill and vary the speeds.

Do it for no less than 7 days. Honestly, commit to it. There is much you can discover about yourself by putting this into practice. You may be quite amazed. Feel free to keep it going longer. Become attuned or aware of new possibilities while taking this challenge.

If, after a while, or a few days, you feel like tweaking your mantra go ahead. If you feel you’d be better off changing it to one you believe more or feel better about go ahead. Make whatever adjustment you need to make it stronger. Begin the challenge over from that point.

What You Say Is What You Get

There is more to discuss, but nothing else you need. Think it as often as you can. See it. Speak it. Declare it. Feel good. Fill as much time as you can with this thought and positive feelings over the seven day period. Enjoy it. Stay open to discovery and enjoy it. You will!

The Power In Positivity Is Immense: Don’t Miss Out!

“Pretend for a moment that the Law Of Attraction is absolutely valid. Imagine this IS how everything operates. You get what you spend most of your time thinking about or dwelling on. If it is positive you get back the positive. If it is negative you get back the negative. What if the universe works this way? Would you do it?

If there was only a 50/50 chance the Law Of Attraction is real wouldn’t you prefer to err on the positive. Wouldn’t you want to get the positive back instead of the negative? It takes no more energy to think positive than it does to think negative. Wouldn’t you want to get what you want instead of what you don’t want?

What You See Is What You Get

Why not decide for what feels best? Why not do whatever it takes to create the most enjoyable life and positive circumstances you are able to? That makes sense, right? Yet, people whine and complain that positive thinking is too hard. They complain their life sucks. The choice one has to make; Live a suck life or make it better!

If life sucks because you think positive thinking is too hard, or you think it doesn’t work, what are you left with? You don’t like where you are at. BUT In order to have something different you must DO something different. You can’t continue the same ole way and expect it to be something else. That is craziness! It doesn’t work.

What You Say Is What You Get

Positive thinking is about thinking good and feeling good. It is seeking the best in situations. It is believing the best about yourself, others and the world. It seems that, in and of itself, is incredibly valuable. It seems to me, for this reason alone it is worth doing. Start thinking positive and discover the power. Affirm the positive.

When you master the art of controlling your thinking; when you are able to aim it and direct it you are able to make your future wants a reality. To Have Anything You Want In Life You Must Do This!

“Einstein purportedly said, ‘The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.’

However, it appears the quote actually belongs to Bob Samples, reflecting on ideas expressed by Einstein. We know Albert highly regarded the intuitive mind. He valued imagination over logic in many, many ways.

It may be that Samples was paraphrasing János Plesch who said, “When I examine myself and my methods of thought I come to the conclusion that the gift of fantasy has meant more to me than my talent for absorbing positive knowledge.’

If You Can Dream It You Can Be It

Einstein, did apparently say, at another time, ‘And certainly we should take care not to make the intellect our god; it has, of course, powerful muscles, but no personality. It cannot lead, it can only serve; and it is not fastidious in its choice of a leader.’

Okay, I have tried to provide some historical background for the sake of accuracy. Just a smidgen. I like the first quote whether brilliant Albert said it or not. I think there is much value in it. It may have been Bob Proctor who stated, ‘We look at the report card and let it control what we are like.’ I agree with this assessment too.

While we are all somewhat different on the outside, and from varied backgrounds, and individual programming and conditioning through environmental factors people are very much the same inside. Our conscious minds differ but our subconscious minds work the same.

What You See (Inside) Is What You Get

We have been conditioned or trained to use our senses to approach the world and believe that our senses don’t lie. In fact they do. Not just a little bit but a lot. Still, we believe them. We look at the world and think the world is what we see. We look at the report card and declare it so.

The fact is, everything originates within us. It is from within that we look out at the world. We have been trained to do it backwards and that is why we encounter so much difficulty being and doing and having what we want. It is from within that we make things happen.

This is why attitude and mindset determine how far one gets in life. This is why what we think is what we get. Because if we can’t think it, if we don’t conceive of it, we won’t ever know or imagine it is possible. It will be outside the range of our choices. It starts inside!

What You Say (To Yourself) Is What You Get

This is why if you focus on poverty it is unlikely you get rich. If you focus on disease it is unlikely you get well. If you focus on hate and violence it is unlikely you will have harmony and peace. What you focus on determines what you get. It begins on the inside of us.

Instead,  people look at their bank accounts and fear they won’t be able to make ends meet. That then becomes their destiny. They have decided they are stuck there and they can’t see a way out. AND THEY ARE CORRECT in that assessment. They will remain stuck.

BECAUSE that is what they are focused on. In order to get out of it you have to envision the way out of it. You need to imagine first the better life and focus on the better life. You have to imagine what you want day in and day out not what you do not want.

Declare It! Command It! Be In Charge! And So It Is

When you imagine clearly what you want you tell your subconscious mind what you want it to work on. You tell it to problem solve for you. You tell it to get to work creating the means by which you can have what you desire. When combined with strong positive emotion it will do as you tell it to.

OTHERWISE it will continue to create the means to keep you poor. BECAUSE that is what you tell it to do when you focus on being and by feeling poor. When you feel really badly about something you are telling your subconscious to give you more of that. This IS HOW it works. Your feelings and thoughts run the show.

The outer circumstances don’t dictate to us what the world is like we create our outer circumstances. What we think and how emotionally charged we are thinking about it determines what we get back. We determine our circumstances. I’m not suggesting that people born to poverty or in the ghetto. There are.

If It Is To Be It Is Up To Me

But there are those who don’t let their birth conditions rule their life, and there are those who do let it rule them. The difference is not in the birth conditions but in how one thinks about them. Some see them as the end point. ‘I was born poor I will always be poor.’ Yes, then they will always be that way.

Another uses the very same conditions as a launching pad to leave the conditions of birth behind. It is our thoughts that make the difference not what is going on around us. Millionaires and billionaires are made when the economy is good or when it is bad.

There are people born well who blow it. They become alcoholics, disturbed, or worse. They’re bred into the finest conditions but it is what they do within that determines what they make of it. It is NOT the outer world that makes us who we are. It’s OUR inner world. We become who we decide to become! It is always our choice!

Attitude Determines What You Do Or Don’t Do

Attitude determines whether you will or you won’t. ‘Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you are right’, said Henry Ford. ‘Imagination IS more important than knowledge,’ said Albert Einstein. We should honor the gift more than the servant. Use the inner to create the outer how you want it to be.

Within these blog pages, I have shared with you, in various ways, repeatedly, what you can do to live the good life IF you want that. Everything you need to live it is already within you. You simply have to tap into it! You only have to access you inner resources. You don’t have to be a victim of circumstances you can live as a victor, a winner and a champion.

You can be, do and have anything you think yourself into. Whatever the predominant thoughts are in your mind day and night is the world you create around yourself and for you. Circumstances are a reflection of what is going on inside you. From within to without.

If you don’t like your circumstances change your thinking about them. Dictate what the circumstances will be and YES your life will change. YOU be in charge. TAKE CONTROL! Become the captain of your soul and the master of your fate. Learn how to control your thinking and you will learn how to have anything you want in life!” Rex Sikes

Breaking News! Success Won’t Make You Happy But This Will!


“Breaking news! Success won’t make you happy. Wait, there is more. Borne out by science and decades of research; Success won’t make you happy BUT happy can make you successful! Yes, again, I repeat, happiness leads to success. Happiness leads to success!

From ancient times until now it has been pointed out that happiness and positive thinking and optimistic thinking is healthy and leads to better health, wealth, and abilities. Happiness makes you better at what you do and makes what you do much easier. Sadly, most people, through the centuries, got it backwards.

Sadly, people believe the right job or success, the right partner or mate,  money or things would make them happy. They thought happiness came as a result of something else happening first.

Sad again. They only discovered that they delayed feeling good, if at all, and that even acquiring many things still left them feeling empty. It is because IT really is the other way around! It IS the other way!

It is time to straighten everyone out. The happier you are the healthier you tend to be. Happiness affects your health, your well-being, you ability to handle or process stress, your thinking and clarity and your productivity. The happier you are the more you can accomplish.

Happiness Is Its Own Reward And Has Multiple Benefits

Since the early 80’s I have been teaching workshops pointing out that by practicing happiness and positivity you could develop new neural pathways.You could develop wonderfully supportive habits, live more delightfully, successfully and happily, easily and nearly effortlessly.

You could open up your neurology to be capable of evolving yourself in positive ways. I suggested you could create positive habits which would positively serve you.

In my workshops we practice daily gratitude, asking positive directed questions, smiling more, laughing meditation, feeling good and accessing wonderful and powerful resource states, imaging a better future, scanning for positive and new moments each day and more. A lot more. But these were core rituals or practices.

We had rituals we did each class session and each day. I pointed out that making a habit requires a minimum of 21 days repeated practice or rehearsal. What people began as practice during my  10 or 14 day programs they were encourage to continue back home.

Habits Come From Rituals And Rituals Become Habits

Rituals are things we do everyday. For some people that includes hygiene, brushing teeth and washing. We eat, sleep, go to school or work. We may read the paper or get online. Have a cup of coffee. There are things we do regularly each and every day; sometimes multiple times throughout the day.

Spaced repetition builds habit. Correct spaced repetition builds reliable skill. Reading instructions doesn’t change you but implementing what the instructions tell you to do can change you. This is why I suggest doing these practices as often as possible each day.

I called it rehearsal, from my acting background, or the kind of conditioning athletes go through or practice professional sports teams undergo to build reliable skill sets for performance.

Create The Happiness Habit

I was harshly criticized in a number of books and publications as promoting pseudoscience and pie in the sky thinking. I was even accused (rightly) of utilizing the placebo effect.

How cool of me! Then again, they scoffed because I told people we could deliberately utilize the placebo effect. Some finally are catching on. Some Psychologists, as are scientists, catching up.

I and others pointed to things like ‘mirror neurons’ prior to their discovery. We knew through mediation, rapport studies, and other practice that many things were ‘contagious’. Smiling, rapport, happiness, peace, relaxation are infectious.

One person, neurologically, can affect another. Large groups practicing the meditation or laughter or peace have a dynamic, synergistic effect and affect others, even those not practicing. Hooray, some are finally catching on! Not nearly enough though.

Decades later research has verified what I knew back then, and far greater minds than mine have known for centuries. The better you feel the better you do. I repeat. The better you feel the better you do. Happiness leads to success and not the other way around.

Happiness is a choice! Practice feeling better a little bit each day. By practicing daily you eventually make it a reliable habit AND grow new neural pathways and connections thereby overall evolving yourself!!! Research Neuroplasticity and evolving your brain.

Here is the rub with science. IT is usually behind not ahead except for some cases. Scientific testing works this way to test a theory. Scientists make a claim, or stated hypotheses.

Happiness Is A Choice

Then they try to disprove the hypothesis. If it can’t be disproved it is accepted as the best theory you currently have for explaining what is going on. In research validation, they seek independent replication of results.

Science takes time to verify and establish new theories and validate. Not all science is equal, nor is it all good, nor is testing or reporting or publishing or disseminating the findings reliable or always upright.

BUT STILL much of science is what we hope it to be. Rigorous and trustworthy. OPEN and flexible. Because science is supposed to update theories, as better explanations become available, through testing.

Choose To Be Happy And You Will Be

There are many abstracts citing the research and conclusions. You can look them up. Look up topics such as happiness, optimism, placebo, overcoming depression naturally, mindfulness, meditation, relaxation, mirror neurons,  etc.

There are many, MANY, books written citing the research in health, healing, attitude, psychology, meditation, spirituality. One I want to refer you to (not only because it concludes and incorporates many of the practices that I and others have taught for many years but) because they really delved into researching the topic.

You can read Shawn Anchor’s findings and the research conclusions in The Happiness Advantage: The Seven Principles of Positive Psychology That Fuel Success and Performance at Work. He has since published other books. Available at amazon. Check out the research and the results.

Why Would You Ever Choose To Not Be Happy

If you aren’t going to read it then at least stay tuned to this blog. I will bring you the latest and greatest as well as the oldest and the tried and true.

HAPPINESS is something that you can have more of anytime. If you do certain things you are guaranteed to become happier. It can be as easy as a couple minutes spent daily.

While, it probably won’t occur overnight it will occur in time as you stick with it. One of the greatest life transforming things you can do, is to practice gratitude. Feel gratitude, live it daily.

In my workshops I had people create list of 25 things they were grateful for each night. Shawn has them do as few as three every day. Something so simple can be so profound.

We’ll discuss more. We have happiness, beliefs, and a number of topics currently in play here. So keep reading and re-reading. Most importantly, begin doing, if you haven’t already, and keep doing.

Use The Science Of Your Mind To Get What You Want

“Do you want your life to be easier and more hassle free?  Would you like to enjoy more of the good things life has to offer? Wouldn’t it be nice to have fewer speed bumps, but if you must have some, to be able to navigate around them smoothly? Do you want to learn how to be able to be, do and have anything you want in life?

Do you want to attract good things to you? Then you must learn how to deliberately create. You must begin to practice Intentional Thinking. It is by your intentions, your design, your deliberate, predominate thoughts that you can make positive things happen.

‘If we can conceive it’, meaning, if we can intentionally create it in our minds; if we can fully visualize and realize it inside our mental movie theater and affirm it to ourself in our self-talk and discussions daily, so that we come to ‘believe it’, and expect it to happen without doubting, ‘we can achieve it’.

In upcoming  posts I’ll share more and we will explore how to do this. Together we will put the science of your mind power to work for you. You will learn more and understand more so you can do more. Keep in mind learning about it by reading and actually doing it are two very different things.

All You Have To Do Is Convince Yourself Of It In Your Mind

IF you want enduring success then you must put into practice what you are learning. You must use it. You can read about building a house without ever having built one. That is what too many people do. We are going to build one, so to speak.

If you will commit to using these principles without fail you will transform your life in miraculous ways!

If you want a body builder’s body you must exercise, eat right and get the proper amount of rest. You wont change anything unless you first change something. Everything will stay the same, as it is, if you don’t implement these practices. You must do the work to get the benefits. Remember that! More next time” Rex Sikes

How To Manifest What You Want With Ease

“How do you manifest? How do you make it work? Are questions I am asked often.  It really is simple. The first and most important part to becoming someone who deliberately manifests is to realize you already are manifesting everything in your life. You are complicit.

Many people don’t know this and others refuse to take responsibility. They have been brought up believing that others and circumstances dictate their experience. They put the power outside them instead of within them. The fact is everything originates within.

Once you realize everything you have and don’t have is completely up to you, once you take responsibility for creating EVERYTHING in your life you can turn your attention toward creating only what you want. After all, this is what you want: to get what you want, right?

That realization is freeing! It is critical. Nothing exists without you being party to it. Without you creating it, bringing it about or allowing it to happen. EVEN if it were not true, operating as if it were, brings you freedom and gives you tremendous latitude and power as a deliberate creator.

The first steps are: Determine what you want to manifest. See my last posts. Put it out there. I want this to appear within (state time frame) hours from now. Then expect it. You want to even see yourself getting it. Imagine it coming to you. Act as if you already have it.

Stay positive. Don’t doubt or lose faith. If you catch yourself doubting switch back to believing. You want to stay positive and you want to be a good receiver You want to accept and allow it. Feelings are important. Feel good about it. If you don’t stop and pick something you do feel good about.

Don’t try to dictate the terms of its arrival. Be willing to be open and surprised. Then stay open, wait expectantly, like waiting for holiday goodies. Watch or look for it.  Open your mind don’t close it. Remain open and available.

Feel the enthusiasm, the eagerness, the anticipation. Remember, what it was like as child when a holiday was coming and you new you were getting something special. Live the feelings of having it already! Wrap yourself in wonderful feelings.

You are building a muscle, a skill and a mind set. You are building a new habit for winning. The more you do this the easier it gets. Here is the point and the great news: IF you were never, to ever manifest anything at all, EVER, AND that is truly, unlikely, but if you never did, you still will benefit by this practice. AND that is the down side!

YOU benefit by determining what you want. You benefit by practicing clarifying your desires. You benefit by developing faith and staying expectant and positive. You benefit by learning to concentrate your attention and focus your energies and your mind.

You get great benefit in learning these things. You benefit by learning to be a good receiver. You benefit from learning to steer out of negativity back to the positive. You benefit from allowing and celebrating all of these are incredible skills to develop for yourself.

So even the down side has an upside. Start small and build you way up. It is difficult for some people to succeed if they cannot believe they will make it happen.

If you choose something too big at first and think it unlikely, or it doesn’t feel like you can make it happen then pick something as small and common as necessary to feel like it is possible. Get it?

Remember, feelings always run the show. The better you feel the better life gets. You vibrate higher positive energy and radiate it everywhere when you feel your best. Finally, you celebrate and are delighted. Another great benefit.

So to start off learning to deliberately manifest. Take the X hour challenge. Determine, specifically, something easy enough to manifest but worthwhile enough to enjoy and be passionate about.

Give yourself a time frame within which to operate. I mentioned this before. Then claim it. I want X by X. Then believe it and expect it and watch for it. Don’t force it or go out of your way to make it happen just do what you do while expecting it. Allow for it. Be open for it.

Receive it and celebrate when it appears. It seems like magic but it isn’t. This is rooted in science. Your brain is working on it, finding it or helping you create it. So allow it and don’t interfere with it. If you don’t get it, keep the faith and try again. Make whatever adjustments necessary. You will, if not the first time, you will.

As you do this enough and you manifest larger things you won’t be surprised about getting them because you will have learned to accept and respect your abilities.  You know and expect it to occur anyway. You will still be delighted and celebrate.

It’s like your birthday. You know it is coming. You aren’t surprised that it arrived. Still you can be delighted and celebrate it when it does. Knowing it is going to happen doesn’t lessen the celebration.
