What Do You Want And Need Most?

horizons cat tails

“On the road to making our dreams come true we sometimes hit snares or get caught up in problems and issues. It would be wonderful, would it not, if we could more simply move through these tough times? It would be great to have help and support, right?

What issues keep you captive? Where do you get stuck that you’d like to change? What do you need to know, want to know, need to do that will help you get through the tough times? How can I help you accelerate your progress?

Yesterday was my 400th consecutive blog post. I thought I’d celebrate a little bit by taking a break. Not a rest but a moment to say thanks for reading and sharing. THANKS!!!!

THANKS FOR READING AND SHARING!!!

More than anything I hope you find value in these pages. My life has been so transformed in incredible ways because of the practices and principles I practice, write about and share here.

Most of them are not new. Most are not mine. Some are. They have either been around almost for ever or re-emphasized in one way or another in the past couple of centuries. Regardless, they are powerful. My goal is to simplify and illuminate these.

Yet, it seems success using them may be elusive at times for some of us. Some people gravitate to them and seemingly make them work instantaneously. Others, seem to have more trouble. I want to assist both or all types of people on this path make them work for.

Plus, I really hope to help those who seem to have trouble because I certainly did. I understand it when it is difficult or when you don’t seem to get the results you want fast enough. I really do.

I am a powerful creator. Took me a long time to realize that. Most of what I created for many years was the opposite of what I wanted. I was incredibly skilled at getting precisely what I did not want. It took me a long time to figure that out and begin to change it.

We Are Powerful Creators And The Results We Get We Created

One of the most profound insights I can share is that it is all a process. We are all a process. Life is a process. Everything is a process or in process. I said it a bunch of times what do I mean?

I mean rarely do we see it or get it all at once. Information comes to us in a trickle or bit by bit. We can’t see the conclusion or around the corner or the forest for the trees. So whenever we get upset, discouraged or lost we do so on limited information.

We only see a part of the picture at a particular time. We never see the whole thing at once. Or very rarely do we. Because of this we act on incomplete information. Imagine if your GPS only had part of the directions to where you want to go.

Things will change. No matter what they will change. Better or worse and most usually for the better. We just forget that much of the time because of where we place our attention. AND that is the big point.

Where we place our attention while in this process is what we pay attention to! Since we can’t pay attention to everything WHAT we pay attention to IS critical!

Since we don’t have all the info it is too easy to get caught up and lost in details that drag us down. We have to remember we are in a process! We can place our attention any where we choose. This is a major point. We choose!

Keep It In Mind: Everything Is A Process – We Are In Process

This simple, but not always easy act, makes a helluva a difference for us. Often, it means the difference between great suffering or great blessing. It is the meaning behind ‘we get what we focus on’ AND ‘we become what we think about.’

What we think about we bring about. What we hold in our head we will some day hold in our hand. From within to without.

Okay, enough for now.

I wanted to say I hope you find value here. If you do I hope you make your lives everything you want them to be. You can, you know! Plus, I hope you help others do the same. A great way to get is to give.

I always enjoy comments but I want to make a special request.

If there is anything you want to discuss, or anything I can share, or anything you want to know more about please post comments or questions. Let me know what is important to you.

Share With Me In Comment Section What You Want And Need

If I know about it I can discuss it. If I don’t, maybe I can find out for you. I really want to know what is pertinent to you. I want to help you have more successes. Please, also share your success that can help others!

I want to work with you on making your dreams come true. I want to help see you through your difficulties. Which areas do you need to read about more? How can I better serve and help you?

How can I make what I share really valuable to you? What do you want and need? I want to deliver as best as I am able. So I really want to hear from you.

Together We Can Make Your Dreams Come True

Then over time and in these pages I can address these areas. We can even discuss in the comment sections. So let me know, okay?

The new blog site is coming soon. I hope you will enjoy it and stay with us in transition. For now, thanks for everything. And please tell me how I can best meet your needs and what you want to know.

Help me help you make your dreams come true! You can do it. You will do it! Exploration is the doorway to adventure! Keep the faith.” Rex Sikes

Enjoy your day!

How To Stop Living Like A Beggar And Start Living Like An Emperor!

horizons green clouds and grass sun

“Can you imagine the emperors of old. They were in charge. They had the power. They commanded and others obeyed. Can you imagine what it would be like to be an emperor? If you could command it and your words would be carried out. That would be pretty cool, wouldn’t it?

So what is stopping you? Think about that for a moment. What prevents you from living as an emperor? Yes, yes, I know those days are gone. I mean, why don’t you act like the emperor you already are? You do know that’s what you are don’t you?

Who Is In Charge

I mean, either you are in charge of you OR you are not. Either you are the emperor, the controller, the ruler of your own being or you are not. So which is it? Either you command things to happen or you hope they will.

When you hope you are really a beggar. You are hoping someone, something will be kind. You hope and pray things will work out but you don’t really know. All power is outside of you. Others have the power you have to beg to get their scrapes. Is this you? I hope not!

Live Like An Emperor. Stop Living Like A Beggar. Live as a champion. Walk and breath as a winner.

Stop whining, sniveling, begging, hoping, wishing, comparing and complaining. Stop worrying about your career, your relationships, your money, your life.  It isn’t helping anything so give it a rest!

No Whining Stop Worrying

Let’s pretend all this Law Of Attraction quantum physics stuff is true. You are a creator you are one with the universe. You are an aspect of the divine, an expression, a fractal, part of the hologram in which all is contained.

You are responsible for everything. You, your atoms, have been here since the beginning of time. You are one with everything.

This universe is as much yours as you belong to it. SO for goodness stake stop begging and hoping and wishing that you get some good part of it. Demand it and expect it. You create all of it. Create what you want.

Make it happen. You are responsible for all good things. So make sure YOU get some of them for yourself. All the other stuff I write about patience and kindness and going first, allowing and accepting and forgiving still applies. You are a benevolent Emperor!

It Is Your Decision And No One Else’s

It is all part of the whole and the whole is in each part. Stop acting like change comes from outside of you.

Everything necessary for having what you want is already in you. Exercise it! Use it. Claim it. Stop expecting something from the outside to grant your wish.

Grant your own wish! MAKE it happen. After all, that is WHO is making it happen anyway? Speak it into being! Think it into being! Your thoughts create your reality. Create the results you want!

While ancient texts, and new thought leaders and people like Neville and Hill and Wattles and current gurus all proclaim the Law Of Attraction realize YOU are the magnet in your own playground.

Stop creating division and become whole. Be congruent. Become one. Hill emphasized that YOU need to know what you want.  Make it a burning passion and desire. Have faith. Go for it and don’t stop!

Know What You Want And Go For It

Do whatever you have to, in positive ways. Co-operate with others, for the best for everyone, and you will get want you want if you never give up.

He didn’t say it would physically materialize over time.  No one said the atoms would magically assemble in the environment until it physically manifests while you meditate and chant,

Stop comparing and wondering if it will happen. Decide it will happen. Do everything to make it happen. YOU do it. You create it You attract it. Demand it of yourself and stop hoping somehow it will come together if you are just good enough.

MAKE it happen. YOU make it happen. Believe in yourself. When you understand you are responsible you can get out of your own way. Become congruent. Align your desires with your intentions and get what you want.

Stop Comparing Stop Wondering

Stop the self-sabotage. Stop wondering ‘if’ it will happen. Put an end to the pleading. When you do these things you will stop being a victim and become a victor. You will take charge as you should You should be the person in control. Where there is a will there is a way.

Okay, NOW let’s imagine the LOA is a crock. It is BS. It is a fairy tale and none of it works. The same principles apply. You make it happen. No one else will but you. If you are going to get your goals it will be completely your responsibility.

Stop sniveling and whining and hoping and wishing. Stop doubting and fearing and worrying and comparing. Pull yourself up. Set your attitude right. Get it straight and keep it that way.

Know what you want. Make it a burning desire. Keep working it until you succeed. You will if you never give up. Either way it is up to you.

Attitude Is Everything

Make all your  goals and dreams come true. Go after it the way a champion athlete prepares for the Olympics.

Dedicate yourself. Have the right mind set, get the right coaching you need and train yourself to win. Keep going and don’t quit. No excuses. No reasons. No Blames. Live as an Emperor. Command yourself. Demand of yourself. Expect yourself to follow through. And Do it!” Rex Sikes

How I Overcame A Life Crisis And Made Life Wonderful

horizons dirt road blue sky

“If you have read my previous two blog posts on How to Get Through Any Difficulty and Past Any Limitations you know the answer to how you can transform positively and more quickly.

I continue to share more of the refinements and back story you can use to change more readily and easily.

This is Part 3 continued from How To Get Through Any Difficulty.

I kept repeatedly asking questions. I kept asking better and better questions, improving on them, tailoring them until I experienced changing and more relief. Soon, I began to notice myself growing in confidence and well being.

Keep The Positive Direction In Mind

I found myself though trial and error asking a better quality of questions. My questions became more more powerful and efficient. For example, instead of asking, ‘how long’ something would take I asked ‘how soon’ or ‘how quickly’ it would occur.

I asked, ‘how easily’ I might notice new things, or make changes, or direct my attention in positive ways.  I got clearer in my mind. I stopped  focusing on what I didn’t want.

I was becoming focused on what I did want. I focused on what I DID want to see, hear and feel. I concentrated on thoughts and behaviors that were positive, good and ultimately glorious.

I focused on feeling confident. I aimed my mind. I didn’t focus on the weakness I was overcoming  or insecurity but on feeling strong and confident already. I learned not to put it off but to think it now.

I did not say things such as, ‘I wonder how soon before I am not feeling insecure?’ You do understand why this is a poor question. If I say don’t think of a blue elephant what do you do?  If I say, ‘not insecure’ the same thing happens.

The brain doesn’t think in terms of ‘not’ or ‘don’t.’ I didn’t want to be asking ‘I wonder how soon before I am insecure?’ That is how the brain handles a negative. It drops it out. You have to say precisely what you want. You have to aim it towards what you DO want.

Use Positive Phrasing To Say What You Want

My direction changed from,’ I don’t want to, or I no longer want to feel this or that’ to ‘I want to be more confident and powerful. I want to think more positive. I want to see opportunity.’

‘I want to notice the good things in me and the world.’ ‘ I want to tell myself things and always speak nicely to me.’ ‘I want to be kind to me.’ ‘l want to be more loving and accepting.’

‘I not only want to discover these more fully but to experience and live these moment to moment.’  I asked how I could feel wonderful, powerful, delighted.  What I would notice or find and discover and be.

Soon I was asking, ‘How quickly will I discover how incredible it is to live each moment more fully and feel totally alive?’ I had no mental answers for any of it. I was learning there were word tricks that made things more powerful.

For example, I could live life ‘fully’ or I could live life ‘more fully’. Do you get the difference. The first one suggests I will arrive somewhere. The second one suggests I am already living fully and can add to that enjoyment by living more fully.

Another simple example is I could make changes OR I could ‘readily’ make changes. Another one is; I could ‘easily’ make changes. There are many ways to spice up the questions we ask ourselves to make them much more powerful.

Learn To Enjoy Life More and More

I wasn’t asking to get answers. Okay, well, some aspect of me still held out hope that she and I would get back together and I did want to know how soon and what to do to make that happen.

Mostly, however, I was in a process of transforming myself and discovering all the good things about me I didn’t know previously.

Around 5 almost six weeks after I first sat down I left my chair.  I faced the world. It wasn’t a powerful bursting onto the scene. It wasn’t lightening and thunder and trumpets announcing my return.

I felt pretty good yet, was still a bit apprehensive, I wasn’t sure of everything but I was a heck of a lot better off than I was in that chair. I was far better than living the events that led up to being in that chair. I was a world away from the trauma.

Eventually, she and I ended up face to face. It wasn’t ever going to be the same. We tried being friends. It wasn’t going to work. I was still pretty upset at the demise of our relationship and what had happened to me that started everything off.

Asking The Right Questions Is A Skill For Life

BUT I had learned I could ask questions to direct my mind. I had a new ability. I had a powerful new skill I could immediately use any place and time. I could use it with anyone and for anything. I was feeling better and getting some pretty strong results.

So I continued to ask questions. What almost happened, and I am so glad it didn’t, was that the method I discovered to rescue myself, I nearly treated as a life preserver.

Said differently. I could have used this to bail me out of a crisis situation and then left it behind as I moved into new things. Fortunately, I didn’t. I realized it was a skill for life.

I could have used it to stay alive and then move on. Had I done that nothing would have really changed. In real life you don’t carry the life preserver with you. That would be like carrying your sack of belongings.

Had we got back together it’s probable I wouldn’t have learned to transform my life. Maybe, I would have gone through something else. Who knows? I might have recovered, gone on as the same person, a bit better off but the same.

Sooner or later something else would have most likely occurred again that would put me back in a similar hell.

Use Questions Anytime Anywhere For Anything

Instead of abandoning the questions that got me to face the world I found I could ask them for all facets of my life. I could use them daily to make life better. I could use them to ease disappointment. I could use them to direct my attention to solutions instead of problems.

The best thing that happened, for me,  was we did not resume a relationship. Of course, I can say that now. Because we didn’t get back together I had to deal with it. I had to continue the process I learned in the chair.

I sat in the chair asking questions so that I could face the girl and the world. Now I had to ask questions to get along in the world without the girl. While it was difficult I now had a method for moving on forward instead of remaining stuck.

That terrible period of time lasted more than a year. I know it was the best thing that could have happened to me, ultimately. I am one of those who can look back and say, ‘had it not been for that crisis I would not have the wonderful life I have now. I am so grateful! Life really is good!!

End Chronic Negative Thinking

You can change more easily and powerfully than you might presently imagine. You may not think you are able because for many years you have thought the way you have. That’s just habitual or chronic thinking. You have been conditioned to not think it would be easy.

You can change your thoughts and you can change yourself. You can learn new habits, as I did in that chair, that will transform you. I learned the habit of asking questions. It replaced some old negative habits. You can learn too. Make positive questions a habit for you.

You can transform old and current wounds into opportunities and great possibilities. You can. You really truly can! BUT YOU have to decide to. It is up to you and no one else but you.

Everything can work out for the best! You have to give it a chance. You have to create that opportunity.

Organize your life around making the change. Ask yourself questions to direct your mind in positive ways. You don’t have to sit in a chair or isolate yourself.

You just add them in bit by bit until it is the preponderance of what you are thinking? Day by day, step by step you get closer.

You won’t though if you don’t take the first step.  You have to take the first step! Then keep taking more steps one at a time.

The Quality Of Your Life Is Determined By The Quality Of Your Questions

After my relationship and later encounters with the woman, who at that time was,’the love of my life, the woman of my dreams’ I realized I didn’t want her. She was fine person but not for me.

Why, I originally wanted her and the relationship  had little to do with her anyway. It fulfilled me. That isn’t meant to be a statement about her at all. She was and is a fine person.

I discovered that I wasn’t  loving her for her. I was loving her for me. While this made me feel good while we were together it wasn’t good for either of us.

It also really hurt me. It was not because of who she was or what she did. It wasn’t anything like that. It was because of the pre-existing holes in me when everything happened.

Anyway, time marched on. Life wasn’t perfect. It was life. I continued to ask questions and life improved and I moved forward. As I continued life did get better. Then, I noticed that with my improved attitude everything was much better. And then better again.

Eventually, I began sharing my process of questions with others. I sought out ways to present it in programs. I have been sharing it ever since. So many people have benefited from Directed Questions™.

I am sure there were people before me who discovered this in a similar way. Certainly, there have been a number who have come after me. I am not special.

Be Willing To Ask – Be Willing To Explore

In the worst moments of my life, when I seriously wanted to end it all, I found  a glimmer of light. I had determined that if I couldn’t get out of that chair then there would be no point to continue. I either did it or that would be where they would find me.

How do you think I feel now as a father of two of the most amazing children in my life? Do you think I am glad, at least a little bit, that I found a breakthrough? I am deliriously happy. Life is an incredible celebration and I am one of the luckiest people alive.

Sometime, I will share how a doctor nearly killed me. That was the event that led to all this.

Since that time nearly 40 years ago I have had other crisis situations. I’ve have had loss, death, disappointment, business go bust, divorce and minor and major upsets. We all do. The ocean is beautiful, calm and tumultuous at times. There are sunny days and stormy days.

Since learning to apply these questions and control and manage my thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs I have had much success, immense happiness and joy and I live and incredibly fulfilling life. It doesn’t matter what is going on outside of us what matters is what goes on inside us.

Take Control – Live As A Champion

You can discover more joy, love, peace, happiness and all good things when you dedicate yourself to you. Take control. Determine to be your own personal champion and live like it.

Take charge and live with passion.  Live with purpose. No one else can live it for you but you! If I can this so can you. You can improve your life.

Let go of the past, forgive yourself and others. Learn from it and then turn your back. Get into the now and live it fully. Have faith that tomorrow is going to be wonderful too.

Be grateful and live with gratitude. Feel it fully and bask in the wonderful feelings.

Ask questions, direct your mind. Affirm what you want. You become what you think about most during your day. So become glorious and positive and powerful. The future will be incredible. It all depends on what you do now. Begin today!” Rex Sikes

How To Get Through Any Difficulty!

horizons rolling hills and clouds

“Times may be difficult but did you know that transformation can be easy? It doesn’t have to be hard. Did you know that it can be fun too? Whether or not you read the preceding blog you are going to want to read these next two.

You can make changes more easily when you know what works and use it. Have you struggled for awhile? If so, it is time to utilize what works and transform your life. Wouldn’t you like to do that now? You can!

continued from previous blog: Use This Powerful Secret To Get Over The Past & Limitations. This is Part 2.

Send Your Brain On A Positive Search

When you do this repeatedly you are occupying your mind with positive powerful ‘things’ to search for. The brain works by searching and finding. The brain loves questions it doesn’t know the answer to because you aren’t forcing anything on it.

You are simply asking and the brain responds with, ‘I don’t know but I will go look!’ The brain never stops it runs on and on. So you want to fill it with positive and productive tasks to do that transform you will it is doing them. Get it?

The fancy word is Transderivational Search. Basically, it means a search for a broad match versus a specific or exact match or answer. It is an unconscious process, we all already do, in order to understand or make sense of language and communication.

Typically, when we ask a question we want or expect an exact answer. We ask, ‘where did you go?’  ‘What did you do?’ ‘Who are you?’ If we say, ‘what is for dinner?’  We don’t want someone to say food. So when I say ask yourself questions most people think I mean find an answer. I don’t

Bad Questions Produce Bad Results

When we ask of ourselves, ‘Why am I so stupid?’ The brain goes ‘let’s find out!’ Then it comes back with a host of answers. “When you were 4 you put your head in the toaster.’ ‘Your parents didn’t love you enough’. ‘You didn’t get to go to the right school.’ It goes on and on. That is its job. To find matches. Broad matches and it will find specific occasions.

When you ask a question like that and you get all those responses it is then easy to conclude, ‘I am stupid. I have always been stupid and will remain so. Look at all the bonehead things I have done. Why me? Why am I such a dope. Life sucks!’ Notice it spirals more and more into self pity, blame, hopelessness or despair.

We already do this. Some spend most of their time and their life doing this. Others occasionally, but the results are the same. The brain knows where to get the answers, the results are bad feelings and memories and reasons and self blame and criticism. It works reliably, automatically because it is a habit.

We Already Do This – Only Now – We Direct The Process

Why theseDirected Questions™ are powerful is because asking questions is what you and I already do. Only now, we ask them with intention. We actively direct them into areas we want to go into. We deliberately use them instead of being used by them.

I was in crisis when I was a young man. I was hurting badly. To say I was devastated and had bottomed out would be putting it mildly. I spent 6 months in utter turmoil with another in the gutter figuratively. At the point when I realized I must do something or die I made a decision to myself.

I vowed to not leave my apartment until I felt better.

I spent more than a month in a recliner chair in meditation and affirming and hoping and wishing. I got up to make something to eat and use the bathroom but I sat in the chair.

One day, I noticed I was asking myself questions such as, ‘Why did this happen to me?’ ‘Why me?’ ‘Why did she have to (do what she did)?’ ‘How come my life sucks?’

Determine Where You Want To End Up Then  Reverse Engineer

I used lots of expletives and wasn’t merely questioning I was suffering. ‘Why am I such an idiot?’ ‘How come no one understands me?’ Can’t they see I am hurting? and on and on.

All the while I was trying to affirm. Trying to white light the situation, pay attention to my breathing, watch my thoughts. My thoughts only seemed to bring me more and more pain and misery.

It was a terrible time. I had been through a really terrible year. I was once again at the end of my rope.

Believe me, when I say this was not the only time in my life when I did this. I remember running into the bathroom or bedroom as a child and crying and asking myself, ‘Why do I always cause my parents to fight?’ ‘Why am I so bad? ‘How come I am stupid?’

In my chair one day, and I do not know why or how, it occurred to me that I was asking questions that were hurting me more. I became aware of something. I noticed something for the very first time.

It wasn’t a flash of illumination but a slow and steady ‘dawning’. I began to slowly ask other questions like: ‘How might I begin to get over feeling bad?’ ‘How long will it take to feel confident again?’ ‘Will she and I get back together?’

‘What do I need to do and be like to win her back?’ ‘When will I be ready to face the world again?’ ‘What do I need to be able do that?’ I asked other questions, too, for certain.

Drop By Drop Fills The Tub

I began to replace the questions that made me feel bad with questions that gave me a bit more hope. It wasn’t all in one fell swoop but gradually the questions I asked became better more useful questions.

The more I replaced the bad ones with better ones the little bit better I eventually began to feel. I mean, I really did inch along. The mere inch created a glimmer. Just a glimmer but a glimmer of hope.

Notice my questions actually still started off on the problem.  I was focused  how long it would take to begin to be different and I was still focused on the problem.

BUT at least it was the first move in a better direction.  Within a few week or maybe two weeks I began to ask even better questions.

‘How soon might I start feeling better?’ ‘What will I have to do to notice things improving?’ ‘Where should I, can I place my attention to notice myself feeling better?’ ‘How much better can I feel?

‘How soon can I begin to feel confident again? ‘How good will I feel when my life is back together?’ “When I feel confident how will I most notice it? Where will I feel it in my body?’

Notice I did not ask (of course I did at first) because I was learning to change direction  ‘Will I ever feel better?’ or ‘Will we ever get back together?’ or ‘Will I ever be able to face the world?’

Good Questions Produce Good Results

These latter questions don’t get us anywhere soon. These tend to keep us stuck. You don’t know the answer but these aren’t aimed in any useful direction.

Many of us waste our time asking useless questions. We spin our wheels and stay stuck wondering, ‘what if’ or ‘what if it doesn’t’ or why am I less than glorious?’

Or we ask about other people, whom we really can’t do anything about. Just like circumstances and events we ask, ‘why won’t they love me?’ ‘will they ever change?’ I know because I have.

We have to ask questions about what WE can see, hear, feel, taste or smell and experience. Our questions are about what WE think, feel and act or behave NOT about the outer world or others.

I’ll continue. More in the next blog.

These are self-directed, directed questions. We aim our mind at discovering and finding and feeling and acting the positive, wonderful, good things we can.

Through questions we can open incredible doorways to adventure. We create no resistance because we are innocently asking? We are seeking. When we are seeking in the right places and open to finding the positive answers all things can begin to change!” Rex Sikes

Use This Powerful Secret To Get Over The Past & Any Limitations!

horizons trees and shadows

Are you bother by the past? Do you relive less than glorious moments? Do you have regrets? Are you a survivor? Are there issues right now that you are struggling with? Do you want to be happier and healthier but find it difficult? There is a way transform all that and more. Would you like to learn how?

The Past Brought You To Now

Keep in mind the past has brought you to where you are today. It has been your journey. Each step of the way brought you to now. Some people spend most of now regretting or agonizing the past. Others have survived the past still tending to their wounds.

There are those for whom the past is golden and they spent most of their moments reminiscing and reliving. However one experiences the past there is only one thing that is for sure. It is over! It is no more. To carry the past around with you good or bad is as if you carry all your personal belongings around in a sack on your back.

That is too burdensome! That is far too heavy a load to keep carrying. Let it go. That was then. To let go of the past does not mean you do not learn from it. Learn from it and let it go. There are people, and perhaps you are one of them and already have, who look back at the worst time in their life and are grateful.

They are grateful for their past experience because they realize that without those times, or that terrible  incident, they would not be who they are, or where they are today. They consider it the ‘best thing’ to have ever happened to them. How you chose to look at and feel about it is important.

Celebrate Learn From And Let Go Of The Past

The past is nothing but a collection of memories.

If someone hurt you in the past years ago, and you each day feel that same hurt in your present, the only person hurting you now is you. That person hurt you back then. You are the one who keeps hurting yourself ever since.

Harsh, I know but it is accurate. Some would ask, who is crueler to you; the person in the past or you for keeping it alive? It is time to drop past hurt and trauma and move forward.

You can’t hope the past all goes away. Actually, it already has.  BUT you can turn your back on it. You can learn from it and learn to get over it. You can stop carrying it around.

This is how I discovered it is possible to change. I went through an excruciating time and was reliving it over and over. Until, I started to direct my mind differently by asking questions of myself.

I have taught countless others throughout three and a half decades the power of Directed Questions™. I have a special name for these because it is about the direction you set for yourself asking yourself a class of questions, not just any questions. People have been asking questions since the dawn of human kind.

Others have used portions of my work to spread the power of questions worldwide to millions. I am happy because it works and if you use this you too will discover the power.

Much of the material in my blog posts, including this one, comes from forthcoming books. I have a lot coming out soon. This material will be covered in two or more blogs. This be the first.

Ask Yourself Questions

‘What have you learned?’ ‘What lessons are there for you?’ ‘What do you need to know?’ ‘What do you need to do differently to not do the same things?’ ‘What possibilities exist because you went through those experiences?’

‘What can you now do differently if you would begin to?’ ‘How can these insights lead you into positive and permanent change?’

‘How is it possible that your past experiences contribute to you in positive ways now, regardless of what they were then?’

‘In how many different ways is your past a resource for you, a great learning?’ ‘How many more resources might you have because you lived through then?’

There are so many questions you can ask that will lead you into new ways of thinking and being.

You need to let go of the past. Honor it, honor you. Forgive yourself and forgive anyone from the past. Actually, forgive. Stop choosing to live in the past feelings. Stop preventing yourself from enjoying now and a wonderful future.

Ask yourself questions that move you from then to now and into a glorious future. You can if only you will.

‘How soon can I begin to notice myself paying attention to the little delights that make up right now?’ ‘How often can I discover people and things that make me smile?’ ‘In how many different and pleasant many ways can I draw my attention to this moment to notice how wonderful life can be?’

‘In what different ways can I put my attention deliberately on all the good things in my life?’ ‘How soon can I find myself learning from and recoding all my present and my past experiences as positive resources and learnings that I can be thankful for?’

‘How easily am I going to discover myself being grateful for all the experiences in my life?’ ‘How soon will I find overall well-being and comfort in knowing how strong and positive I am and that I can overcome anything and move forward?’

Direct Your Mind Towards What You Want To Include

The number of questions may be infinite. The idea is to direct your mind and not get a word answer.  You don’t want to ask a question that you answer with yes or no, or a few words.

You ask a question you genuinely don’t know the answer to.  You may think you do but you really don’t.  For example, if I ask yes or no,’ do you like tea?’

There is an answer. You already thought of it. Right? If I say, ‘how ya doing?’  You can say, ‘meh, good, great, bad, not sure.’ If I say, ‘how much fun can you have today?’ You don’t honestly know, do you? You may say, ‘not much’ or ‘I don’t know’ or ‘little because today is busy.’

You could answer,  ‘I’m not in the mood’ but if you are honest you plainly don’t know. The question, ‘How much fun is possible for you today?’ is not the same question as ‘will you have fun today’ or ‘are you going to have fun?’ or ‘do you want to have fun?

How much fun can you stand  today? Do you get this? You will, if you haven’t yet.

The Direction Is More Important Than An Answer

If I said ‘how quickly do you imagine you could learn to play basketball?’ You honestly don’t know, do you? You may think it could take a long time or short time depending on various factors but you actually do not know. There is no actual real answer because only experience will bear it out.

The goal in Directed Questions™ is to direct your mind to look for the experiences in life you do not yet experience fully. It is about having insights and positive feelings and moving in a direction.

You could say you are seeking answers, but what you are actually seeking is all the good times, the resources, things about you and your world you aren’t presently noticing?

More in my next blog post. Think of it as helping a child to discover all the wonderful things around her. What is there she may not have noticed about herself yet? What can she notice about her abilities and the world around her to enjoy a wonderful life? Where would it be most valuable for her to put her attention?

The Directed Questions I want you to learn and practice are designed to help you to become truly curious and then truly captivated and fascinated by what you find. These questions direct your mind powerfully and positively into what you can be, do and have that you ost want and enjoy! Celebrate and delight!” Rex Sikes

How To Stop Being A Slave To Your Thoughts & Feelings!

horizons road yellow lines

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could just stop thinking about things you didn’t want to think about? Did you know there is a way? Would you like to know what it is? It works! Before I get into what you can do let me ask you this. Have you ever watched a scary movie or a horrible show on TV or your computer late at night. It bothers you so you want to quit. You can’t stop thinking about it? What do you do? What is the best way TO STOP thinking about it?

If you said turn it off you’d be wrong. While that MAY work it usually doesn’t. When you turn off the scary show what typically happens? What happens once it is off? You KEEP thinking about! Right?

You turned it off to get away from it! BUT now all you do is think about it! Again and again. In the dark you cannot stop. You have to get up and turn on the lights. BUT still you keep thinking about it. That is the very thing you don’t want to!

The more you try to stop the more it keeps on. When you resist it what happens? You give it more energy. You are focused on fighting what you do not want so the more it persists! When you push back IT pushes back and vice versa. On and on it continues.

The way to change something or to stop something is not to fight or resist it. Nope!

What You Resist Persists

If you want to stop thinking about the horrible show turn the channel. Watch something else.

Get engaged with different upbeat content. Soon you will forget about the bad show. Brains don’t stop. They keep working. It takes more energy to try to shut them down than to re-direct them into a useful area.

You more easily think of something else when you direct your brain elsewhere. You withdraw your attention from what you don’t want and put your attention on what it is you do want. YOU CHANGE the channel in your mind!

I have called this Mental Aikido for decades because we redirect the energy of our thoughts.

A master of Aikido redirects the energy of an attacker. The master doesn’t resist the attackers energy or try to stop it. Rather the master utilizes it to subdue the attacker. We do the same thing with out thoughts. We don’t try to stop them. We redirect them into the positive.

If an attacker charges the master. The master doesn’t try to stop the attacker or block the attacker. The master will use the attackers momentum to pull him or push him into a different direction while tripping the attacker up and sending him to the ground.

The master won’t try to become a wall and stop the attackers charge. The master uses the energy offered to defeat the attack. I repeat: The master uses the energy offered to defeat the attack!

If you encounter something you don’t want. If you have negative thoughts or feelings or behaviors don’t fight them. They only persist that way. Acknowledge them and move on!

Turn Resistance Into Assistance

Redirect the energy. Think other thoughts. Read inspirational material. Listen or watch funny or uplifting audios and videos. Ask Directed Questions™ that lead you in more useful and positive directions. Divert your attention toward the positive.

Direct you attention to what you want, what feels better and which is more productive.

What else can you pay attention to? Get totally present. Notice and comment on what is immediately around you. Take inventory as you notice sights, sounds, feelings, smells and perhaps, even tastes. Explore the area around you. Comment on it. Put your focus there.

Become filled with gratitude and count your blessings. This is an excellent way to feel better instantly. Savor the wonderful feelings of those people, times, places and things you are most thankful for. Let your heart soften as you feel grateful. Soon you will feel marvelous!

Take a walk, work in the garden. Engage in some physical activity. Use your body differently. Change your physiology. Stand straight, smile. Put a determined look in your eye and walk as if loaded with confidence, positivity and self esteem!

Sing, skip, or dance. Jog or hike. But move and use your body differently. You can do any of these things or more than one.

Take Responsibility

You alone a responsible for your emotions. You are responsible for your own emotional well being. You alone can control what you think, feel and do. Only you. No one else can do it for you.

Might it take some time to get the knack of it? Yes, especially if you have lived your life as a victim to your thoughts and feelings and circumstances. Then it may take a little time. So what?

You can change from victim and become a victor. You can become a winner and a champion!

You simply must take control. Take 100% responsibility. Decide to commit to redirecting your energy whenever you notice it is less than glorious. If you don’t like it or don’t want it, or if you are feeling down and bad take it as a signal.

It is a message delivered to you personally so you can redirect your energy. Negative thoughts and feelings ARE signals that you are paying attention in less than useful ways to things you don’t want. Direct your attention toward the positive. Look into what you do want instead.

Energy Flows Where Your Attention Goes

You can’t stop the river! There is too much energy. If you try to dam it up you end up spending much more energy in managing it. You have to keep it from building up and overflowing. Even then you really cannot stop the river. It still is coming.

BUT, like the Aikido master, you can redirect the flow.

You can direct your energy into positive, powerful, pleasant, healthy, fun and fascinating directions. No need to suffer or remain the same when you can change yourself into anyone you want to be.

You can learn to do anything you want to do. You can have anything you want in life. All this is possible when you take charge of the brain between your ears.

Direct Your Thoughts And Feelings And Your Behaviors Will Follow

You thoughts instantly become things. Your thoughts become actions. When you think happy wonderful thoughts your body responds with action. You smile, your countenance lightens up, you feel uplifted, you might laugh. Your voice resonates. You feel on top of the world.

When you think angry thoughts you feel hot. You experience pressure. You become flushed. Your face gets red as your body responds. Thought become things. Thoughts produce action. Your body responds to your thoughts.

When you think sad depressing thoughts your face pulls downward. Your energy wanes. Your breathing becomes shallow. You feel lackluster and depleted. You shoulders slump forward and you compress your chest. You move sluggishly, slowly.

Thoughts Become Things

Change what you are doing. Even a small change in the correct direction matters. Space ships are guided by degrees. So are sailing ships. A one degree change of course now means hundred of thousands of miles difference later.

For example, a rocket aimed at the moon is constantly correcting its course very slightly. If it got off course by ONLY one degree after take off it would miss the moon by hundreds of thousands of miles. Just a small degree of change means a lot of change.

Change it into a positive direction. Tiny steps in your own best interest right now can have monumentally large results down the road. If you want a more wonderful and glorious future then begin today.

A Single Tiny Change In The Right Direction Can Have A Huge Positive Payoff

Take charge! Be responsible. Direct your mind in positive ways towards what you want.

Be your own best friend. Support and nurture yourself. Have fun while you change. Enjoy the process. Celebrate and fill yourself with gratitude and right attitude. You will discover so much richness and well being when you do! Commit to directing and re-directing you own mind. Don’t be a slave to your thoughts and feelings. Be their master!” Rex Sikes

Enjoy today!

How To Determine If You Are A Destroyer Or A Builder & Why It’s Important!

horizon house and sun

“Do you want to know the secrets to happiness and success? There are some. They are hidden in plain sight in most cases. Many people still manage to miss them. Have you? Do you want to know how you can more readily and more easily get ahead and create the career, life and relationships you want?

Is wealth and health important to you? If the answer is yes, pay attention to these concepts and principles. Apply these simple ‘secrets’ and you can dramatically improve the quality of your life. Wouldn’t you like to do that?

Alright, if you have been reading my blog for awhile you know me.

If not, I encourage you to go through and read other posts. Start at the beginning if you like, or pick mix and match. Reading is great.

Re-reading the same material is even better because you will learn new things with each re-visit. WHY? Because you will have changed between the readings. Okay, so you know me:

I like to keep it simple. While there are always shade of gray (I hear at least 50) I’d like to point out there is Black and White. While there is a gradient of temperature it is easier to refer to things as Hot or Cold. Other areas lend themselves to these notions as well.

Up Down; Good Bad; Large Small; Positive Negative: Rich Poor; Happy Sad; Tall Short; Fat Thin we could go on. OOOOOH – there is another one… On OFF.

Choose Positive OR Negative

There are always counter examples and exceptions to each and every rule but let’s keep it simple. Let’s work with Either OR. Is that okay with you? This is just to simplify and keep it simple. So the bottom line is:

You either think Positive Uplifting thoughts OR you think Negative ones.

You will never have a positive thought while focused on the negative. You won’t live a positive uplifting happy ‘I can do anything’ life focused on the negative, ‘I can’t do it, why do bad things always happen to me’ thoughts. It just isn’t going to happen.

If it does IT is extremely rare. (See, right there, I included the counter example right there for those who say… ‘but… but…’)

There are either Positive Uplifting People or there are Negative Downer People. People may be mostly one or the other. We may be either at some times in are life. BUT consider the example in the extreme EITHER OR.

Did you catch that, I included a counter example again for those who feel compelled to think… ‘but … but’.

Which Are You – Builder OR Destroyer

Put another way. There are Builders and there are Destroyers. Builders build, uplift and help others. Destroyers are those who tear down, take apart, criticize and blame.

You are either a Builder or a Destroyer. You are either Positive or you are Negative. Where do you spend most of your time? What do you spend most of your time doing? Who do you spend most of your time around?

DO you spend most of your time thinking about and pursuing what you want? Do you think about who and what you want to include in your life?

Do you consider who you want to be, what you want to do and have?

How much time do you spend happy, celebrating and are grateful for what you already have? How much time do you spend planning a better future?

Alternatively,  do you spend most of your time thinking about what you do not want? Do you focus on what you want to exclude? Are you most concerned with what you are trying to avoid?

Do you spend much time considering reasons why things haven’t worked out or criticizing yourself, others or circumstances? How much and whom do you blame?

Think about it. While there are variations let’s take it to the extreme. Which one are you? Which do you predominantly do? What are you focused on?

Are you a Builder or a Destroyer? Is your self-talk nice or not? Do you build up others or gossip and complain?

Whom Do You Spend Most Time With

There are Builders and Destroyers around you. The Builders, obviously are the uplifting positive people who help support you. They inspire and motivate you with their attitude, energy, thoughts and words.

The Destroyers are busy with negativity. They MAY be well intentioned but at the same time their attitude, energy thoughts and words are negative. They tend to be a downer. They can be discouraging, critical, harsh or blaming.

These people may be family, friends, co-workers, bosses, employees, people you associate with frequently or strangers you may meet from time to time. With whom do you spend most of your time?

Are your spending most of your time fraternizing with Builders or Destroyers?

Don’t be a bummer to the bummer people in your life. Don’t be critical, harsh or negative because you have energy vampires around you. That would be falling to their level. Take the higher road.

Live, love, laugh, celebrate and allow them to be who they are without judgement.

Spend Time With Uplifting People

Attempt to spend more of your time with the uplifting people whenever you are able. Associate with positive energy and positive thinking. Feel it. Surround yourself with Builders as much as possible.

Associate as little as possible with people who drain you and might bring you down.

Fill your mind with positive inspiring reading materials. Listen to motivational audio materials. Turn your car into a positivity classroom. Hang out with positive inspiring people. Attend fun, positive, inspiring learning events like classes, seminars workshops and retreats.

Enjoy community! Enjoy fellowship. Support and encourage each other. Help nurture and be happy for others. Celebrate everyone’s success and happiness. Don’t be envious or jealous. Be truly happy if others succeed before you do.

Go first! Practice the Golden Rule. Add value to others first. Help out. Give of yourself; your time, energy, money, whatever you can give, to make a positive difference for others. You will get back whatever you put out.

Put out the very best.

Spend Time Uplifting Others

Enjoy life moment to moment! Make it a priority. Feel your finest. Let go. Be grateful and be filled with joy as much as you can AS often as you can. Have a wonderful time!

Make each day worth living. Enliven your minutes and those of the people around you.

The more time you spend making others happy the more time you will be happy too. I’m not talking about sacrifice here. I am talking about feeling good and being a positive energy person.

The more time you spend feeling good, obviously the happier life you will have.

Smile a lot! Simply smiling will help change the flow of energy within you. Laugh a lot. Fill yourself with positive energy. Live with enthusiasm and energy. Be simple as a child.

Have fun. Delight yourself!  Focus on these and you will get more of them back.

Let go! Enjoy! Birds of a feather flock together. With the right attitude you will more easily handle any challenges or obstacles that may come your way. With the right attitude more of the people you want and hope for in life will be attracted to you.

Be a light! Be filled with light! Be lite! Delight! You will attract people, events, circumstances, (opportunities and advantages) that can help you and support you. Be radiant and they will come to you!

Birds of a feather flock together. Like attracts like. You get what you focus on!

Be A Beacon And You Will Attract The Best

Ignore the downer people. Don’t be rude. Just don’t get caught in their negativity. Let it go. Do not let those rain on your parade. Do not be bothered. Let it go like water off a ducks back. Instead, keep the faith. Have fun! I mean really have fun!

Be safe! Be wise! AND enjoy life whole-heartedly!

The world is filled with so many marvelous, wonderful, inspiring, and uplifting people. Be sure you are one of them! Find them and join them.

Live hot! Live Up! Live as a Builder! Live with Positive thoughts. Live with positive energy! The more you do this the more will be available to you. You will transform yourself and your life in the most wonderful and incredible ways. Do you want that? Then you know what to do! Begin now.” Rex Sikes

It’s too nice a day to not have a nice day. No matter what the day is like! Enjoy!

3 Things You Must Do To Enjoy The Success You Want

horizon barn and silo

“People want to get results. They’d like to know if there is magic or a magic formula for making their dreams come true? Some want to make sure something ‘metaphysical’ occurs when people concentrate on their goals and dreams. They want to believe the Law Of Attraction works. Don’t you? What do you want?

I think the bottom line of everything IS magic! It is true.  Everything IS energy. It all comes from the same source. Everything is vibrating. So how can it be anything else but magic.

It is true birds of a  feather flock together. People who live similar lifestyles and have similar incomes and think similar thoughts (religion and politics) tend to congregate in areas and in groups.

Yes, I think there is magic. There is energy. There is vibration. There is attraction. There is gravity. There is mastermind. Whenever two or more are gathered of like mind and purpose the effect is exponential not additive. On top of it all this we can AIM our minds. AND yes, there is a formula!

Like Attracts Like

Prior to the advent of humans on the planet there were great cataclysmic upheavals, gigantic storms, plates shifting, dinosaurs, ice ages. There were clear, warm sunny, days with gentle breeze.

There was weather of all kinds. Because there was no human living, yet, there was no one to call it a good or bad day. It just was! No one was here to say the weather spoiled their plans.

Good and bad, right and wrong are all made up in the mind. Judgements, comparisons, qualifications, reasons, excuses, blames are all completely from the mental activity of humans. Prior to humans there were none.

THIS alone should teach us not to take ourselves too seriously.

Realize It Is All In Your Mind

We suffer because of our own mental constructs. Little else is the cause of our suffering. Two people can go through the same exact circumstances. One emerges triumphant while the other is devastated. It is mind set that makes the difference.

There is magic. There is mind. Attitude is everything.

One aims their mind at making their dreams come true. It may happen quickly or it may take time. Many things take some time. Who can say? Whatever happens is what happens.

It is neither good nor bad until someone labels it such. Patience is of the mind. Frustration is of the mind. Both are energy vibrating differently.

Most of us have great difficult not judging because we were brought up to judge and evaluate by people who before us were brought up similarly. We have adopted the limitations of our teachers and models. We learned from examples.

We need not live as a victim to this conditioning. We can extract ourselves, learn to respond differently and be free. Anything is possible. Since everything is a mental construct anyway why not chose the one you want to live from?

You Can Direct Your Mind And Your Heart

Don’t live the one you were handed. Create and live your own truth. Live powerfully and positively and fully. Be alive. Celebrate. Enjoy and delight. Life is far too short for anything but love, life, laughter and positive, warm, caring relationships.

Seek the best in you, from others and in all circumstances. Never sell yourself, or anyone else, short. Believe you can and you will.

Napoleon Hill stated, and I agree, ‘whatever the mind can conceive and believe it can achieve’. Realize there is no limitation in that statement. Whatever the mind can conceive means it is wide open.

In the image used today there is a barn and silo obviously built by humans. First it was conceived. It began in the imagination. It was dreamed and planned.

It was believed it could be accomplished or they wouldn’t have even tried. Materials and tools gathered. The structures were built. Their goal achieved. Results in. Outcome complete.

You Can Do Most Anything When You Believe You Can

What you think in the head you can one day hold in your hand. Outer results ARE the outcome of what first starts within. It begins on the inside! What we accomplish begins inside us. Between our ears and in our heart decisions are made. Yes, there is magic!

It doesn’t matter what you want to build, your career, life, your wealth, health, family, relationships, anything! Whatever you want to make happen, attract or be, have and do in your future it all begins and ends with these 3 magic steps. The formula: Conceive it, Believe It, Achieve It. Head First, Heart and Hands!

Henry Ford said, ‘If you think you can or you think you can’t you are right!’ The magic is within us.

These are the 3 mental steps to creation. Anything a human desires to make happen and get done starts in the imagination. Next comes belief it is possible and belief in seeing it through. Lastly, you work your plans to make it a reality. Head, heart, hands is the formula.

Remember: Head  Heart  Hands

To achieve it first believe that you can. Believe you are destined for it. Believe you are worthy. Believe it is yours and you shall have it. ‘Ask and it is given’. There is magic. The magic happens between your ears and in your heart.

The magic inside determines what kind of person you are. It determines who you will be and what kind of world you live in. You determine if it is a friendly, abundant place or not. You decide whether or not you are entitled to wealth, health and well- being.

What you think you become. What you focus on you get

Make life what you want it to be. Be daring and brave enough to dream really big The bigger the dream the more likely you will make it happen. After all, if you can conceive it and believe it you can achieve it. SO do it! Yes, I believe in magic!” Rex Sikes

Make many marvelous moments today!

“I am going to answer a reader’s comment here today! I forgo the formatting and use of bold headlines because I respond with a letter to the reader. While specific to one questioner, the answer as does the question applies to many. The following was sent to me:

‘Hi, I don’t know if you’ll see this but I thought i’d try. I read your posts every day like a newspaper. I tried all your techniques for the past month and have had nothing work for me. I’ve lost my faith on top of it. You know, when things just don’t seem to go your way and are really difficult. What can I do? I tried small steps and nothing. I tried big steps and nothing. Things are very rough right now. How do I get back on track? Can you address this in a post or something. When you think all is lost, when it doesnt go the way you are trying, seeing yourself in a certain good way, and asking, etc. What do you do then? thank you R   Date: Thu, 23 Jul 2015 11:21 rossirr…

Dear R,

The question you ask is an excellent question. It is not only relevant to you but I’m sure to countless others. It addresses the same concerns I shared for quite some time. I understand that it is tough when times are tough because I too have been in a place similar to what you describe. I am sure many others relate as well. Countless others.

You may or may not appreciate my answer. It may or may not address all your concerns. It may be most relevant at another time reading it days or weeks from now. I will do my best to explain as well as I am able.  This will be lengthy, no doubt, as I attempt to cover most everything.

I will start walking you through the answer with tough love. It will be tough but hang in there I will lighten up before I close, I promise.

To put it bluntly that is just the way it goes. Somethings in life are difficult and require massive effort and persistence to get through. Not everything is but sometimes that is what we encounter.

Some people try to quit smoking or stop biting their nails, or reduce the amount of food they eat per meal and find it difficult to do. So what. Some things are difficult to accomplish. Still, many people do accomplish making changes.

They quit many times before they actually quit smoking. Some have tried for years. They stop biting their nails over and over again until they actually finally stop. They yoyo diet prior to throwing in the towel or ultimately succeeding.

Some things require extra effort and time to get through or get over.

That is the bad and the good news. Some things require us to face them as they are. Everyone has obstacles and challenges and some seem insurmountable, at least at first, or even while going through them.

Boot camp for most people will be a miserable experience that in the long run proves rewarding.

Some people wonder if they will make it or even if it is worth it. They want to quit. Some do. It has been said, many people quit while on the verge of success. They stop too early. Had they kept going they would have great success but they quit minutes too soon.

Those who keep at it ultimately get rewarded for their patience, their efforts and their persistence. They get to the finish line.

It isn’t easy changing. It is simple in many ways but not always easy. How many years have you done something a certain way, or your way? If you want to change it don’t you think it would be reasonable to expect that it would take as long to change it as it took you to first learn it?

If it took you 5 years to learn to worry don’t you think taking 5 years to learn to relax would be reasonable?

Most of us expect things to happen in an unrealistic manner. We are conditioned to think it can be quick, easy, no cost, works like magic instead of stick with it, work it, sweat and labor and get through it eventually.

Most of us have wildly unrealistic time frames. We think it should happen much faster than it actually takes. We are impatient.

The good news is YES you can learn to change in less time than it originally took you, but how much is less time? 4 years and 11 months is less time, 4 years and 3 months, 2 years, 1 year all of those (and nearly any other variation) is less than 5 years. So how fast does a person need it? We always think we need it fast, don’t we?

When we are suffering it is not easy. It seems to take forever. It seemed that way for me. Do you know what I was? I was a quitter. I started many thing and if I got bored or they got too tough I gave up.

I became a jack of all trades but a master of none. I lived a huge portion of my life like this. My parent’s were supportive of anything I wanted to do and encouraged me in many areas.

They did not, however, say, ‘Keep at it no matter what. Stick with it and you will succeed if you persist’. Even when it came to acting and making movies by the time I was 23 I stated ‘I want to stop banging my head against all these walls and only focus on one thing.’

It wasn’t until I was somewhat older that I learned what it meant to hang in there no matter what. I started and quit many things YET there were some things I was wholly dedicated to.

I was dedicated completely to acting and making movies. I was thoroughly dedicated to learning personal change technologies and accelerated learning, to meditation and spiritual practices. While I quit many things I also learned some things ONLY work when given enough time and dedication.

In my blog I use many analogies. One is planting a seed, nurturing it and harvesting. Once planted the seed begins to grow. You gotta have faith since you can’t dig it up to check. Yet that is what we try to do with our personal development. We monitor and keep checking to see if we are growing enough or fast enough.

You can’t dig up a plant and do this. You will kill the plant. You just have to wait it out. Eventually, it sprouts but it is still young and tender. It needs time to get strong and sturdy. You can’t pull it up by the roots and keep checking if they are growing deep enough.

The same is true about personal change. Once you start have some faith. Whatever amount you have IS what you have. Use it. Believe that your efforts will ultimately pay off. Stop comparing with others. Stop comparing with the clock. Let go and trust you will succeed if you keep at it.

Do what you do and build the success habits. Read daily! Fill your mind and keep at it. I struggled and struggled throughout my life. Many times. I got to the point of not having anywhere to go. I was desperate, hurt, disappointed, scared, devastated and worse.

When I finally committed I decided I would read inspirational material for at least one month. I didn’t know what else to do but I knew I must do something. I had to make a change or else!

Everyday I would read a chapter from a book. I did that. During that month I spent as much time reading at other times as I could. I read. I devoured. I listened. I took notes on what I read and listened to. I re-read what I had read.

I chanted affirmations while I drove. Any time I was alone and no one could hear me I stated my affirmations. I kept my mind focused on what I wanted to become because I kept remembering that we become what we think about. I put positive posters all around my house.

So I focused. The world did not change one single bit. I did a little. Bit by bit I felt better. The floodgates did not open and I did not experience riches, new relationships or new possessions instantly coming too me. I just felt somewhat better.

At the end of 30 days I faced a decision. Stick with the practice or give it up. I decided to keep going. What else could I do? I figured if I never got what I wanted at least I could be happy with what I had.

I decided that if I did nothing more than learn to live better and nothing else worked then I would have succeeded.

I was eager for my new life to take hold. Somewhere in the future was a promise but the current situation still sucked. I compared where I was to where I wanted to be and the difference was vast. I did this too often too. Took me some time to realize what I was doing.

Eventually, I realized some important things. Critical things that helped me greatly.

One was about my expectations. I expected things to change over night just because I implemented a new thought program. I expected magical miraculous results. My faith was in the process but it also was a little bit like religious faith. I thought if I did enough things right everything outside of me would change.

It was as if someone else would grant my wishes as long as I stated them loud enough. When I realized I was putting my faith in ‘powers’ other than my own I began to awaken a little. I began to understand that it was from within me I may change my world and not the other way around.

Later, I realized I needed to take full responsibility for everything. Good, bad, past, present and future. I was responsible for everything in my life!  Even if I wasn’t. Even if this is all BS! I discovered great power.

Acting as if I were responsible gave me the mental attitude and the ability to make changes. I decided I was no longer a victim but a victor and I should act like one. Most of us give our power away through blaming ourself and others. I decided to own up for it all.

Again, there were some changes in me. AND guess what.  There were times I was powerful and confident and many times I was doubtful, worried and confused. Nothing really seemed to change, yet, was changing in many positive ways.

You see, it is very difficult to analyze and assess a process when you are the one going through it. That is why athletes have coaches. They need someone to tell them when they are off and when they are on. Same with personal change. We are not the people who should be judging our progress but that is what we do anyway!

What had bothered me for years was beginning to give way. I had new problems instead of old ones. I found new responses to old triggers and habits and I began to realize my being was shifting.

Slowly, I became a creator. I decided if anything were going to happen it was because of me. Well, some of the time I did. I was learning to steer back to the positive. I realized how important it was to self correct. I realized sometimes I had to just keep at it until nearly exhausted.

I fell off the positive wagon numerous times but now I was getting back on. I wasn’t quitting but boy I was tempted at times. Instead, I kept going. I determined to see it through even when I wanted to give up.

I kept reading books, listening to audios, doing affirmations and asking questions. I practiced keeping the faith. Some things got really much easier.

During all this time I became much more sensitized to when I was positive and when I wasn’t. I began to more quickly notice getting off track and more quickly making corrections. Before I knew it a year had gone by.

I had not reached any financial or career goals. I did however feel better about myself. I also realized that during the year I had done more for myself AND my career than I had done in some time. I was proactive. This pleased me enough to want to keep going.

I spent days listening, reading, studying, buying book after book. I got more into celebration and feeling gratitude too because I noticed how much better I felt when I began the day this way.

One day it occurred to me that one issue I had was in not realizing that I was already enough.  I kept thinking if I read another ‘how to’ book I would learn a secret I didn’t know and then everything would magically transform.

I began to see that I was an info junkie more than I was a practitioner. I filled my mind with book learning more than I practiced what I was learning. I began to understand that to know and not to do is not to know. If I knew what I should do but I didn’t actually do it. Then I really didn’t know it

Knowledge is only life changing when applied!

I read about vision boards and visualization and the importance of writing things out and I would agree. I just didn’t do it. I kept reading, I did keep affirming, but I wasn’t doing some of the critical inner work. I decided I needed to change that.

I continued to fell off the positivity wagon numerous times over the years. On and off. When it occurred to me one day that I was right where I was supposed to be. You can’t push a rope.

Right where I am right doing whatever I am doing is where I am. I am doing what I am doing. No that sentence is not weird for no reason at all. It is akin to ‘I am because I am’. I realized I was perfect. Perfectly flawed, perfectly blessed. Whatever I did or felt was as it should be.

If I were stuck in traffic, as an example, that was where I was supposed to be. Now I don’t mean it was ordained by god or the universe. I don’t mean anything like that at all.

I mean it just is where I found myself and I could choose to hate it or choose to accept it. Whatever I chose determined how I felt. How I felt often determined what I chose.

I learned there is no other place to be than where I am in this moment. Whomever I am, that is who I am. I am right where I am because of my thoughts, feelings, and actions. It can’t be otherwise. I am right where I am on the path. The joke version of this is ‘Wherever you are there you are’.  Nope, not a funny joke.

Believe me when I tell you some of these insights were powerful moments of ‘aha’. Other insights crept up gradually. Some times I had a burst of awareness but a slow creeping realization of actualizing it. In other words, I would get glimpse that excited me but took time to understand.

My point is – IT is what IT is. Wanting it to be more or less, wanting it to be other than it is, is where suffering comes from. It is no different than longing for your neighbors, boat, car, home or wife. Envy, jealousy, comparison, judging all tends to make us feel inadequate.

Comparison is the devil’s volleyball. We go back and forth between where we want to be and where we think we should be and where we actually are. Where we are IS ACTUALLY the only place we can be so accept it. If you don’t you suffer.

I began to celebrate wherever I was at. Good or bad it didn’t matter. Rich or poor. I would accentuate the present moment positively and feel as good as I was capable of feeling. Hey, we all doubt, worry and fear at sometimes. It is human. We also can gain mastery over most of it, if not all of it, through dedicated practice.

Still, the goal is not to become not human. The goal is to become more human and make better use of our talents and abilities. We aren’t super humans we are humans after all. Everything we think and feel is part of being human. For everything there is a season.

Does this make sense? We cause our own suffering by trying to push the rope. By wanting it better, bigger and faster. We try to manage our change. We can’t. We can only do what we do and let the results come because they will in their own time.

Actually our results follow our mindset. Thought precedes action and I will get to that in a moment. I told you this would be lengthy.

If you want a highly ripped, muscular, lean body then you must undertake an entire training regime for as long as it takes to carve that body out.

You have to eat right, exercise right, rest and sleep right. There is no substitute. Yes, they try to sell it to you on media but frankly, nothing works but the original process.

You have to dedicate yourself to making it happen because no one can do it for you. You won’t wake up one day to a miracle and have cut calves and biceps.  If you are going to get a healthy, lean physique you are going to work at it  through time. You are going to repeat what works daily, weekly, monthly and yearly.

Once you have the physique you still must do what it takes to maintain it. Use it or lose it. It requires rigorous application of known principles. Each is simple enough though not necessarily easy.

Those who get the cut body are those who wanted it badly enough to do whatever it took to make it happen.

If you are going to back a cake. It requires the correct ingredients and the correct cooking temperature and the correct time all done in a proper order. If you mess with anyone of these you most likely won’t get the cake you hope for. If it says bake for an hour and you bake for 15 minutes you don’t get the cake you hoped for.

If it says mix eggs and milk and chocolate together and then put in the over for x time… you won’t get the cake you hoped for if you put milk and chocolate in the pan, bake it and then try to add the eggs. You already know this, right?

When things happened for me is when I decided that no one and no law of attraction was going to make them happen. I was not going to manifest anything out of thin air. God, the universe, my family, a stranger was not going to save me or do it for me.

If I wanted anything then I was going to have to make it happen. That first and foremost required the correct mindset. I had to believe it and know that I could and would do it. I had to decide it was up to me and I had to follow through.

I had to feel like it and feel good most of the time. If I wanted to get what I wanted I needed to focus on it and nothing else. If circumstances around me sucked so be it. I would ignore those and concentrate my attention of my mindset and getting the results I wanted.

The circumstances I live within are not relevant to what I make happen and what my future will be like. My circumstances do not have to define me. I can define me and change my circumstances.

I needed to live like a gladiator. FIght the good fight and let nothing prevent me from winning. I determined to be the one who makes what I want to happen, happen. I want to live as a champion and not a wimp.

Boy, have I ever wimped out in my life. Of course, I already said that in a different way.

I resolved in my mind that nothing was going to happen because I hoped, wished or chanted for it. It would happen if and when I aimed my thoughts and actions at it. It would happen when I believed I can do it. ‘If it is to be it is up to me’. I need to take the right action steps.

What I discovered is I made plenty of mistakes and faced numerous obstacles. BUT SO WHAT. Everyone does. Baseball batters batting 300 miss the ball 70% of the time. Still they are top athletes!

Instead of feeling sorry for myself I began to see that each time I slipped up or got off track was a valuable lesson. Plus, it was an opportunity to get back on track. I realized I was building new habits.

New habits come from doing the correct thing repeatedly long enough. Once we make the new habit it replaces the old way. BUT we have to make it. We literally rewire our brain for success. It doesn’t happen over night but by successful repetition through time.

We live in a world that wants it fast. I decided I was in for the long haul no matter what it took I will make it happen. NO MATTER WHAT! Do you realize these realizations came to me over time. Not within the first 30 days.

I am now two years or more applying these practices as I discovered these things. Today, many years later I am still learning and discovering new things I did not know and rediscovering other things. This old dog IS learning new tricks.

Then life and some circumstances began to change. Did challenges disappear. Heck no but my ability to handle and overcome challenges changed and became an asset. I’d have quit before.

I’d have gone into doubt, worry, fear, self criticism and loathing before. NOW I celebrate that I am learning even when I make mistakes. I am filled with gratitude that I am on this path.

Does it mean I never have doubt or fear. AGAIN heck no. But, not for as long nor does it take the toll it once did.

My life is great because I say it is. I assert it and I declare it. I make it so.

Each day is an opportunity to find more joy and delight because that is what I want to find.

I deliberately look for the silver lining and now I find more gold. It is a training process just as getting cut abs are.

Some people have it easier than me that is certain. Some have it harder. I have it the way I have it because I have it that way. There is no other explanation. I am that I am. I gotta tell you, yes plenty of times I felt like giving up. Sometimes, I did. A few days or weeks would go by before I got back on track.

Things change. Everything changes.

We miss this because we are organized to keep ourselves the same. What we believe is what we see. So we miss a lot because we don’t already believe in ourself 100%. You have to decide to believe first. Not necessarily easy that is true.

The more you practice the visualization and the affirmations repeatedly the more swiftly you come to accept it and make it happen. Some people aren’t prepared to overhaul their lives.

Some jump in to exercise programs and gym memberships in January only to abandon them in February. Some take on more than they can handle. Some don’t take on enough!

You eat your meal one bite at a time. Whether you push the entire meal into your face cavern as one bite or whether you take numerous little ones you still eat your meal bite by bite.

I recommend making your self change program manageable. Do a little bit each day. If you can handle more do more.

Some people do almost nothing and expect gargantuan results. Some do everything and still don’t believe much will happen. Fill your mind, do the work and commit.

You read about leaders who sent army troops sailing to a new land to invade and conquer. Once there the leaders burned the boats. The troops triumph or the troops die. There is no other option. There is no leaving. Commit!

Many of us take the easy way out and quit when the going gets tough. I decided to live by Vince Lombardi’s statement, ‘when the going gets tough the tough get going’.

I have found I can handle far more than I ever was able to before because through the thick and thin, through the good times and devastating, disappointing times I was growing muscles and know how. I was growing an unstoppable attitude.

Many people don’t stop and really consider that to develop a champion, winner attitude you have to be challenged. It isn’t a free and easy ride.

Without challenge and obstacle, without resistance your muscles won’t grow. We need to exercise our faith muscle first and foremost.

We have to come to believe in our own ability to make the future what we want it to be. We have to believe in ourselves. We have to trust ourselves and know that we can handle anything thrown at us.

The only way for us to know that is to be tested. Why do you think marital arts do belt training tests. To demonstrate competency as they move along.

One master told me, you learn martial arts until you become a blackbelt. Then at blackbelt you truly are ready to learn martial arts. It is mindset, attitude and spirit. The only way you develop that is to commit to it and be challenged. If it were easy it wouldn’t be worth much.

As it is, all of it gets easier through time, testing, and more time. The more you have to self correct the faster you will learn. SOME get upset because they seem to be self correcting a lot.

BE GLAD because that means sooner you will get it because you are getting so much practice. You are getting the opportunity to repeat your good habits again and again through time.

Things come to them that wait. Wait with faith that you will make it happen. You are the captain of your fate and the master of your soul. Be the author of your life, be the director of your own life script. Take charge and decide no matter what you will see it through.

There is great power in making a decision. You will have to make it daily until it becomes habit. Commit. Everything does get easier. Along the way you do discover magic and things do seem to work out in mysterious ways. That doesn’t mean there will never be a challenge or a loss or a disappointment.

Read daily, fill your mind. Commit to doing whatever you can positively to make your life wonderful. Be thankful for where you are, the good and bad times. Be thankful for everything and your life will begin to change.

Stop comparing. Look to what you want and not at what you don’t want. What you wrote in your question shows what you are most aware of and paying attention to. That is natural.

It is about learning a new way that doesn’t come easy but will get easier. Yes, there is a price to pay to have what you want. Those who want to be top in sports, theater, the arts, finance, anything commit and do whatever it takes.

They dedicate themselves to becoming the best. They believe it and keep the faith come what may. Those who get to the top do so because they don’t lose sight of it. They know they will make it before they make it.

It is easiest to succeed when you begin by feeling successful.

This is the secret no one tells you. Feel successful first and success comes. Be successful and money comes. It is not the other way around but that is how most of us learn it. Get the money and then you are successful. NO NO NO NO NO!

Be successful and the money will come. The fame will come. The glory will come. It is attitude first and then all else follows. What you hold in your mind you will one day hold in your hand.

You get what you focus on. See your goals as already accomplished and feel the feelings of how good that feels and you will make them come true. Believe it first, see it, touch it, taste it and you will get it!

I DO believe in the Law Of Attraction but I don’t believe it is  as much about you attracting good things as it is about you learning how to make good things happen. You create more than attract. You make the future you want come into being by aligning like thoughts and feelings and actions. YOU do it. No one and nothing else does it!

Still it is true that birds of a feather flock together. Thoughts do. One negative thought and you can easily find more. One positive thought and you can find more. So I talk about the LOA so you are aware of what you are generating or paying attention to most of the time.

The important point to remember is that whatever you have been doing most, for most of your life, is what is already easiest for you. This is true of everyone.  If you want to change it you can. I have told you how numerous times in this post and others.

You just have to do it. Practice it. Spend time at it. Heck, if you want to be a better bowler, golfer, knitter, cook, driver, banker, piano player you need to spend the requisite amount of time to become proficient.

If you want to be the best you have to go beyond what anyone else would normally do. So be reasonable and realistic. Understand it will take time. Not forever, but it will take time.

Sometimes things get worse before they get better because you are shaking up the system and entering uncharted territory. You can be waking up old patterns or fears. No worries you will get though them. Stay the course. Drop by drop fills the tub.

Most of all love yourself. Appreciate yourself stuck or not. Failure or success. LOVE you! Appreciate you. Be glad you experience everything you experience. Celebrate and appreciate. Delight and enjoy! Love and lavish positive regard on yourself and others.

That helps take the sting out of it too. When you can accept where you are and keep moving forward without digging the plant up and checking on it  every few moments you are progressing.

Your car is a great analogy. You have a gigantic windshield (windscreen) and a tiny rearview mirror. You move forward by looking forward. Only occasionally do you glance behind you. So keep looking ahead at where you are and where you want to be.

You occasionally glance at the dash panel to notice if any emergency or alert buttons are on. Most of the time you keep your attention on the sights in front of and around you as you move towards where you want to go.

My guess is you desire to make it work. Am I correct? You will. Keep the faith. Keep doing it. Some day at some time you will begin to surprise and delight yourself. You will have those ‘ahas’ and insights.

Yes, there will still be obstacles. Be thankful.  Allow whatever is going on to go on without taking it personally. Take responsibility for making your life grand and you will. Just stick with it and do not quit.

This is an excellent opportunity to prove to yourself you have what it takes. If you screw up one hundred more times SO WHAT! We all do until we don’t! Mistakes are all part of learning.

Falling down is part of walking. Staying down isn’t. Get up and go on. Shift your focus to what you want.

You know already what you do not want so turn your attention to what you want. You said you tried all my techniques for a month and nothing has worked.

You said you have tried small and large steps and have lost faith. Currently, things aren’t as good as you’d like them to be.

I have responded at length and here is my reply in wrap up. Stay with it. Nothing has worked, yet. This work takes time. Please, be patient. Keep doing. Even when you don’t feel like it. Do it.

Read, listen, visualize, affirm. Steer back to the positive whenever you notice yourself less than glorious. Accept that there will be times when nothing seems to work or when it appears hopeless.

It isn’t and things are working. Sometimes it IS darkest before the dawn.

Don’t substitute doing the actual work for looking for an answer. I did that. You have everything within in you that you need to succeed. Find it! It is there.

Spend time relaxed visualizing what you want. Enthusiastically chant your affirmations.

Ask potent powerful questions that lead you to where you want to be. Repeat and do over and over and over again. Manage your self talk and internal imagery. K

Stop worrying and start living. Celebrate. Find everything you can to be grateful for and savor these. Keep your focus positive. Keep in mind we become what we think about most often.

ULTIMATELY you will notice the difference and you will enjoy the difference as you persist and stick with it.

Commit to yourself! Don’t give up. Yes, it may be tough, but so what. At other times it will be easier too. You can do this and you can be the master of your fate. You can make your dreams come true. The very fact that you want to is an indication that you can and you will.

Let go of how long it takes and commit to the haul no matter the time frame. Keep doing the little things consistently. A month is a short time given the years you have.

It takes a long time for the baby to become a toddler, the toddler a child, the child an adolescent, the adolescent a teen and then young adult and then adult. Growing and developing takes time. Maturity takes time and experience.

You will progress. Stay in touch! Stay on top of your own personal change. Find ways to make it fun. Find support and positive people around you. Get coaching or a mentor in person or online. Keep the faith and keep the practice.

Find a church or temple or synagogue or a science of the mind gathering. Find some happy meditators to hang with. Commune and find positive energy people who can encourage you. Find people who inspire and motivate you.

You can and will absolute prevail if you will persist. Believe it. Make it your mantra and keep on going. Believe in yourself!” Rex Sikes

How To Stop Resentments & End Suffering

horizon purple flowers

“Have you carried a grudge or resentment about someone long after the reason for those feelings occurred? Have you carried around in yourself guilt, or shame or disappointment for something you may have done in your past? Many people do.

They live life looking backward at pain, hurt and injustice whether it is their own or in relation to someone else. Wherever they go they carry hurt with them as old baggage. Do you ever get hot under the collar because people you know, or even strangers, don’t follow the rules or do things you disagree with?

What Load Have You Carried

Time for a story.

Two monks approached a river. On the banks stood a lovely and solitary woman attempting to cross. She was frightened. One monk picks up the woman and allows her to ride on his shoulders as he made his way across the waters. On the shore, at the other side, he set her down and he continued on his way.

His companion, the other monk, grew angry. He walked with him in silence getting madder and madder. Many miles later they reached the monastery. Now, this angry monk exclaimed, ‘You know I must report you! What you did is prohibited. It goes against all our rules. The Master must hear about this!’

The first monk replied, ‘What on earth are you talking about?’

‘I cannot believe you touched that woman. You know our religion forbids it. You not only touched her you carried her. You broke our rules and I have no choice but to report you to the master!’

The offending monk laughed and replied, ‘Oh, yes, I carried her but I left her at the river many miles ago. Are you still carrying her?’

What Are You Still Carrying

Often what we see in others are our projections. We put onto them what we ourselves repress. We reject them or get angry about their behaviors when really it is us who should reflect and see what is going on within us. The other person is only a mirror.

If you are upset about what another person does; family member, friend, co-worker or stranger look within and seek to discover why it bothers you. Don’t just stop at the reason, keep looking and see if there isn’t something you could or should let go of.

Two monks but only one is bothered.

One monk walks getting hotter and hotter. The other just walks.

There is turmoil in the angry monk because of his understanding of the rules, his beliefs, what he does or doesn’t do, what he thinks others should do. What he believes is right. Many conflicts and many thoughts. Much passion and suffering.

What Can You Let Go Of

The only one suffering is the angry monk. It is what he is doing on the inside that causes the heat and the pain. Do you feel he is justified? Maybe, he is angry with good reason? Do you feel the first monk understands it better? Is one freer than the other?

If you feel the heat around what others do look within at what you can let go of that causes you to suffer. Understand it, learn from it and drop it. Take the lesson and then move on. Why needlessly suffer? Why not learn, let go and be free?

Don’t muck up your present with issues and grievances from the past.

Learn to drop those thoughts, feelings and experiences from your past when you got angry or are disappointed with yourself. There is no reason to carry resentment toward you or anyone else.

Stop Judging And Start Living

Whether aimed at yourself or another let them go. Drop them. They aren’t hurting anyone except yourself.  Stop making anyone wrong. Learn from them and leave them.  Turn your attention away from the grievance. Put your attention on finding wonderful things! Live free!

Look to what you can find that makes you feel good. If it isn’t obvious right away, keep looking. Look to the thoughts and behaviors you appreciate. Look for what you can celebrate. Find the best within you! Count your blessings. Remember the good times. Focus on what uplifts!

Find the best within others! I repeat: Find the best within others. Look for the finest in those around you. Recognize it, emphasize it and acknowledge it. Do this for them AND for you and your life will change for the better! Focus on what you want life to be!

Live with gratitude. Live counting your blessings and feeling truly blessed in all ways. Life is too short to live feeling angry, resentful, hostile, or sad, worrisome and fearful. Live with confidence, live with joy, live in delight! Stop judging and start living!” Rex Sikes
