A Secret I Learned To Keep From Spiraling Down And Out During Tough Times

horizon orange lake blue sky

“What do you do when things go awry? What do you do when the fan is hit hard? Times can get tough. There are obstacles and challenges. We all go through them. What can you do? How do you apply these principles to make a difference?

I can tell you what I do. I have been challenged recently in some big ways. Years ago it might have meant screeching to a halt or hitting the skids. Today, it is much, much different. It doesn’t mean challenges are less severe it means, sometimes, I handle them better.

I Take Control Of What I Imagine And What I Say To Myself

When I become aware that I am feeling down and out, or thinking negatively or beginning to wonder ‘why in the world am I going through this’ in that instant I realize I have a choice. I can continue to spiral down or to apply what I know works. I’m at a decision point.

When I am wise enough I apply what works. I give up. I accept that I have no clue what is going on. I let go as much as able and I remind myself ‘things always work out for the best for me.’ I know, it sounds trite but it is actually true. Things do work out for the best.

In the long run, that place far away that we can’t see yet, everything does seem to work out well.  I have written before that many times people look back at the ‘worst time’ in their life and state emphatically had it not been for that time they would not have and enjoy where they are right now.

What We Focus On Is What We Get

I know sometimes we have to really search to find the good or the lesson but it is hidden there as a seed. We just have to find it! When times are tough my mantra becomes ‘things always work out for the best’. I think ‘how come I am so lucky, so blessed and fortunate!’

I turn my attention to what I am grateful for and celebrate as much and as enthusiastically as I can. I make it a point to have faith that everything will resolve in a positive way even if I can’t see it or understand it. Somewhere, somehow, good will come of this.

Whether you believe it or not, whether it is accurate or not, really isn’t the point. It allows me to move through it faster and stay more resourceful. It helps me focus on  being productive and consider what I want and not spend time dwelling on what I don’t want.

Times can be very tough for any one of us. This is one of the best ways I know how to get through tough times. I know that every time times are tough I somehow manage better because between those times and during those times I apply these principles I am sharing as best I am able. Whew, did you get that?

Your Mind Is Obedient Once You Learn To Control It

This is one of the reasons I write so much about building positive habits because they will carry you  once established. There is strength in a strong foundation. It is also why I write about loving and praising yourself through difficult times or when mistakes are made. Criticism and self loathing doesn’t help any.

You know what? I don’t know why shit hits the fan. I don’t know why it rains on the rich and the poor or the good and the bad. I don’t! I know what I might believe about it. I know many different philosophic and scientific answers for why but I don’t know that any are true. I don’t think it really matters to know why.

I prefer to think somehow it is to wake us up. Whether by design or intelligence OR NOT, bad things happen and are opportunities to confront our programs and patterns and wake up to them. These events and circumstances challenge us to become aware and go beyond how we routinely react. So we can move into new ways of being.

The World And Her People Hold Mirrors Up For Us To See

While I may not immediately recognize them as such, I reframe the tough times as gifts. Blessings to help me examine myself and become better. The challenge for me is to look inward and not outward for the solution or the cause. I want to learn to respond with awareness not blame or accuse others or events.

Gifts to become more aware. Gifts to become free. Seems sad sometimes that we wake up through loss and tragedy but perhaps there is no other way to get our own attention. If nothing shakes us up we just go on doing what we have been conditioned to. So I think of less than glorious circumstances as a necessary evil.

I may resist them. Fight them. BUT when I surrender to them I always learn something and grow more. It hurts to grow sometimes. There are growing pangs. AND I certainly haven’t all the answers. Actually, I have very few. What I can have is faith in myself.

Turn Resistance Into Assistance

I can have faith that everything always does work out for the best, somehow in the long run. Then I begin to look for the blessing s and opportunities hidden inside these situations. Whether right or wrong I get more done. I don’t feel so bad and I stay on track. It is helpful for me to consider it this way. Attitude is everything.

Life is a series of adjusting to stay on course. Just as when you drive your car down a straight lane. You are always adjusting left and right to stay within the lines. So why should it be any different in anything else. If I get negative I adjust back toward the positive. I feel better. The more I make the adjustments the easier the next adjustment becomes. This is how habits are formed through positive repetition.

So, celebration, gratitude, looking for blessings and finding them in the midst of trouble is a skill we can develop. This too can become a habit. As said before, habits may be difficult to initiate but once formed they are difficult to break and they will carry you. It is good to have positive habits. “everything always works out for the best!'”Rex Sikes

No One Can Live Your Dreams For You

horizons train tracks orange sky

“How are you nourishing yourself? You eat three times a day for your body? What do you do for your mind and spirit? How do you stay healthy in mind and attitude? Here’s what you can do right now.

I’m an advocate of reading every day to fill your mind with positive inspirational material. Reading and re-reading and learning from books is a great way to stay on target and keep your attitude up.

Want Life To Change – Change Things In Your Life

Keeping a positivity and gratefulness journal is fantastic. Writing everyday about what you are grateful for and celebrate can make a huge difference in how you feel and what you accomplish.

Using the journal to write out how you fulfill your dreams to help you visualize better is an awesome assist. I mentioned this in my previous blog post. Works like a charm. Imagine ‘As If’ it is done!

Listening to inspiring and motivational speakers on audio is easy and you can do it while you drive. You can turn your drive time into learning time when you do this. This is so easy, no excuse not to.

If You Always Do What You Always Did You’ll Always Get What You Always Got

My daughter and I currently are attending a seminar. Not only is it great to be learning but learning with a family member is wonderful. We spend time together and are surrounded by positive people.

Hang out with people who are accomplishing what you want to accomplish or who are moving forward positively is important. Learn with them and celebrate with them success. Applaud them!

Put positive posters, or infographics up around where you live so what you see frequently are positive reminders for you. You can never get enough positive messages in a day. Practice positivity!

If You Hold It In Your Head You Can Hold It In Your Hand

Spend time visualizing your goals. I’ve described how best to do this. Manage your self talk. Ask Directed Questions™ and make affirmations as often as possible throughout each day. Stay focused.

Smile and laugh more. Use your body more. Dance or jump and get totally charged and energized. Learn how to relax, feel peaceful and let go. Both are important. Have fun! Be curious! Delight and enjoy!

There are many things you can do to stay on track with your positive purpose. How many of these can you incorporate? How many are you doing? We become what we think about most of the time!

The Brain Is As Strong As The Weakest Think

I really enjoy learning with my daughter. It is quality time spent with someone dear to me AND surrounded by positive others. We learn and can discuss what we learn. It is a sharing and bonding time.

Nothing beats having partners who encourage you and you them. A positivity accountability partner can help keep you positive, call you on your BS while encouraging you to keep going. It is wonderful!

There are many opportunities listed to help you focus on your success. There are many more to explore. If you haven’t already put some of these into practice begin now. Be of benefit to yourself!

The More You Do The More You Can Do

Make each day move you closer to the life you want. Drop by drop fills the tub. Each step you take moves you closer to accomplishing your goals. Be purposeful. Live with passion. Be persistent.

If you know what you want and you keep going no matter what you will succeed. Be unstoppable and you will get the prize. Too many give up when the faced with obstacles. If you keep going you’ll win.

Learn from challenges. Learn from opportunities. Take full and complete responsibility for everything instead of blaming or making excuses and you will find yourself more than half of the way there.

You Are Where Your Thoughts Take You

All of these steps are designed for one thing. You may think they are there to add to your knowledge and give you the edge. Sure, they are. These are to help you recognize the talent you already have.

Release the winner within you! You have everything it takes to succeed. You are champion material. You may have been told or conditioned otherwise so you don’t believe it. Learn to believe it!

Look inside to your inner resources. Manage your thinking! Take charge of your thoughts and abilities. Discover the reason to have faith in YOU! Make it happen. Create what you want.

If It Is To Be It Is Up To Me

Don’t live excuses! Live your dreams! No one can live your dreams but you. Start living them now!Do whatever it takes to be, do and have everything you want. What you think about you bring about. Think the best and bring about the very best for you. Start today!” Rex Sikes

What You Should Do: The Best Way To Spend Your Time!

horizons sun and flowers

“What is most important? What should a person do? How best to use their time? These and other questions are certainly important.  Often, I am asked to consult or give advice. I am happy to provided I can be of service and provide value. I will attempt to answer these questions to the best of my ability.

The life you are living. You and your relationships. The people closest to you. These are important. If I had one word to give as advice that word would be ‘live’. Live your life fully. Make the most of the little moments and enjoy everything. Live, celebrate and live.

It is far too short to spend time worrying about what isn’t, what you don’t want and don’t have. What is important is to enjoy this experience as much as possible. Fill your life with love, laughter and lightness. Leave the seriousness behind. Drop anything that doesn’t make you feel better. Happiness is a choice. Choose it!

Sure, you have to pay bills and do what is necessary to live in society. So do it and learn to enjoy life anyway. You can either hate what you have to do or enjoy it. Make the best of it or at least don’t let it get you down. Spend less time in misery and more time enjoying.

Delight, love, live, laugh, learn, have as much fun and fascination as possible. Play and relax. You only go around once! Make the most of it. Celebrate, appreciate and be grateful.  Spend time with the people who you love and appreciate most doing things you enjoy.

It is so simple. Spend more of your time feeling good and life will be good. It is a no brainer. Focus on that which makes you feel wonderful. Think thoughts that make you feel good. Be positive and enjoy. It is simple. Be more positive than negative, more joyful than sad, more peaceful than angry. Be curious and play as a child does.

It is your life. You don’t have to, of course. It is only a suggestion for how you may want to spend the time you have here.  The more fun you have the more you can have. Don’t shirk your responsibilities simply add pleasure in more often. Stop being so serious. LIVE!!!” Rex Sikes

Two Minds, No Names. What To Call Them If We Did?

horizon farm silo

“I want to clarify some terms here so readers understand why they are being used.  I have used the word subconscious because this is what most thought leaders have used when writing about the mind.

I have used the term autosuggestion for the same reason. These are old terms. In the 70’s we tried to shift to ‘unconscious’ and then to ‘other than conscious’ or ‘para conscious’ or ‘preconscious’ or any number of descriptors to suggest anything other than ‘sub’ or ‘un’.

I have used Maxwell Maltz’s ‘servo-mechanism’ and also called it ‘servant-mechanism’ to help clarify. I particularly like this description. Our ‘other than conscious, para, pre non, un, sub, conscious’ mind runs the show. Estimates put it at 95%-99% on running automatic programs, habits or the same neural pathways routinely day in and day out. THAT is powerful!

The ‘Other Mind’ Is Your Willing Servant But You Must Become The Master

The conscious mind can and does provide some direction in very specific ways that most people don’t yet know. Or they know but don’t use it. Thoughts, mental images, coupled with strong emotion, repeated over time, dictate to this other mind what we want it to do. Good, bad, right, wrong, positive or negative, wanted or unwanted this other mind doesn’t care it just obeys and says ‘Yes’.

I am partial to servo mechanism for this reason. This mind doesn’t judge or analyze. This mind carries out the orders it receives faithfully UNTIL the orders are changed. It is simple to change the orders but not always easy. The great news is THIS MIND is flexible and will carry out the orders we want.

BUT!!! We must give this mind the orders we want in the correct fashion! Then it is our faithful productive servant. Otherwise this mind runs the show with whatever it learned in the past from others while growing up. It is a servant! It does what it was programmed to do. If you don’t like that YOU must change the programming. You can! You take charge and follow through and the results are amazing!

I Have Used ‘Non-Conscious’ To Describe These Processes

Some people feel to call the mind ‘sub’ was ‘substandard’ or a pejorative and unkind view of this aspect of our self. After all, it runs most of the show all of the time. I have played with and used as many different variations as I have come to be aware of. I don’t think calling it ‘sub’ or ‘un’ is disrespectful as some do.

We have conscious mind and then we have the mind that is everything else. I don’t think it matters so much what we call it as long as we don’t call it an ‘it’ (wink wink). I don’t think it matters much. Disrespect is an intention and if one means no disrespect I think there is no actual issue.

Some people think of both of their minds as people. They personify them as they anthropomorphize animals. We have a conscious person and a other than conscious person. A light being and a shadow being. As if some angel or ‘not angel’ is sitting on our shoulder. I do not believe this to be the case.

Not Things But Processes

It seems our minds are a collection of processes or activities that are ongoing. Some, many, most may be habitual. The description I like best of the minds or the brain for that matter is of a jungle. The brain is like a jungle.

I like this because it implies that it is living. Teaming with many different living things. Activity and process, growth and development. It is not merely a computer it is alive and vital. Repetitive it may be but it is living and thriving.

I don’t care what you call our minds. I don’t think they care much either. I think they do care for how you use them and regard them. They are both designed to carry out functions to keep you alive and well. They are designed for you to survive and they will keep you alive even if it kills you. (wink wink nudge nudge).

That other than conscious mind doesn’t care much for positive or negative, want or don’t want ‘it’ say yes to whatever is the case. You say, ‘I am smart’ it says ‘Yes, you are!’ If you say, ‘I am stupid.’It says, ‘Yes, you are!’

Other Than Conscious Only Says ‘Yes’.

It doesn’t differentiate whether wanted or unwanted, positive or negative. It works to say yes to whatever it is you consciously think. If you begin smoking it will keep you smoking even when you decide you want to quit. That is what it knows. It forms habits and streamlines behaviors so you don’t have to think about it.

You decide you want to quit smoking. It runs the old program. Ultimately, you can change it and then it will work to keep your new habit just as strongly. Whatever the new habit is. It says ‘yes’. So if you used to say, ‘I can’t make money’ it said ‘yes’. If you change that to ‘I can make money’ or ‘I am rich’ it says ‘yes’. See how this works.

Either way it will help you do what you want to do. What you have learned to do and it will do it reliably in service of the human so the human can survive. It truly is magnificent. BUT unless we learn to harness and use its power it will run the show. We don’t want that.

Our minds our wonderful. They are divided into conscious and ‘whatever else’ but in reality it is wholeness. Complementary wholeness. One mind functioning perfectly well. Various tasks being performed day in and day out. We have a beautiful mind a wonderful mind and it works perfectly well.

The Thing Named Is Not The Thing

Any name will be a less than an adequate descriptor. So let’s not stew over what we call our two minds. All the things that can be named are not the thing named. Few readers may appreciate this but nothing is it’s label.

It is beyond the mere label. Labels are simply identifiers so we can agree on what we are discussing and are utilitarian and little more. You aren’t Bob or Sue you are called Bob or Sue to identify you from Tom and Jane. It is useful.

If we were all called Steve we would have some difficulty unless tonal variations or additional names helped to differentiate. The same is the case with our minds. No name we choose to call them, for either sets of processes, are adequate to describe them. SO WHAT? Who cares? I don’t. There is beauty in all of this.

The more we understand the more we are able to harness and benefit from the amazing power and abilities. We use our minds to study our minds. We use our consciousness to study our consciousness. There is utter folly and total delight in this, don’t you see.

Learn To Harness The Power Of Your Minds

We are beginning to think, more than ever, that the minds are not localized but spread throughout the body. Some differentiate between brain and mind as in hardware and software. Some don’t care so much.

Some believe that mind is not only not solely localized in the head, but spread through the body. Some even believe the mind is outside the head and body and pretty much everywhere. Infinite intelligence. A mind we tap into.

I’m not certain we ever have precise words to describe these incredible processes happening in and or around us. It may be well beyond us, to fathom. Our language may be inadequate, as it often is, to label these miraculous minds we have inside or out or both.

The Other Mind Works All Day And Night Without Stopping

So celebrate the incredible wonderful power of our amazing universal mind power. ‘It’ is not limited. We are limited in how we think about it and how we use it to think. But we can go beyond limitations.

We can use our minds to go beyond limitations and think outside the box. Samadhi, bursts of illumination and enlightenment are possible to all of us.Increased awareness and awakening is our potential and our destiny. We can observe our thoughts and feel separate from them. We have so many remarkable talents and abilities.

The only thing I know for certain is we don’t know everything yet. We are talented beyond our abilities to conceive of just how talented we are. We should stretch the imagination to go places no one has gone yet. We should think bigger not smaller.

We Can Push The Envelope To Go Beyond What Is Known

We should adventure and explore the outer boundaries of our universe and expand them. Just like available space in your home we will fill it. We can push the boundaries and go beyond them. Nothing stops us except thought itself. A thought!

Never let a thought prevent you from being all you can be.Take hold of your thoughts and make them serve you. Master your thoughts and your feelings to discover who you truly are. Celebrate and enjoy this discovery. Enjoy your minds. They are your servants!” Rex Sikes

A Vital Secret To Success: Make Your Knowledge Work For You

horizons green sky and shack

“Have you heard the saying ‘Knowledge is Power?’ Do you believe it? Could you have knowledge but no power? What do you think? Do you consider yourself a learner? Do you apply what you know?

Some people run from book to book or from training to training attempting to get more information to be better in their career or live a better life. They learn and keep learning.

To be a life long learner IS a great thing when done correctly. Some people search for information incessantly as if to fill a void in their life. The search it out, find it and then keep looking. Then look again.

The Mind Is As Good As Its Weakest Think

Knowledge is power but ONLY when it is used. If it is not applied there is no benefit in it. Knowledge for knowledge sake is meaningless. It might be interesting but it isn’t life changing.

The point of knowledge is to do something with it to transform. You or I or the smartest people in the world don’t benefit if it isn’t applied. When applied it becomes powerful. It can be wonderful.

When you apply what you know you learn more because you learn from experience. There is no greater teacher than experience. Attempting and failing and attempting again brings wisdom.

Knowledge for the sake of information is dead. Knowledge put to good use is alive, active, and evolves your thinking. It adds to you resource base and increases your awareness of opportunity.

Use It Or Lose It

Put your knowledge to use right away. When you learn something useful or beneficial apply it as soon as possible. THEN keep learning and seeking. Stay open to what else there may be.

Then continue life long learning. Read positive and inspirational material. Take and apply the suggestions. WORK IT. Repeat it. Re-read the material again a few days or weeks later. Then again later.

Write down what you are learning in your own words. Re-read it again at another time. Re-write it again in your own words. You change by applying knowledge. Your understanding grows.

From the application and the re-visiting of the material you evolve. You evolve through trial and error, success and failure. When you revisit and re-write you make the understanding your own.

Skill Comes Of Doing

Do you have to do these things? No, of course not but they help! Learning is not the passive accumulation of tidbits of information, yet, that is what many people think. Application is vital.

The more you learn the more you can learn. The more you apply the more becomes available. Use your learning to make life what you want it to be. Otherwise, what is there? Interesting info.

Share your knowledge. Assist others in learning. Surround yourself with positive people with similar dreams and desire who can inspire you and assist you AND vice versa. DO workshops and training.

Imagine using your knowledge positively in a variety of ways. See yourself doing what you want. Visualize it as if you have already learned it and made it a habit and are benefiting from it.

When Directed Towards A Chief Aim Then Knowledge Is Power

Constructively day dream! Put your new knowledge to work. Take it for a real test drive. Use it!  You will add immeasurably to your overall well being. It will make an important difference for you.

As your learning increases so will your awareness of what else is there to benefit from. Opportunity and advantages become more visible and recognizable. You transform beyond what you know.

Celebrate it and be grateful. You are changing in positive and beneficial ways when you apply your knowledge correctly. You will be delighted at the positive results you can get. Do it; begin now!” Rex Sikes

How Easy It Is To Hate And Why

horizon black and white

“Why do people treat each other poorly? Why do we have such little regard for our own species? Why do we hate those unlike us? I am not sure I have any answer to these important questions but I learned much from some adventures during the 80’s.

I have become convinced that focusing on hate and trying to rid oneself or others of hate is as futile as anything else we have tried to rid ourselves of. We don’t stop hating by legislating against it, however, we may curb it by focusing on love and acceptance.

We need to focus on what we do want and not what we don’t want. We identify what we don’t want, yes! Then we put our attention onto what we do want instead. This keeps up moving forward regarding our goals.

If we want to end hate and discrimination we need to be love. We attract that which we already are, we create from whom we are. We need to be it not simply want it. Wanting it means it has not arrived yet. If we are it we already embody that which is necessary for change. I believe this is an important distinction.

A Journey Of Sorts

“Here is what I experienced. From 1980 to 1990 I had been a sannyasin of Osho otherwise formerly known as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. I fell in love with the little guy’s message from books and listening to tapes.

I had been a student of the mind since I was 11. I read every book I could on spirituality, meditation, powers of the mind, Napoleon Hill and New Thought leaders, religious text, hypnosis and other disciplines. I sought to improve myself and evolve as a person.

I adored the message and promise  of meditation. I had spent time with others, including Swami Muktananda, Satchidananda, Krishnamurti.  Living in Los Angeles allowed me to have access to other prominent speakers and thinkers East and West.

When Osho came to America and headed west to Oregon I decided to go too.  I had received sannyas in Laguna Beach at an ashram center. So when I could, whenever I could, I went to stay or live in Oregon at the city commune. There were some dedicated people who lived and stayed there year round. I came and went.

Initiation Into Sannyas And Living With Awareness

Taking sannyas then meant  wearing clothes the colors of the sunrise as a reminder of one’s commitment to meditation. It meant wearing a mala, a neckless of 108 beads, to represent 108 forms of mediation. It meant taking a sannyas name. I did all three.

I was very aware that wearing red clothes and beads was my clown suit. It was different from the jeans and clothes I wore and most others did. To say I stood out is an understatement I suppose. I certainly did. A red orange beacon in a sea of brown and blue.

I lost friends because I wore red clothes. Suddenly, I was a cult member. I must be brainwashed were the statements I heard. I tried to explain that I could always take off the outer trappings; which are no different today than wearing branded clothing from popular designers. I was branded a sannyasin in the East. In the West I was branded a cult member.

I wore a brand – sannyasin wear. I was identifiable by being an odd ball. AND yes I could always remove them if I chose. I chose not to. It was, for me, an exercise in awareness. At first, prior to becoming a sannyasin, the thought of anything other than jeans, blue jeans was terrifying. Wearing beads absolutely out of the question.

Clown Suit Colors Are Most Fast Food Colors And Then Some

Once I put them on it took some time to become comfortable. As I stated it was an exercise for me. Not for anyone else. While I wore the sannyas, monk trappings that separated me from the rest of ‘normal’ society as a catholic priest or nun would, I didn’t consider myself different or special.

I sought to allow mediation to be my life. Anyway, I learned that I did not have a problem with the colors or the beads but that others did. My clown suit became a marvelous testing ground. When asked, I tried to explain to people the clothes and colors were meaningless.

They didn’t make me better or worse. They were clown colors. I didn’t have to wear them I chose to wear them. It didn’t matter. People believed whatever they wanted to regardless of my explanation. I did look like a walking fast food restaurant I suppose.

People either accepted me, got to know me, or they didn’t. The clothing and the beads was a barrier. It was right where most people stopped and drew conclusions. I figured they didn’t even begin to see me if all they did was stop at the colors.

Everything Is A Choice

Some made it  through the barrier of red, orange and purple clothes when blue and brown and green ruled the day. Some people couldn’t accept a beaded person in flamboyant jeans and tee shirts. I still wore traditional jeans and tees just dyed a different color.

Many times I was asked if I was gay. I must be they concluded. No real man wore purple or maroon. I was shunned. People would stare and comment. People would point, snicker and laugh. I was followed many, many times and taunted.

I was screamed at and called names. I was threatened with violence and told to go back to my country. I was physically chased out of places and many times accosted. I had guns pointed at me a couple of times.

In Oregon I was refused food in restaurants and gas at gas stations. In the LA airport one man passing out gospel tracks shouted repeatedly at the top of his lungs for someone to shoot and kill me.

He drew the attention of the police to the area. They ultimately settled everything down and stated he had the right to his opinion. He was expressing free speech and they left. As did I.

We Are Constantly Choosing

L A was less hostile because there are so many odd people wearing odd things. I traveled the country. I spent time in the East and in NYC, the Midwest and the South always dressed in my clown wear. Different parts of the country had greater degrees of intolerance.

Through all of my experiences I faced with myself. Does this bother me or not? Is it important? Is it my issue or someone else’s? Do I care what they think? Can I accept them even if they don’t accept me?

What they do has nothing to do with me because they don’t even know me. They are upset at my clothing and what it means to them. There were some times when I lapsed and made it my issue.

Most of the time I realized I was wearing clothes that, for whatever reason, others had problems with. Others took issue with my clown suit choice and made it about me. A person they did not know. Maybe they didn’t care to know and that was fine.

We Are All The Same

I was a provoking beacon traveling through the world. I learned opinions and actions of others were their own and had nothing to do with who I was or am. They didn’t know me they only saw the beads and clothes. That wasn’t my problem so I didn’t make it mine.

I am not saying I was always aware or awake or that I wasn’t at times offended or frightened. For the most part though I knew inside I could take these off and no one would be the wiser. I would immediately fit in. I would be accepted. I knew it was my choice.

Because of this I chose to wear them. I wore them because from moment to moment it was a reminder of my decision to live as a meditator and live peacefully. I am no better than anyone in any regard. I have those things that I took or take issue with.

This exercise has helped me see my sticking or stopping points. It has made me more aware of when I get stuck and stop short and do not go beyond and investigate more. We are people. We are cut from the same swatch. We all have areas of issues.

Learn To Respond Instead Of React

People’s responses could push my buttons and I could react or respond. I sought to learn how to respond in the moment with awareness and acceptance of whatever is. I could wear them or not it didn’t matter. There would always be something someone could find an issue about. Isn’t there?

Because I had an unusual Swami name, wore beads and silly colored clothing people assumed I gave up my mind to a guru and did whatever he said. Not true. They thought I gave up my will and would follow blindly anywhere. Not true.

The believed I gave all my money and worldly possessions to the ashram but I never gave a dime. No one ever asked either. Some times I tried to explain, when asked, but l learned most people concluded whatever they would conclude about me because of the clown suit.

My words didn’t mean much or make much impact anyway. If my explanation mattered it meant they would have to believe differently. I was stereotyped because that is what we as people do. It is convenient and we don’t have to think anything through.

Beliefs Run The Show: What We Believe Is What We See

It’s a no-brainer based on obvious characteristics. So I let them think what they wanted. I let go of attempting to change their opinions. Their opinions and name calling and actions against me had nothing to do with me. They were reacting to the clothing colors.

Sure, they were reacting to the person who wore them but they did so in ignorance of who the person was. That was their problem not mine. Yes, it could be dangerous for me at times, but I was learning so much about what we as people do inside our heads about others.

I developed some strong marvelous non-sannyasin friends too because they could see past the outfit. In some ways I wore it to see who was the type of person who could get around it in their mind. If they were able and were able to get to know me and I them then we could be very honest with each other.

I had some incredible girlfriends. I had amazing sannyasin friends and non-sannyasin friends. I moved in places where people could care less about what was worn and in other places where what you wore meant people wanted to beat you up.

Do Not Stop At The Obvious Be Willing To Go Beyond

It was an incredible exercise.  I learned so much about me. I learned so much about people and triggers and acceptance and hatred. I learned all this because I chose to do it. Did I tell you, I always knew I could take it off and slip back into the ‘normal’ world? Yes, I know I did but this is an important point.

OTHER people can’t take off their skin color or their gender. They live in their skin and in their body every moment of each and every day. Some encounter horrible cruelty and even death because of the family, the nation, the religion they were born into, not the least their color and ethnic heritage.

I could always remove it. Because I knew this made me want to wear it all the more. I got to experience a tiny taste of the prejudices and even violence directed at people because they are different. I was safe because I knew if I ever had to I could remove the outer wear and walk right through the haters. I never did but I could have.

Awareness Is A Choice

My clown suit was a luxury. A lesson few of us get to live and learn from. It was so valuable as a reminder to be aware and to let go and be meditative. If others hate you you do not have to hate back. You can, you may even, but you do not have to. You can choose.

I am so glad for my clown suit. The time came when the decision was made that people go and live among the rest. Drop the colors and the beads and the name. The ‘great exercise’ was over. Boy, that was hard. My clown suit was a tool for my awareness. If I wasn’t confronted moment to moment then what would happen?

Let me interrupt and make something perfectly clear. I don’t actually know what it is like to walk in another person’s shoes for even a single step. I got a taste of something from which came some realizations. What others face because of what they are born to can be unimaginable at times.

I only got a tiny, very tiny glimpse of a sliver of what some people must endure. I am not making any comparison. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn to be more accepting and to recognize choice points. For me, it was an incredible lesson and challenging exercise but so worth the years of doing it.

It was difficult to give it up but once I did I realized there are always buttons and triggers. It doesn’t matter. It seems we get to encounter ourselves no matter where we are. Alone or with others we are faced with who we are what kind of person we are.

Every Moment Is An Opportunity To Embrace

The world and others, even your own self is a great mirror being held up in front of you. What bothers us, gets us snagged up, frustrated, down and out, making excuses  and or being critical of ourself and others, blaming others, hating others, is a reflection and an opportunity.

We stare back at the other person who is reflecting us. Their behaviors mirror our own in some way. BUT we can choose. YES, it may be difficult but we can choose. We either reject it and fight it or them or we accept the lesson and let go of the anger and rejection.

It is a glimpse of oneself and one’s beliefs and conditioning. It is a look into what internal or external conflicts we may have. It is a little signal to get our attention so we can be aware, drop it, and go beyond it. It is benevolence disguised as pain.

Whether in red or blue clothes the world and its people provide opportunity to wake up. We can resist it or we can let go. We can love ourselves and everyone else through it all. We can find a higher road and not succumb to the lowest common denominator. We need to embrace all people because we are one people.

Seek The High Road

Love don’t hate. Be blind to differences that do not matter. Embrace yourself and embrace all those around you. Life is far to short for hate and discord. We need much more time to love and party. We can delight and celebrate and be grateful for all things. We should never stop at the obvious but seek to understand and embrace.

We are all far more similar than we are different. We are different mostly at the surface level. Some endure far more pain and suffering from hate and intolerance than anyone ever should. That is just wrong.

We need to embrace each other as the one species we are and seek love. Our differences make us richer and better. I have said for decades in seminars that what stops people is a thought. The notion ‘I can’t’ or ‘I am unable’ or ‘I won’t’ or ‘I refuse’ is what stops people from moving forward in positive ways.

Live Love Laugh Celebrate

I learned people stop at the most silly things. Color for one. Even color of clothing. WOW isn’t that an odd one? Type of hair, shape of eyes, size of nose, lips, dialect, gender you name it someone can make it an issue. They do literally stop. They do not seek to go beyond.

Going beyond requires being open. It requires acceptance of what is without judgement. We can use more of this, don’t you think? Focus on love not on hate. Don’t even hate the hate. Be love. Be kind. Be compassionate. Be acceptance.  Live, Love, Laugh and celebrate all. ” Rex Sikes

How You Can Learn New Things To Improve The Quality Of Your Life

horizons rail road tracks

“Are you are life long learner committed to be the best you can be? You can learn anything you put your mind to, Did you know that? Learning can be fun and easy. It can take you to places you would never have imagined yourself visiting.

Your ability to learn and keep learning can open up incredible new doorways for you. Learn and continue to learn. Evolve. Grow and make the most of your given talents and abilities.

You may not believe it yet, because many people have limiting beliefs about themselves as learners BECAUSE they went to school but you are already an exquisite learner.

You have learned so much in live. You have learned many wonderful and magnificent things. You have also learned many useless things. You have learned to have problems and disappointments too. You can learn how to overcome any of these.

Click Here to Watch This Short Video Now

Statistics tell us that 95% of what we learn in college is forgotten within 6 months of graduation! Only 5% is all that is retained of what you spent more than 4 years studying. 95% is forgotten.

How much did you spend on college… for that piece of paper? And if you went to a prestigious university it means you still forgot 95%, but you spent more money to do it.

Learn As A Child Learns Naturally NOT The Way They Educate In Schools

The most pitiful thing is when people think there is nothing new to learn. There is always something new! Every day is a rare and unprecedented opportunity to learn and to have fun. The key to learning anything really well is to do it the same way as when you were a small child.

You learned a thousand times faster back then – and it was a blast! If you are willing to play, to adventure, to explore like a child does – you can add to your learning in ways that might seem miraculous.

Children learn an incredible amount because they are open and unbiased. A child can play with a stick in total delight and all the while the child is learning – learning to move and to coordinate himself.

He can watch the same movie over and over and still shudder with delight, still shiver with fear, and laugh with abandon – even though he knows what is coming.

Children are learning machines until they are trained to behave like young adults and are confined to desks and told to act appropriately. While adults look for the pay-off, kids simply learn for the sheer pleasure it brings them.

As adults we need to recapture the sense of joy and adventure we had as children, to rekindle a sense of growing and contributing.

When I teach my programs I get everyone from pig farmers to top CEO’s and all types of other occupations because if it’s not about putting a bigger smile on your own face and if it isn’t about putting a bigger smile on the face of people around you, if it isn’t about having a better experience or a more vibrant experience, if it isn’t about enlivening yourself… than what is it for?

One idea can change the entire world. We need a better class of thinkers and innovators – juicier people with explosive curiosity and creativity. Fun loving people who can change the world. Seriousness is truly a disease.

We need giggles and shudders and risk takers. As Oliver Wendall Holmes said “A mind stretched to a new idea can never go back to its original dimension.” Love learning – learn for no reason at all except the sheer joy of it. Love seeking.

When I train, I present something I call the Mastery Loop™. Here it is.

Approach

What happens is that people first approach information. This is what I call the enlightenment stage. This is not the eastern concept of enlightenment and meditation, but this is where you are enlightened to a new idea. This is about approaching material and information.

People come to me and it’s new to them; people come to accounting it’s new to them – whatever it is… in school or the real world… you approach something for the first time. Something you didn’t know.

Bewilderment

After the approach, comes the bewilderment stage. You get a little bit of it and it becomes confusing. That’s because the “7-plus-or minus-two” conscious rational part of your brain is trying to understand the information, but it hasn’t yet assembled it in a way that is useful for you.

It’s trying to grasp it and make sense of it before it is ready to be put in order. However, if you stick with it, stay with it, and you are really learning the material, then shortly thereafter it will become clear.

What happens in college and formal schooling is that right before or right after it becomes clear, they give you a test. And if it hasn’t yet become clear, then you fail or get a low mark.

If you are poor at the mechanics of taking an exam, you can get a low mark that means you didn’t learn the material according to that institution.

Clear

God forbid you should be good at the mechanics of taking an exam because that means that you pass without having an understanding of the material at all. Lots of us got through school that way, didn’t we?

Then you go onto a new subject! “OK that’s done – NEXT.” That’s when you begin to get more of what I call “just information”, without behavioral competence.

When you do one of my programs what I do is skip the clear stage and go right to what I call the “mining for gold” or the drill stage. That means you approach the information, get bewildered and begin to practice or drill what it is you are learning.

You will actually get hands on practice so that it assists you in becoming more clear about what it is you are learning.

Drill

You do exercises to actually wire in the behaviors you are learning, you get to look at eye accessing cues and practice language patterns, and do anchoring with the others in the room so that you have the experience of doing it.

What is valuable about this is that you do the exercises during the workshop time.

After you have drilled and practiced thoroughly, then you enact the material. I have a saying that the workshop begins when the breaks begin. That is your golden opportunity to remember to use what you have been absorbing during class practice time.

When you enact the material, you use it in your daily life, refine it, and use it during real life situations.

Enact

When you take these skills into your daily life, then they begin to fuse – they become a part of your everyday behavior; you integrate them. This is where it becomes habitual.

You develop “unconscious competence” (like riding a bike) and have them as part of your behavioral repertoire for the rest of your life.

This is where it become so much a part of your behavior that you find yourself using the skills without always having to think about it. This is when you have truly integrated it.

Fuse

As it fuses, it becomes a part of your everyday life. This is at the point where you will become creative with the material. This is where you will use it in ways that you or I could never imagine.

It is at this point you begin to discover your personal genius with the material.

You will find applications for it, design new things and make your life really a party. This is when you look at a problem, and instead of going “this is going to be a difficult problem”, you go “this is going to be a real piece of cake”.

Genius

The appropriate behavior is insatiable curiosity. To continue to learn, grow and evolve… not stop at quick fix techniques… but to evolve and become more compassionate and joyful and wondrous.

In other words, to make life a celebration and not just put a Band-Aid on an oweee. Remember exploration is the doorway to adventure!

What I am asking you – and this is a request – is how much fun can you have, how much curiosity can you have, how much wanton desire and passion can you bring to having a good time?

Because if you can do it here and now, regardless of challenges thrown your way, you can do it anywhere.

Exercises For Making Learning Fun And Having Novel Experiences

Take a walk somewhere you always go except this time walk as though it is totally new. Pretend you are an anthropologist doing an ethnographic study, making it elusive and bewildering.

See what you notice that you didn’t before.

Ask yourself questions you might never ask about obvious things. Then just be silent while you walk and look without internal dialogue.

Slow down your gait or speed it up to notice what you have missed before. Smell the smells you may not have noticed.

Do the same thing with driving home or riding a bus. See if you can open your powers of observation to take in more than you ever realized was there before. Venture into new realms. Take a different route to work.

Open Your Powers Of Observation

Do something now, do anything now that’s different. It may seem uncomfortable at first, but realize you are interrupting patterns and causing your mind to be stretched in delightful ways.

Go back and enjoy a children’s book you once read. Go back and review.

Listen to the same CD over and over – only each time pay attention to a different instrument – how do they intermingle, compliment each other, support each other, what are they accomplishing together?

Try tasting your food in new ways. Tiny bits, savor each morsel, really chew it thirty-two times. Discover how you can delight your senses.

Pay Attention To Your Senses

Take a luxurious bath, uses different scents, candles. Anything that enlivens you and makes you feel better.

Read a novel you normally wouldn’t read. Get a biography of someone you never felt interested in. Talk to someone repulsive and take their point of view temporarily.

Step inside them and see if you can imagine how it would be that they would hold views contrary to your own. You don’t have to keep them! Just try them on to get a different perspective from your own.

Try Things You Have Never Done Before

Do something you would absolutely never do (keep it legal and safe!). Go beyond your own limits. Push yourself, but do so with a sense of adventure, joy, fun, harmony, health and well being.

Watch the same movie a dozen times. Each time approach it fresh and new. You will learn something. When I was younger in California working in the motion picture business, I would go to the same movie 4,5, 10 times.

First, I would just watch it. If I got hooked into it emotionally, I considered it a good picture. Then I would go back and watch for the way the director constructed it all.

Then I would see it again to concentrate only on the writing, then the acting, then the cinematography and production values. Each time, I came away with something I hadn’t noticed before.

With new intent, I noticed new things. By asking myself different questions, or causing my mind to look in a new direction I noticed more and more nuances than I could have ever imagined.

Repetition Is The Way You Learn And Create Habits

Think about it – two people go to the same movie and one loves it another hates it. Are they really talking about the movie? No. They are sharing with you what they paid attention to.

They are letting you know how their mind works.

No movie is universally good or bad, there are things about it one likes while another may not. Of course the more sophisticated knowledge someone has about what they are discussing, or the more nuances, perhaps the better to make assessment, but it is still only an opinion.

This is why recapturing the joy of learning, reading, listening to tapes, attending seminars, going for walks, playing with children, is so vital because it enriches an individual and enables one to pay attention to nuances.

Immerse yourself. If you learn just one new concept or idea – it can be monumental. You can become more creative… you can begin to open doors that you didn’t even know existed.

Capture The Joy Of Learning As A Child Does

Discover if – by trying some of these things – you can’t enliven yourself to all the opportunities around you you could be missing out on. Find out if you can do better in business.

Make change more dynamic for yourself and clients. Spice up your relationships with more passion and ecstasy, have more intimate times with your children.

Fun-loving, exciting people can change the world. With so much in the news that could discourage us, we need to become beacons, lights that glow in the night that show the rest of the world that we can be more alive, more in love, have greater well being and riches, use our brain power more efficiently and most importantly – live joyously.

Perhaps if we were all just a little more joyous even in the face of adversity, we will make the world a better more wondrous place.

Because the truth is, the world is already a wondrous place. The sad part is that too many people miss it. Recapture the awe struck wonder of a child in whatever you do. Bring this spirit to all of your learning and all of your endeavors and you will soar as never before.

You will reach untold heights when you break old patterns and habits that have prevented you from being open to new experience.

Every Moment Is New Every Moment Is An Opportunity

Too often we have belittled a learning or an experience with ‘Well that’s just X’ or we say ‘There is nothing new in that.’ Yet every moment is new, even an old hand me down cloth is new to someone.

Often times rare and priceless antiques were discovered by people who knew what to look for when others had considered it only junk.

Sometimes subtly and layers hides the core of its value and only to the eye of a trained observer will one begin to notice what is really going on, or what the real value is. To the child, it doesn’t matter. It is all wonderful even if it seems old to us.

My nephew Michael, when he was three, had completed watching Beauty and the Beast once a day, sometimes twice, since it came out on video. That was somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 – 70 times! He would watch it and delight every time he did.

Love Exploring Love Adventuring Love Seeking New Ways To Enjoy

Go out and live life and expect to have fun, expect to learn, and find out what you discover. Find out how you can have a ton of fun. See if you can put the pedal to the metal and really play.

Learn, incorporate and integrate the skills that you already have.

A very wise person once said, “you can light a million candles off just one”… but your candle has to be lit first. If you light up, if we light up all of our candles while we’re together here, then we can spread a conspiracy of ecstasy.

Commit to learning. It will keep you younger and healthier. Commit to learning. Learn to be happy. Learn to be positive. Learn to direct your mind. Learn to take control.

Life becomes so much more wonderful when you commit to learning how to use your mind to make your dreams come true.” Rex Sikes

Enjoy today in new ways!

What Should I Do When I Screw Up?

horizon footsteps in snow

“Have you ever let yourself down? You wanted to do one thing but did another? You made some progress in a given area only to fall back into old behaviors? Have you disappointed yourself? Has this ever happened to you?

A coaching client of mine came to me frustrated stating, ‘I struggle to stay positive. Sometimes I am able. Sometimes I succumb to less than glorious thoughts and feelings. I let myself down in my program. I am frustrated and feel bad. Sometimes things are great and sometimes all hell breaks loose. It shouldn’t. I disappoint myself. What to do?’

The following constituted my answer. Happily, by applying these insights this person got over many hurdles and has gone on to accomplish some really fantastic things in career and life.  You can do anything with the right mind set. Remember, all things work together for good!

Forgive yourself

Be gentle, be kind and be accepting. It is okay. All things are possible. You are on a journey. There is no expectation of perfection. Forgive yourself and continue on. When you fall get up.

The only thing that happened was that you fell. Don’t judge it. Don’t be critical because you fell. Be thankful you didn’t get very hurt. If you did nurture yourself and take care to heal.

If when you fell you hurt others. Get up. Own up. Apologize and make amends. Make good. Take responsibility. Look them in the eye and assure them it won’t happen again. Do your best to keep your promise. AND keep your promise!

None of what I am saying is about letting yourself off the hook if you did wrong. It is all about responsibility and taking care not to repeat. There are ways to do this that move you along further more swiftly and there are ways that keep you stuck and repeating mistakes.

I want to help you discover how you can more easily and readily change in the positive ways you desire.

Nothing Is Wrong In Falling Down

Nothing is wrong about failing to do what you hoped to as long as you stay with it. If you quit, if you throw in the towel and give up, then, yes, you failed. You stopped by your own choice.

If you are going to do that then forgive yourself. You made a decision. Accept it, own it, be responsible for your choices. It is entirely okay. That is what you decided. Give yourself some credit.

Do not blame or criticize yourself or others. If later, you decide to try again so be it. If not, so be it. Just accept that you have the power to decide. Decide to live without blame and criticism. Decide to live with love and light and life. Decide to celebrate everything.

Everyone Falls Down Sometime

So what? Get up and go on if that is what you chose to do. As long as you continue to assert yourself, as long as you attempt to continue you are learning and growing. You are a work in progress. Make many mistakes. That is fine. Attempt not to make the same mistakes more than once.

If you make the same one again and again keep working to change it. Realize you have some efforting to do and accept it. Focus on what you want instead of the mistake and gradually you will make it less and less. You need to develop some new habits and new ways.

Aim at what you want. Stop trying to avoid at what you don’t want. When you slip up for self and others do what has already been suggested. Make good. Don’t criticize yourself and move forward.

You are growing and evolving. Accept that wherever you are IS where you are. It is right where you should be given the choices you have made. All systems require correction. Your thermostat changes and corrects for temperature fluctuations. It gets feedback from environment and makes adjustments.

Use Changes As Feedback And Course Correct

So if you make a mistake, or you get off your chosen course you correct it. Don’t judge, correct and move forward. Don’t add insult to injury by criticizing yourself for being human. Being human means getting up and falling down and getting up again. Any negative commentary is unnecessary.

If you find yourself commenting in negative ways stop it when you become aware of it. Don’t go into a recursive loop of criticizing yourself for criticizing yourself. Many people do this and it is unfortunate. Stop blaming it does absolutely nothing of value.

Free yourself of this and go on. Love and accept everything about yourself and stop judging your progress. Don’t try to be further ahead. You will get there when you get there. Accept and continue to move forward. Comparisons can cause pain. There is no need to compare.

Step By Step You Get Closer To Your Destination

Bite by bite you get nearer to completing the meal. Drop by drop the tub is filled. You will get there. Don’t let mistakes, obstacles, challenges or influences bring you down. If they do, accept it and move on when ready. Ease up on yourself.

The sooner you keep going the easier it is. ‘Get back up on that horse!’ and keep on riding. Soon enough you will get the hang of it. We may always make mistakes, so what? We may always have difficulty, so what? Expect the best of yourself. Remain optimistic. Be positive and have faith. You can do it.

Accept That You Are Wonderful

Through it all we can learn to and have an incredible life. We can be filled with light and life and love. We can celebrate all and our joy can know no bounds. As you positively progress, as you become more aware, congratulate yourself for the positive changes.

Acknowledge, validate, celebrate and be thankful. Encouragement in the positive direction will help you move forward faster. Delight and live with more joy. Make this part of your purpose. Have fun.

It is all within each of us, the capacity to discover your true nature, your true power and your true gifts. You will find that you are absolutely worthy and deserving. No need to think otherwise. You are wonderful, accept it and enjoy it!” Rex Sikes

HEADS UP!!!  COMING VERY SOON –  Daily Inspiration And Gratitude’s new home.  A new URL, a new look and feel. All this and new content will be at new site. Some of you get this blog emailed to you,

Do You Keep Doing This Without Taking The Credit?

horizons horses

“Do you know what most people seem to miss? It is right there, right under their nose and yet they miss this critical piece. Somehow they just don’t realize, or if they do, they don’t own up to it.

Most people seem to miss that they have choice. They miss that they are making countless decisions day in and day out based on choices. The are making some very deliberate conscious choices and many subconscious, unconscious choices.

Meanwhile, they think they are a victim of circumstances. I’ll tell you what you can’t change. The weather. If it is going to rain it is likely it is going to rain. If it is going to snow it most likely will snow.

You can’t change it but you can chose how you will respond to it. You have a choice. You don’t have to like it or dislike it you can chose how to feel about it. It is completely up to you.

What is needed is for each of us to see and to realize that we are the person who is doing the choosing. You are determining what you put in your latte. You pick your route to school or work or how you get there. You choose what you have to eat.

You may say the donut called out to you and you could not resist but no one held your arms down and force fed you the donut. It only seemed that way. Right there is the key. It SEEMS like you don’t have choice but you actually do.

You live as if you don’t choose but you are choosing all along. IT JUST DOESN’T SEEM LIKE IT because you have gone about it without awareness.

Take stock of how many decisions you make each day. Write them down keep a tally. How many decisions do you make from hot or cold coffee to the large ones that influence you and others? Become acutely aware of each and every time you decide something.

Be tough on yourself don’t let any sneak by you. DO your best to notice each one. Become accustomed to the many decision you make. Take a few days and track all your decisions. Record all of your choices. Notice all the choice points in each day.

Discover that you are making decisions. You are deciding between alternatives. You are choosing. Recognize this and realize this. Take responsibility for the decisions you made. Claim your power do not give it away.

Do not give it to others, events or circumstances. Take responsibility (another decision). Decide to live as someone who chooses. Live as a victor, a champion. You are at the mercy of no one and no thing. Stop giving away your power.

Some will claim it isn’t them choosing it is their brain choosing for them. That somehow they don’t have control. That is a habit, a choice you made that you keep making over and over until you lost that distinction. Now you make it automatically.

You can learn to make new habits and make new decisions. Might it be tough? Sure it might. It might be easy. You decide. What is it going to be? Stop making excuses or blaming and start living from your power. If you don’t know where that is yet, decide to look for it.

Decide to keep looking until you find it and befriend it again. Decide to keep going no matter what until you get what you want. Decide to stop living in fear and failure and live in confidence and success.

You say you don’t know how. Well, decide to learn how! C’mon stop playing around and take charge of your life. No one and no thing is running your life but you. You may not have been very great at it up until now but you can be. Tomorrow is a new day.

Decide to learn to run your life better. Decide to fill your life with fun, passion, confidence and ecstasy. No one can live your life for you. Don’t you think it is time you start living your life for yourself? It is your decision. Make it today!” Rex Sikes

Do This To Stop Suffering & Start Living! Change Doesn’t Have To Be Hard

horizons green grass and grey green clouds

“Do you ever feel overwhelmed with too much information? Too many adds! Too much noise! Do you sometimes feel things are going by way too fast? It’s like we have become a fast food consumer of everything. Cheap ingredients and not very healthy. Does it seem like everything gets treated as, ‘Next’, move along?

Have you ever felt, because it is so fast, we don’t get the thoroughness or depth we need anymore?  So much is  just all surface and shallow? We need to explore some concepts deeper than they typically get treated, don’t you think?

This is the day and age of distraction by bombardment. There are so many competing distractions, advertisements, messages assaulting us. We go to read an article and a assaulted with endless pop-up messages. The news has talking heads and scrolls along the bottom distracting us from what is being said, or read or vice versa. Stock market reports may be littering the side.

Distractions Are Rampant

Everything is going on all at once. Doesn’t it  seem  as if someone has hurled pasta against the wall? Everything is there, some of it sticks some of it doesn’t. It is difficult for important messages to get through. Some social media limits who can be reached by you, but meanwhile, allows you to be reached by advertisers.

Few of the important messages get the signal attention or strength needed for us to recognize them and then act on. News cycles are fast. Rarely more than 24 hours. Every hour they need viewers for advertising dollars so constant updates are provided. More bangs and more whistles added  to keep you watching.

It is designed  to keep you hooked. Even if they are wrong, they don’t care, they will change it and move on. Tomorrow their will be another media managed crisis for the water cooler conversation and more gossip. Fast and over! Another new problem or celebrity in trouble or another disease to worry about. On and on it goes.

You Need To Focus

So you might wonder why I write similar things from day to day? There is a purpose. I write on a few themes. I re-visit these again and again. I attempt to provide some new angle or another way of considering the same information. It is on purpose!

People need to hear the same message multiple times before they actually hear it? Advertisers know how many times they need to repeatedly expose you to their product for brand awareness to take hold. Repetition is necessary for you to know a brand exists and consider it when purchasing.

People opt for the familiar. Even if they have never tried it if it feels familiar they are more likely to purchase. Advertisers work hard to create familiarity with you. They repeat the adds over and over. They know how many times you need to view an informercial before you are likely to pick up the phone and dial in.

Repetition Builds Ability And Habit

They know you need to get the same message again and again and again before you will act on it. Especially, in this day and age where so many messages are vying for your attention. For you to take action, as opposed to an impulse buy, you need to be conditioned to take action through repetition.

I want the really important, life changing messages, to get through to you.  I want to increase the signal strength needed for readers to recognize them and then act on. I know that repeated exposure is necessary for the person to get first an inkling, then a recognition and then ultimately a desire to act on the message. Then action!

You become what you think about. You have read this from me again and again. It is not my saying, I only use it. You become what you think about most during your day! It’s true! I want you to utilize what advertisers already know so you will put these life changing principles and practices to work for you.

You need to read or hear the same message or a similar message every day, multiple times a day so that eventually it takes root and grows. If every day you read the same message or a similar message your mind receives it again and again. You learn new things each time you re-read.

Develop Positive Habits

You have the possibility to actually understand and act on the message. By repeated exposure you learn and grow, Habits are formed by repetition. It is a simple process actually.

You learn best when you re-read, when you re-visit, when you re-expose your mind to the concepts.  You develop skills when you repeat the skills you want to learn. Through constant repeating a thought or behavior you make habitual. Repetition is the mother of skill.

Repetition is the mechanism by which skills and muscles are built. When you exercise, you may use reps (short for repetitions) and sets (groups of particular repetitions).  You do 4 sets of 10 reps adding weight to each set. Or 5 sets of 4 reps. You repeat the exercises over again adding challenge or more weight. Overtime muscle is built.

Expose Your Mind Again And Again To Positive Messages

Habits are formed by repetition through time. If you repeat the same thing over and over ultimately it becomes habit. If you consistently think positive thoughts you will develop the positive habit.

You can develop the thinking habits and the action habits of those who are wildly successful if you will only think and do what they do for a long enough period of time.  Then their positive, powerful, successful habits will be your life changing powerful, positive, successful habits.

It all begins in your mind. It begins with what you think about most. If you think you can or you think you can’t you are right about it. It is up to you. So…

I re-visit the themes to constantly provide your mind the important messages over and over so they take hold. You can assist yourself by reading and re-reading again and again the positive material in positive inspiring books, this blog, and articles.

Read, Listen, Act

You can put up inspirational posters and pictures and sayings that keep you focused on what you want in life. Listen again and again to motivational audios and watch DVD’s that help you feel your best and do your best.

Fill your mind up with positive messages every day multiple times a day. When it becomes habit and a lifestyle it becomes easier to make the changes you want to make. Your attitude determines you altitude. Your mindset is the precursor to any change you want to make and keep permanently.

You will stop suffering and start living powerfully when you consistently expose and fill your mind with powerful positive messages. You become what you think about. You become what you think about. You become what you think about most during the day.

Let that sink in. If you aren’t right now thinking positive powerful thoughts you are indeed already whatever you are thinking about. Your results and your life reflect that.  If you aren’t happy with where you are currently at begin today to do what is necessary to get what you want.

You Become What You Think About

If you will just start thinking positively your life will change. The easiest way to begin is to commit to reading some positive and inspiring material a little bit each day. The more you can do the better but if you can’t do at least a page.

Commit to reading each day for 30, 60 or 90 days. Habits take time to develop just as building muscles or losing weight does. Be patient  and persistent. As you read you will discover many things and what you can do. You will become more inspired and motivated. It is all good. Just do it!

Read then go back later and re-read. Then go back later and re-read again. Each time you will get new things from the material. The same is true about audio, video. You should re-listen, re-watch these materials. Space it out the repeats, a few days, a week or a few weeks and then return. It will really help you.

Each Small Positive Step Leads To Positive Change

How soon change occurs will be up to you. Read, listen, fill your mind. If you want to change you will have to change what you are doing and do different things. You will have to do the positive steps consistently to get where you want to get to.

How you think about it determines how you will go about it and for how long. Most people try to change the behavior without having addressed the mindset first, so they do not get very far. I have in my past, perhaps you have tried that way as well. It just does not work well. Hope doesn’t get you the power to make and keep the change.

If you want to change anything about yourself your mind and your self image must be the first thing that changes. Then everything else will follow. I encourage you each day in different and similar ways to affect the change that matters most. Change your mind and your life will change! Make it a habit!” Rex Sikes
